SU doesn't get a lot of credit for writing, but the Lapis episodes and the arc that follow did a fucking fantastic job of making Steven (and the audience) start to question the Crystal Gems' past and motives and even wonder whether Steven was on the right side.

This scene, the way the mood and tone suddenly do a complete 180 after he reveals the mirror to the Gems, the way Pearl recoils in horror, the way Garnet and Amethyst suddenly become super hostile, and Steven's panicked reactions, it's all done really well.
