JGL said in the past that he wanted the movie to be much more cerebral than the typical comic book movie, with action being a tertiary focus at best.

Yesterday they announced that the writer of Final Destination 5 will write this movie.

JGL now says that the new studio doesn't agree with his opinions on what a Sandman movie could be.

It's fucking doomed. Get ready for over the top action blockbuster Sandman that neuters the source material. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen all over again.

Well no, he was working under WB before, and that apparently went pretty fine. But they made all of the Vertigo adaptations go to New Line (who is also making the Shazam movie), and apparently that just didn't gel with what JGL had in mind.
It's a shame though. Even if the movie wouldn't have been as good as the comic, I still would've liked to see it.

If he was going to be Dream, then this is perfect. What a horrible casting choice that would have been. However, with David Goyer involved i'm sure this will be suicide inducing regardless of who plays Dream.

Sandman really doesn't need a film anyway, a tv series would be far more suitable. There is no way that the Endless will be appropriately dealt with in a 2 hour movie. A film adaptation is going to suck no matter what, unless it was a tie-in or continuation of a tv series in a Twin Peaks sort of way so the characters and setting are already established.

I leaned towards that idea myself a bit before but the more i thought about it the less sense that made to me (unless of course that is explained in the books and i am misremembering). Maybe this is irrelevant but the idea of his accent seems more and more ridiculous to me the more i think about his eyes. Where his eyes should be there is a black void with stars where his pupils should be. The idea that a man with eyes like that would ever speak in, say, a yorkshire or New York accent seems ridiculous. Dream has existed before humanity and i think of him as somewhat monotone and cold in his voice regardless of who he is speaking to. What need does he have to change that?

Anyway, a charming, posh british accent seems all wrong for the character. Characters like Death, Desire, Delirium, Destruction are different, various accents make perfect sense for their characters. Characters like Dream and Destiny are completely different and i think that their voices should not have a noticeable geographical accent.

Two things:

1) Joseph. We've had issues with Joseph on previous projects. Some WB people lobbied to bring him back for Sandman, feeling that he deserved another chance. That was a mistake. Joseph is an ass, and we won't be working with him again.

2) As long as we're firing people, we are also firing the production company that we've been working with on the Sandman film. They will be replaced, and we hope to get this turned around before production starts.
