Fifty Shades of Grey was extremely successes and entertained a great number of the population, so going by the standards put in place in the post being replied to, it was good writing in the context of it being successful and enjoyable.

Not only did Miles upload a video on his personal youtube talking about the Hero's Journey, but if they skipped the journey it would require a decently lengthy timeskip.
It's quite a distance from Patch/Vale to Mistral and Haven.

They lose too many easy oppurtunities for drama and development by skipping the journey, and it's not as if the journey will take a lot of resources. Just lots of wilderness, snow, and Grimm. They already have camping assets from the Mountain Glenn trip.
