that's basically how the pre-PC era was. You could actually talk openly about shit. maybe your editor wouldn't like it, but in general if you had a message, you had a voice. shows like sanford and son and all in the family are actually heavily sanitized when they air now, and they're still legitimately edgier than anything that attempts 'edgy' today.
