Heartbroken Chewie makes me sad
>>
So has anyone here read the TFA screenplay?
>>
Oh joy, another thread filled with faggots desperately trying to look cool for hating TFA
>>
Just read Obi-Wan and Anakin #1. What did /swr/ think of it?
>>
did anyone post the short story Bait? it's not in the mega folder

TFA is a good film and very entertaining. That isn't to say it wasn't flawed as fuck. For example Rey is an undeniable Sue and Kylo gets diminished by poor writing choices in the final act.
Whatever the internal reasoning there was for it having what is going to be the central antagonist so easily dispatched in the final hour, especially after hyping him up the whole film, was not a good idea.
>>
>>78883834
;_;
>>
>>78884206
He's clearly going to get more and more capable as the trilogy goes on. They're actively building a "villain" here while the Originals sought to deconstruct theirs

Except it isn't? All the supposed flaws you people keep pointing out are just you nitpicking and bitching because it's not your precious EU.

How baseless can you get
>>
>>78884471
That's what they're trying to do, sure but Rey's complete and utter dominance narratively in both Kylo and non-Kylo spheres there's no punch. Regardless of how 'damaged' he was at the time she still won. How she one in particular is more in line with my other point about her being a sue and the writing being poor. Given that he could have forced pushed her off the cliff or into a tree like he did at the start of the fight at any time during it.

Whaaaaat?
>>
>>78884206
I'm fucking tired of Rey being called a Sue. If you were to switch her gender with Finn's nobody would be calling her a Marty Sue, I guarantee you. A Sue would be something like fucking Bella who starts a literal war because she can't decide which guy she wants to screw. She'd be a Sue of Poe and Finn and Kylo were all clearly romantically interested in her. A chick in the leading role of a story not specifically targeted at women a Sue does not make!
>>
>>78884664
>Except it isn't?
That isn't a question you off site colloquial writing shit bag.
Also yes it is flawed because PLENTY of people have had bones to pick with TFA. I mean shit I hadn't even held the fact that it's a complete carbon copy of NH with RoJ sprinkled in.
There are plenty of very real hardly defensible flaws, just because you're a fan boy doesn't make that a lie. It just makes you an idiot. I mean hell, I still really fucking liked the film, it's just really stupid in particular areas or at particular times.
>>
>>78884650
This is nice and all but at that point he had already brutally murdered an entire village of sentient beings, including the women and children.
>>
>>78884767

Your right because we call male marry sue's Mary sues anon
>>
>>78884792
Easily swept under the rug. Jedi do shady shit like that all the time, they've just got the political clout to have it forgotten.
>>
>It turns out that if Vader had taken off his armor, he would have had Super Strength and Super Speed. The emperor just told him it was life support.
>>
So what kinds of stories do you guys expect to see from the upcoming Rebels episodes? I'm personally hoping for the return of Maul. He kicked ass in the Clone Wars show and his fate is still up in the air.
>>
>>78884824
It's likely he was taken out during the Siege of Mandalore
>>
>>78884767
>Sue of Poe and Finn and Kylo were all clearly romantically interested in her.
Well Finn is, Poe never really meats her, and Kylo has some sort of interest in her, though probably not romantic. That's not to mention that Han Solo wants her as a surrogate daughter so bad he offers her a job.
>>
>>78884792
Nothing gets a Jedi harder than redemption.
>>
>>78884856
I hate how she comforted/broke the news to leia not chewie
>>
>>78884818
You're probably not referencing it but that RLM video about Vader's suit where they just read off of Wookipedia was amazing. One of their funnier videos.
>>
>>78884824
I'd rather not see him in Rebels. Not only would this be the second time he's re-appeared in a new era, but he has no connection to the main cast. Even his connection to Mandalore is weak.
>>
>>78884792
Considering the context, i can't say i wouldn't have done the same
>>
>>78884818
He actually has those things though. At least, he has Force Speed still anyway.

>>78884824
I'm just hoping Vader vs Ahsoka is everything I want and more. Filoni has a lot of high expectations on his shoulders. Two of the biggest characters. As far as he is concerned, he needs to try and make it the most emotional and intense fight in the franchise.
>>
>>78884514
Nice!

Give it a good flick to "activate" it.

Just dont be a fucking idiot and aim it at your brand new £350 laptop.

