What seasons did the Simpsons get REALLY bad?

I always hear like around 10-12 but pic related is my favorite episode and from season 19.
>>
Season 10 is great though
>>
>>79731524
I-I like season 10.

>in 5 years people will call the golden era of simpsons 1-13 because there have been more zombie seasons than "golden"
>>
The objective mark of old simpsons/new simpsons is Phil Hartman getting murdered. Not only did that radically change the way the simpsons was written but it affected comedy for years afterwards.
>>
S10 up to the movie was a shell of it's former self but still tolerable
After the movie the writers realized most of their original fanbase was gone and decided to cram as many celebrity guest stars and modern pop culture references to please the millennial audience. Most of the episodes aired become horribly outdated in just a matter of years

So around Season 19
>>
Simpsons parodying the 90s doesn't work because Simpsons is one of the most important pieces of 90s pop culture.
>>
>>79731524
Outside /co/ I generally see the most hate being given to either 11 to 15 or 16 to 19.
>>
I liked the Scully era

Season 13 was when the series started to sour (I stopped watching after Season 16)
>>
>>79731524

Season 10. It was showing signs in season 9, but season 10 was the end for me.
>>
>>79731758
In 10 years they'll have a scene where Homer tells his family, "We're just like that cartoon family from the 90's, The Simpsons."
>>
>>79731524
Season 11 had a couple OK episodes. Anything past that though and the humor is just dead.
>>
>>79731949
That's because you're Mike Scully's nephew.
>>
>>79732038

This. Season 9 is the last DVD set I bought.

I tried to keep going but couldn't stand it. If I had to declare an absolute drop point, I say I consider Behind the Laughter, last ep of S11, as the series finale.
>>
>>79731758
>because Simpsons is one of the most important pieces of 90s pop culture.

It always feels wrong when the Simpsons use modern devices instead of 90's equivalent
>>
>>79731758
And that's why this is my least favorite episode. Well, least favorite that I've seen. There are entire seasons that I haven't seen.
>>
i'd say it started showing worrying signs of decay during season 10, and by 12 it was clearly irretrievably fucked to the core.
>>
After the movie is when it really beyond a shadow of a doubt became Zombie Simpsons.

>>79733368
>If I had to declare an absolute drop point, I say I consider Behind the Laughter, last ep of S11, as the series finale.

Meme episode.
>>
>>79733419
>Meme episode
What?
>>
The absolute peak of the Golden Era, in my personal opinion, is probably Seasons 2 through about 9.

10 through 14 or 15 is still watchable, at least for me, but the closer you get to 15 the harder and harder it becomes. Anything beyond that point is painful, unbearable trash. it's like watching your beloved childhood dog or cat dragging their half-dead sick disease-riddled body around because your mom doesn't have the heart to put the poor thing down.

The current look of the show (ugly, stiff, overly bright, hideous designs on newer characters and guest stars) the humour, the shameless parade of celebrities.....it's just a bloated corpse of its former self.

It's sad, /co/. It's so very very sad.
>>
>>79733449
BTL is really just a pretty average Zombie Simpsons episode with nothing remarkable about it, but some autists on /co/ started a meme that it was actually a good episode and they then pretend it was the series finale.
>>
Season 12 is truly horrible, possibly the worst pre-HD switch season.
>>
>>79731524
>pic related is my favorite episode
moshimoshi, beito desu.
>>
are we not ripping the shit into OP for his fav simpsons episode being this
the one that shits on a lot of really touching marge/homer relationship canon from the good seasons
i know talking about canon in a floating timeline cartoon is daft but man when's it going to end? when they decide to do another family flashback episode showing lisa's birth in 2008 or some shit?
some of the grunge jokes in the episode were decent, "guitar rock utilising nihilistic grunge energy" is an alright gag, but...
not muh simpsons, man

>>
>>79733505

It's a fine episode. It'd have been a decent stopping point.

Season 11 is pretty mediocre, 12 is grade-A crap though.

10-12 are the true decline.

>>79733368

Most people did. It's why season 17 was the last one to get a DVD release. They just weren't selling.
>>
>>79733755
>It's a fine episode

No it wasn't. It was largely shit and also based on a horribly dated late 90s pop culture reference.
>>
>>79733707

No because everyone here knows it's bait.

