The Expendables 3 wasn't fun no matter how many old wrinkly sacks of bones they put there.

For fun action movies? The 80s were hands-down the best.

Fuck the Razzies in general. It is an "awards" show created by people that cannot create shit, in order to rip on those that do create.

Meme actor for a meme movie.
Perfect casting.
>>
>>80457354
Gladiador?
>>
>>80469884
I thought the Shi'ar rights were tied up with the X-Men at Fox? Wouldn't that preclude him? Shame really, Stallone would make a good Mohawk Superman.
>>
>>80457967
It's true that they did milk it to shit just on selling all the action heroes being together in one film.
>>
>>80457354
He'll play Groot's father, Root.
>>
>>80470055
Let me guess. Root's grandpa is called Oot.
>>
>>80457711
I never understood what's the problem with it. It's a quintessential buddy action flick, with two great leads.
>>
>>80459024
Razzies exclusively shit on easy targets. That's why 50 Shades of Grey won the most awards this year when there were tons of worse shit.
>>
>>80470071
Yeah, and his great-grandfather is called Ot.
>>
I always wanted him to play MAX Frank. I just can't imagine a Marvel role more suitable for him.
>>
>>80470113
And his great-great-grandfather?
>>
>>80470162
FOUND IT. James Gunn better be lurking in this thread
>>
>>80470096
Jack Palance is kind of wasted in it and the Bond film third act is pretty patchy and at odds with the more hard boiled earlier parts of the movie. Those are the only real problems with it. That and it expects you to take Sylvester Stallone seriously when he's playing an investment banker cop but that's part of its charm.
>>
>>80466279
Egon? That's where your brain went?
>>
>>80470096

The dialogue and situations are fucking insane, even for a buddy cop action movie. It really feels like a movie written and directed by a foreigner who's trying to make their idea of when an "American action film" is.

I love it, but it's a bizarre film. Remember the LAPD's Q Division that gives them a supercar for the third act? Remember when Kurt Russell is cross-dressing and some guy hits on him? Remember Brion James English/Australian accent that changes from line-to-line? Remember Jack Palance having a hall of mirrors for literally no reason at all?
>>
>>80470184
I think you meant "fund it"
>>
>>80470386
>Remember the LAPD's Q Division that gives them a supercar for the third act? Remember when Kurt Russell is cross-dressing and some guy hits on him?

HA! Tango and Cash's tha bomb, such a funny movie.
>you broke that jaw?

How can Stallone be brilliant in some things and fucking awful in others?
>>
>>80470700
Material
Directing
Effort
Anything really.
>>
>>80470700

Because sometimes he cares and sometimes he doesn't? This isn't exactly rocket science, not everyone can be Gary Oldman and give 100% even in pure shit.

>>80457605
He chose wisely to be part of the much more lucrative Fast and Furious franchise instead.
>>
>>80457619
that's perfect, need a drawfag to put Stallon's face on a planet
>>
>>80470700
He's great when he puts his heart out. When he truly has something to say, he's the best one to say it.

First Blood was great.
Rocky 1 was brilliant.
Rocky's 2 and 3 were great.
Rocky 4 was so bad it was good in retrospect. Great musical : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHdpyvayAcw
Rocky Balboa was a huge nostalgia piece that didn't just rely on the nostalgia and actually added to it.
Creed was great too.
The expendables are just him and his buddies having a giggle. It's like Adam Sandler's yearly vacations with Rob Schneider.

He just wears his heart on his sleeve, and had a bit fun in the 80's and 90's when he wa king of the world, and even the late 00's with the expendables. I like that he humbled in the past few years and delivered some really heartwarming stuff.
>>
I'm positive that Sly is a genius like in every sense of the world

Also, they've confirmed the villain. Kurt Russel is a red herring. Pic related.
>>
>>80470480
no he means found IT the other breed of Groot, these ones can speak any word but only one. You need a bunch of them together to make a sentence.
>>
>>80470832

Don't forget Copland, which isn't a great movie or anything but Stallone is excellent as maybe the least-Stallone character he's ever done.
>>
>>80470909
I've never watched it. I've been meaning to. I didn't put it because I can't really vouch for it, although I hear it's great.

Also I hear demolition man is a classic, but I think it falls within Rocky 4 type of classic.
>>
>>80470941
Damn three seashells
>>
>>80470941

It's a very traditional 90's neo-noir, not much of a movie but the cast is all excellent. If you haven't seen a billion movies of its ilk like I have you'll probably enjoy it a lot more.

>Demolition Man

What the fuck man, get on that ASAP. It's probably my favourite Stallone action movie.

>PHOENIXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

>>80457354
I thought we were in agreement that Starlords dad would be played by Kevin Bacon
>>
>>80470832
I like his Judge Dredd but I think it would have been better if the producers didn't held him
>>
>>80471042
That would be too on-the-nose I feel. James Gunn is much more of a trend-setter than a trend-follower. I think he cringes the most at the memes he creates that everyone follows. Sure, he uses a bunch of clichés, but he usually subverts them or uses them in a novel way.

That's why he posted that thing about executives that are failing to see why Deadpool was great. Lookt at his reactions to the Bendis's GotG and the tv-show. He abhors people who copy original things and try to pass them on as original.
>>
>He abhors people who copy original things and try to pass them on as original.

I mean considering how much of GotG felt like Diet Fifth Element that seems a little disingenuous.
>>
>>80471206
He definitely mixed it up a bit. The point is that he doesn't rely on references and straight homages and repetitions. He mixes well elements of other things to make his own thing. The proof of that is how much he changed the guardians themselves from the comics. Better or worse, he makes them his own thing, and goes through with it. I'd say Gamorra suffered the most from this, and Yondu benefited the most.

Even the ending of Guardians that people are always bringing up in /tv/ is a nice reversal of the huge battle at the end, and instead the heroes beat the villain with the literal power of dance and friendship, all of it established as character/plot details in the 1st and 2nd acts. It may come off as annoying to some, but it's definitely as original as it gets for stuff like this.