We never saw him get killed off. This is the creative team that took the fact that Luminara's death scene in Episode III as a reason to extend her life well beyond that point, along with Berris Offee. He's as good as alive as the writers ar concerned.
>>
>>78884911
Well then you're fucked up too.
>>
>>78884792
>Only remembering relatively good people for the bad things they've done
>>
>>78884824
>I'm personally hoping for the return of Maul.
I'm not, I like the guy but he deserves a novel series or some comic to better see his story and the resolution of it.
>>
>>78884962
What?
>>
>>78884953
Did Luminara have a death scene in RotS?
>>
>>78884907
He's god a beef against the empire since Paupatine killed his brother. This could be the chance to have a cool storyline about a morally ambiguous rebel cell lead by him, and a sith lord trying to pull Ezra under his influence who actually has a chance of getting Ezra's sympathy as they've both lost loved ones to the Empire.
>>
>>78884916
>I'm just hoping Vader vs Ahsoka is everything I want and more.
Oh, I SO want more interactions between them! I'm glad they could get James for the show. They were going to cut Vader out entirely if they couldn't.
>>
>>78884958
They Tourtured and killed his mom (possibly raped her) i don't blame him for burning that place to the ground
>>
>>78884936
>Random girl
>Implying Luke, Leia and Han don't know exactly who Rey is and just aren't telling her so she can find out for herself because ultimately, it's her life and she shouldn't let whatever happened in the past define whatever her future may be

It was kind of obvious in how Han addressed her throughout the film, especially when they reached Takodana
>>
>>78884935
Oh sorry to hear that anon
Yea I know to flick it
>>
>>78884989
Nope, it was cut. Feloni and his crew took this as an excuse to say, "She initially survived Order 66!" and do more with her. We learn about how she really died in Rebels.
>>
>>78884856
Feels like the "job offer" scene was a bit tacked on. Namely the reason she's so good with the Falcon, the reason he offers her a position in his crew (whatever that means after what happened to his last crew), was because he was going to die. The scene is something of a trojan "passing the torch" since Han was set to die and this establishes that the Falcon is in the hands of someone he approves of.

>>78884891
I like how Leia didn't need to be told since the Force passed it on in real time.

We may not know how trained Leia is but at least she is far more attuned than we've ever seen her. Outside the EU, of course.

>>
>>78885002
>This could be the chance to have a cool storyline about a morally ambiguous rebel cell lead by him

Please, no. Son of Dathomir assured that Maul literally had no where else to go, no one to turn to and little if any real powerbase

Let him either die a pathetic wretch who was kicked from paradise or disappear into the deepest crevice in the galaxy like Savage found him. He shouldn't be able to affect anything anymore
>>
>>78884935
Kylo Ren's lightsaber does hate computer terminals.
>>
>>78884824
I'm hoping for more of Berris Offee, and especially some interactions between her and Ahsoka. She was originally going to blow herself up, but the writers cut that scene because they wanted to do more with her character. Since she was expelled from the order and presumably jailed, she could have survived Order 66 and escaped during the chaos that was the rise of the Empire.
>>
>>78885066
She new Luke didn't blow up with deathsar.
>>
>>78885066
Yeah, I really wish they hadn't cut the scenes of Rey in the flight simulator.
>>
>>78885108
She's gotta be working with sheev right now. He had her in his grasp.
>>
>>78885116
That was just a feeling she had, albeit one with the Force. Nobody argued this. Han dying was a far more powerful moment on par with Obi-Wan sensing the death of Alderaan or Yoda sensing the death of the Jedi across the galaxy.
>>
>>78885085
>Indifferent shrug

It's not imposible
>>
>>78885153
I could imagine the Empire assuming that she'd be alined with the Dark Side because of the bombing, even though she insists what she did was for the Light, and her using this as a way to hinder them from within.

I really want a jaded and PTSD Barriss inquisitor or hand story where her final test is eliminating Ahsoka.

She still believes she's right but has her doubt about the Empire. Which is how Ahsoks gets to her in their first few encounters by agreeing with why she fights, but not who she fights for. Then enters Vader.

I'd like to see how the two would interact, and being rivals to get to Ahsoka first. The hole thing ends in lesbians

Whether they approved is irrelevant but likely. They're still culpable as long as they allowed it to happen and supported those who did.
The whole village being guilty isn't really at question, the way I see it, it's more whether execution was justified. Which given the emotional situation and heinous degree of the crime some would argue it was.

Now now. Qui-gon was a clever fella that doesn't get enough credit. He even attempted to guide Ani from the grave using the force ghosts he figured out. Hell he was even trying to get Anikan, Obi-wan and Yoda to sort their shit out to little avail.