This was the episode that made me stop watching honestly. I was just watching the show for the sake of watching it. I was so happy to have have dropped it here.

Did the writers ever apologize on the DVD commentaries for unleashing this cancer on us since the sets should have gotten up to that episode.

How do we have this thread so often and nobody ever starts the thread with their own opinion or at least having read the previous 9001 threads?
>>
>>79733740
I agree. Milhouse deserves better than that.
>>
>>79731524
personally I think season 15 is when it happened, season 14 still had a couple good episodes, and not just cause of the two Marge fetish fuel episodes, even if I do really like those ones

>>79733498
my comrade of exquisite taste
>>
>>79733847
Don't think so.
>>
I thought Holidays of Future Past was supposed to be the series finale (the way they originally planned it)
>>
what are some modern Simpsons episodes that are on the level of the classics? To Surveil with Love comes to mind
>>
>>79734075
That episode wasn't that good.
>>
>>79734192
>what are some modern Simpsons episodes that are on the level of the classics?
None.
>>
The Book Job was the only one that really could pass for a Season 6 episode and that's likely because it used a guest writer.
>>
>>79734075
The future episodes all suck anyway except Lisa's Wedding and that one is just okay.
>>
>>79733498
>It's sad, /co/. It's so very very sad

The only people who watch Zombie Simpsons are like Boco and have congenital deformities or they're pedos who fap to Lisa.

>>
>>79735137
Yea. By his cunt of a wife.

On the evening of May 27, 1998, after returning home, Brynn started a "heated" argument [as women usually do] with her husband, who threatened to leave her if she started using drugs again, after which he then went to bed, a fatal mistake.

While Hartman slept, Brynn entered his bedroom shortly before 3 a.m. on May 28 with a .38 caliber handgun and fatally shot him twice in the head and once in his side. She was intoxicated and had recently taken cocaine.

The cunt drove to the home of her friend Ron Douglas and confessed to the killing, but he did not initially believe her because she was a pathological liar. The pair drove back to the house in separate cars, because Ron couldn't stand the sound of her shrill voice constantly bitching after which Brynn called another friend and confessed a second time. Upon seeing Hartman's body, Douglas called 911 at 6:20 a.m. Police subsequently arrived and escorted Douglas and the Hartmans' two children from the premises, by which time Brynn had locked herself in the bedroom and ann hiroed by shooting herself in the head.

Good riddance I say. Too bad she didn't shoot herself 4 hours earlier or ODed before she shot him. Phil Hartman was a hilarious and kind man whose only mistake was falling for a psycho cunt.

As for the Simpsons, I haven't stopped watching despite not truly enjoying it since 2002 or 3 I'd say. Even then I knew it either had to end or would become something awful. Sadly I knew how television worked and knew it would never end.

I only watch because it's something to watch. Just like FG.
>>
>>79735137

>>
>>79735137

It's a really depressing story too.

>On the evening of May 27, 1998, Brynn Hartman visited the Italian restaurant Buca di Beppo in Encino, California, with producer and writer Christine Zander, who said she was "in a good frame of mind." After returning to the couple's nearby home, Brynn started a "heated" argument with her husband, who threatened to leave her if she started using drugs again, after which he then went to bed. While Hartman slept, Brynn entered his bedroom shortly before 3 a.m. on May 28 with a .38 caliber handgun and fatally shot him twice in the head and once in his side. Why does /co/ get so butthurt about this incredibly minor character?
>>
Starting going downhill at around season 9, man. Saying 10 is way too generous.
>>
>>79735823
Yeah it was shitty giving her coke but it's not like he know that was going to happen. People like to direct blame onto Andy but it's more her fault than his.
>>
>>79735911
because she keeps aging up and Maggie doesn't
>>
>>79735957
Yeah,but he deserves the hate

>In early 2007, Dick approached Lovitz at a restaurant and said "I put the Phil Hartman hex on you - you're the next to die."[46] At the Laugh Factory, Lovitz demanded an apology from
Dick, who refused and accused the comic of blaming him for Hartman's death. Lovitz then smashed Dick's head into the bar.[46]
>>
>>79736064
I wish I could have seen this happen. Andy Dick definitely had it coming.
>>
>>79731721
> the millennial audience

> birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.
Why do people on 4chan hate millennials so much when 99% of people here are millennials ?
>>
Andy Dick is one weird sick fuck. He once got kicked out of an award show for porn movies. Since those things are practically a no-holds-barred orgy anyway, you'd have to be an exceptionally creepy individual to get ejected from it.

