While it's likely McFarland has the negatives (if not the original art, as was the case with Miracleman) he wouldn't legally be able to publish it without an agreement with the Tolkien estate.

They'd never actually get the rights to do Hobbit/LotR/Silmarillion off Chris Tolkien unless it was nothing other than a completely straight-up adaptation, probably with him overseeing it, and even that's still unlikely.

What's more likely is that they could get away with doing a LotR comic based on the movies (which is the same reasoning with what Shadows of Mordor was made, even though that game butchered Tolkien's lore horribly), but even then I doubt many DC writers honestly have that much affection for Tolkien's work anyhow, save unless they got Gaiman on it.

A new book is coming out that continues the Harry Potter story. Its not by Rowlin though and is based on a play. If she allowed this to happen, I could see comics in the hearish future.

What if Dark Horse made a Harry Potter comic?

If there were HP comics, they shouldn't be about Harry. Give me some Hogwarts founders comics, or ancient Incan wizards or whatever. I'd rather have one offs or short mini arcs set in different eras and places within the wizarding world
