The show is set between the Original and Prequel trilogies (closer to the originals). That's why it's called fucking REBELS.

I didn't care for Legacy, but at least it look dozens of Sith to defeat the Jedi, and even then, several of them managed to escape and eventually fight back. Budget is the reason Rebels looks way cheaper than The Clone Wars. Supposedly it was up to 1.5million per episode for TCW - all out of George's pocket because he basically gave no fucks. Kylo is not a bad character in theory, but what TFA presented was just shit.

No convincing reason why he's dark side despite his background. He's literally the grandson of a redeemed Sith, virtual Jedi royalty, maybe actual Alderaan royalty. Makes him look like a privileged prick. At least Anakin began as a slave.

No real evidence he's conflicted over the light side beyond angsting about it. Show us don't tell. He never did any good deeds only bad ones, and has been dark side for many years. Killed Luke's students, innocent civilians and all.

He's a brand new son coming out of nowhere and kills his long established dad in their one scene together. There is no gravitas. It worked with Vader and Kenobi because their film was the first one ever and they were merely teacher/student not father/son. Any audience emotion from Han's death was due to Han himself and what he meant to the viewers because Kylo is barely above fucking nothing at this point.

Then there's the more nitpicky things like Force freeze being overpowered, but for story issues these were critical.

Protectors of the Sith superweapon seen in the trailer. My guess is that they might be one of the very few canon representations of genuine Light Side users gone too far. Look at them, they're practically angelic, but in the trailer they talk about how the Dark Side is calling to Ezra and fight both Kanan and the Inquisitors.