That's not the worst. The worst was having an admitted child rapist guest star on the show.
>>
>>79731717
Phil Hartman dying was a big part of it. Another was Simpsons capital leaving for or splitting time between Futurama. Most notably David X. Cohen and Matt Groening.

Season 10 was pretty meh due to resource splitting and by 11 the brain drain was obvious. Even 9 was hit or miss but good enough overall, especially with the inclusion of "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson".

While it never reached the peak of The Simpsons in my opinion, Futurama was the better show from the pilot until its demise. During Futurama's run, Simpsons ran at 33% steam or less.
>>
>>79735150
Netorare is a shit fetish, faggot.
>>
>>79736189
Also Mike Scully stayed as EP for four seasons while it had always been an unwritten rule that showrunners got two seasons max.
>>
>>79736169
eh I'd say having a direct hand in killing someone is worse than that(if only by a little)
>>
>>79736169
Yeh but at least the writers turned tail and cancelled the additional five appearances she was supposed to do. There's no evidence they ever apologized for Andy Dick.
>>
>>79733808
For some reason BTL got all sorts of critic hype and even an Emmy. I thought it was shit. It took 16 years but apparently I found the other guy who also thought it was shit.

Flat jokes and a dated, gimmicky hook that wasn't strong enough to work without strong accompanying material, which the episode didn't have. They needed much more than "We're making fun of VH-1!" Hell, VH-1 was barely still relevant at the time they made the episode.
>>
>>79736284
I assumed everyone thought it was meh, but some people came up with a retard-level /co/ meme that it was the unofficial series finale.
>>
>>79735150
Basically, Milhouse is a sweet, loving, incredibly naive husband who believes Lisa is his perfect little crush and it never crosses his mind that he'd be cucked.
>>
>>79736304
It kind of is the unofficial show finale but not because it's the last good episode or anything but because it was the shit cherry on top of 2-3 subpar seasons. At least that's my takeaway.

Regarding the hype over the episode I think by then viewers figured out that establishment critics were snowing them and were either out of touch and/or just had no idea how to evaluate television shows. They were raving about CSI and JAG at the time, too. LOL.
>>

The term Millennial is used to describe people born between 1981ish and 2000ish. It's what used to be called "Generation Y."

If you're born after 2000ish, you're NOT a Millennial. If you're born after 1981ish, you ARE a Millennial. The real point of the name is that it's referring to people who either came into young adulthood around the new millennium or were children at the turn of the century. You could actually argue that teens born around 97-99 don't qualify.

That's perhaps the most infuriating part. People call teenagers Millennials, but they actually came AFTER the Millennials. YOU are the Millennials. I'm 26, that means I'm a Millennial. It would be like someone born in 1957 complaining about how Baby Boomers are evil social security leeches and calling people Baby Boomers as a derogatory term when they are one themselves.
>>
>>79731717
>The objective mark of old simpsons/new simpsons is Phil Hartman getting murdered.
Ding ding ding. The Simpsons isn't the Simpsons without Troy McClure.
>>
>>79732038
>>79733368
>>79735922
I don't understand why people bash season 9. Sure, it was a new style, but the jokes came sharp and fast, the characterizations more competently done, and more of the gags hit the mark. For some reason, Mike Scully threw his baby off the fucking grand canyon in season 10.

Season 9 makes me feel good, like a comedy show should. Season 10, on the other hand, has a mediocre and shitty feel to it, the animation is fucking UGLY and stiff, and Homer has morphed into the worst character ever (unlike s9, where he was gradually changing but still lovable).

What happened? People will say it was Phil Hartman's death, but the episode "When you dish upon a star" was already made before he died, and that was one of the clear signs the show was dying.
