But Ruby wasn't keeping them together in the first place, it was the arbitrary team structure.

I mean sure, Ruby's related to Yang and friends with Weiss, but we've almost never seen her interacting with Blake. Usually Yang and Weiss do that.

Honestly them splitting up with the fall of Beacon is natural.

Ruby and the remnants of team JNPR have a mission, so that's keeping them together.

Weiss's motivation was just to get far away from her Home and become a huntress. Blake wanted to escape the White Fang, but still help people. Yang just wanted thrills.

Now Weiss's father has brought her back to the place she wanted to escape from. Blake's on the run from a former friend who has promised to kill everyone she forms any bonds with. And Yang's missing her arm and traumatized because of it.

Continuing from the fighting game idea in the previous thread. Let us make the character types for the RWBY cast in this fighting game:

Actually, I kind of had a hunch Penny would get killed. It's sort of a trope to kill off the innocent, well-meaning character that isn't as deeply intwined with the plot as everyone else. This is mostly done to really sell a series because everyone (including the in-universe characters) will go "they did nothing wrong" and the death of an innocent is enough to push for our heroes to continue their fight, because it reminds them what they're supposed to do. Prevent shit like this from happening. Penny was unarguably the closest thing to a purely innocent and pure character in the series. She only had a loose grasp of the ongoing conflicts in Remnant, and her only motivations were to be friends with Ruby and fight a little in the tournament. Her death wasn't particularly obvious and there weren't any real flags in what inspired her (Pinnochio was a purely lighthearted story) but anyone familiar with things like this would have seen it coming.

I don't think Jaune is a time-travelling Ozpin. However, I can totally see it turning out that Jaune has a semblance very similar to if not identical to Ozpin's, this being the real reason he was allowed to attend Beacon, and Jaune becoming Ozpin's successor after the series conclusion

It's just that the way the scenaro puts it makes it seem like Jaune gets a boost from being reminded of his destiny rather than being reminded that destiny doesn't mean shit to him.
No even in the "I make my own destiny" but in a more "your idea of a pre-determined place for everybody makes me sick, I'll find my own way" kinda adds to his fake transcripts too.
