I dunno, I actually like the idea of Clark acting like a normal fucking person when he's young. Superman's better written when he's more relaxed and casual, not a stiff scolding authority figure.

But then, the Superman story I've been waiting my whole life to see someone tell but no one ever has is seeing him go to actual fuckin' college and get a real journalism degree because you can't just walk into a major city paper with no resume or experience and become a news writer, that's retarded, and because personally I believe Clark wouldn't go "I need a job where I hear about news quickly" or "I want to be near Lois" like he is in most continuities, he'd actually CARE about investigative journalism as another avenue to fight crime and corruption.

Birthright almost did it, it starts with him fresh out of college and doing freelance reporting in foreign countries to build up his resume...but I want to see the stories where he makes the decision to pursue that, or see him on-campus, going to classes and living that life, as opposed to some homeless drifter or "living in the Fortress learning Krypton stuff from holo-Jor-El for like a whole decade" bullshit like in the movies.

I thought it was pretty good. Thanks for the storytime, OP. Took me a bit to realize that was Cheetah, but I liked it. It's nice to see Clark have some fun.

If I were to write that story I'd play it up as Clark realizing his limitations. Like, he's got telescopic x-ray vision and super hearing; he can know what's going on in other countries, but even with all his speed and strength he realizes can't be in two places at once. So he has to make choices and prioritize. There are social and political issues a really strong guy can't solve no matter how much muscle he throws at it. But his empathy and compassion mean that he wants those people he can't be for in the moment to get help and have their stories told too.

If this is in a continuity where Jonathan dies, I'd probably have it be because he has his heart attack while Clark is pulling people out of a burning dorm his first year in college or something.

So you'd have Clark not writing about Superman (unless a particular "case" really touched him.). Lois would have the Superman beat, she's writing about how he saved the city from a giant robot while Clark helps write the story of the kid that injured in a car accident at the same time because he couldn't be there for him.

So you have Clark being humanized with him processing his grief over not being able to do more and recognizing his limitations.

This is a good comic.

I thought the issue was fun. Superman didn't act edgy in this at all, he was just blowing off some steam and enjoying his vacation. What was he supposed to do meditate like a monk?

Him sleeping with Cheetah was weird, but the best part was definitely poisoned drunk Superman vs Deathstroke. All in all so far I give the mini series as a whole a 7.5/10 Better than I expected, fun but nothing extraordinary so far.
