Ok, so...what is the deal with adventure time?

I never watched it much, just some random episodes here and there but for what i hear the show was good until season 3 and then it went to shit from season 4 onward.

What happened exactly? Is it worth to watch he show or will it be a incredible waste of time?

It was decent, although I felt like Finn and Jake were so fucking useless. Like in season 2, he would have actually fought but now he just gets destroyed in every fight of that arc

Both, I suppose. It can be fun, even interesting at times, but if it's not your thing it'll just be a waste of time, especially when it gets into more "mature" themes, as those can either be emphatic or on the nose.

To make a long story short, it gave a lot of power to the individual storyboards of each episode. The further the series went, the more they started exercising that power. The result was a show that has too many people in charge, all of whom have their own ideas that they want to put in the show. There's a lot of shit going on like storyboards setting up major plot points that nobody else on the staff wanted, the show having a shipping war with itself, and weird experimental art house episodes.

Honestly only liked it since reading Stoker's Dracula and Jojo Part 1 has given me a raging boner for anything related to classical vampires.
Was entertaining, but pretty meh for an origin story, and of course everyone that could've been interesting gets like 5 minutes of screentime.

In addition several of the people who gave the show a lot of its fun and soul are gone. Pendleton Ward bailed early on and people didn't even realize, R Sugar left to make Steven Universe... Its a lot of factors and a lot of it has to do with the writers and storyboarders forgetting its a kid show and instead writing stories for very sad 20 somethings. Its a mess.

This isn't me saying a kids show shouldn't do more mature shit, of course, but it's overwhelmingly depressing with tons of focus on things kids can't really get. Like existentialism or filling your life with sexy girls after a loss because you're sad.