Yoda had some moments of clarity before the fall but was too wrapped up in what he trusted to be true and focusing on solving the little things rather than taking in the whole picture.

And Plo is Plo.

Do you not understand what scripts are for? They need to convey to the cast and crew what sort of tone different things have. The "badass", although it might sound silly, serves a purpose. It tells everybody working on the scene, particularly Harrison Ford, how it's meant to look.

It's an intelligent double saber design that actually works, because you weild it one handed for the most part and those times you don't, it has a handy pair of handles. >>
>>78887095
Who is "them" in your situation? The script isn't for the audience. It's for the people actually making the movie. And yes, the people making the movie won't know the tone of one particular action unless you tell them. They could guess and get it right or come up with their own interpretation. But if you want them to do it how you want than you put it in the script.

This is pretty basic and obvious stuff.

They do, but having "HE HATES HIM" and "THIS PART IS BADASS" is just lazy. Even Lucas's frequent shorthand of "they fight" instead of describing an action scene is less idiotic than this.
>>
>>78887079
>He ended up just being a pretty standard "command my minions from my throne" villain.

I don't mind that so much as long as there is a decent twist down the line. Like it turns out that the man behind the curtain is the true Wizard of Oz. What would be the biggest twist? Snoke is actually Jar Jar? Ghost Yoda? Luke? Sixes? Boba Fett? The ghost of the entire EU? The Vong? Emperor Palpatine? Luuke? Ewoks? Jabba the Hutt? Jabba the Hutt's son? Luuuke? Uncle Owen having faked his death in ANH? Lando?

No, I'm betting the biggest possible twist is Snoke is actually Han Solo. Faked his death so he could rule the galaxy as Father and Son because Leia was a strict wife and mother and wouldn't let them go to Nar Shadda to get the boy his first prostitute on that holiest of days when Ben turned Space Legal.

Lazy how? Scripts aren't literature, they're blueprints. When it comes to descriptions in scripts the rules are basically the opposite. You want to make it obvious and succinct. The actors need to know what they're doing and how their character feels.

>Even Lucas's frequent shorthand of "they fight" instead of describing an action scene is less idiotic than this.

Rey is just a Sue who was somehow taught how to fly will living in scrap and working for food stamps and can learn adept light saber techniques via deep breathing exercise while other jedi actually had to learn and develop styles and technique. Complete false equivalence.
Annakin also didn't become force master tier in a day. He trained over time and developed unlike Rey who leaned it all without training, without having seen it else where, under enemy duress and in the space of 24 hours.

Anakin is a Sue in the first film, no doubt.

His piloting skills stem from his podracing skills, no doubt. The victory itself is a Sueish stretch though.

Its only in the second film that we see Anakin as a flawed learner so I admit its harsh to lambast Rey immediately but it doesn't look too promising for her.
>>
>>78890775
>none of which could ever translate to [flying]
Mechanical knowledge means jack. Also she was pulling Tight turns, squeezing through tunnels and pulling mid air egine stalls and recovery to the extent that she could aim the jammed gun at a ship that hadn't even exited the wreck yet with the enitrety of the ship while in free fall, without motor control

>>78890823
No he wasn't. Sue doesn't mean stupidly powerful, there's more to it. Ani wasn't even the real focus. Ep one is about Obi and Qui-gon dealing with Ani, much less Ani himself. His character justifies his feats and doesn't pointlessly dote on them or make him flawless.
Ani learns to wield the force like every other jedi. He learns to pilot through hard work and practice and we see him progress in both fields. It's harder to gauge his saber skill but there's nothing outrageous to imply he didn't learn that as normal too. While he was special he still did it like normal jedi. Strong with the force =/= Jedi master

I can accept this.

>she implies she's flown at least something before.
This doesn't excuse the astonishing shit she pulls off. She literally flies a freighter like its fighter and, IMO that's bullshit. I can accept Han pulling it off to a lesser degree in an asteroid belt due to being a Smuggler who has likely made his trade by losing faster ships.

To make Rey's abilities believable we have to accept she's just BETTER than Han, Luke and Obi-Wan and that doesn't make for a fun addition to a saga.

>a person who has been shown using a weapon to defend herself against three attackers is proficient in the use of a similar weapon

It's pedantics to some degree but I'd argue being good at painting doesn't make me a good pencil illustrator. Also, who on Earth was she fighting with a staff to make her capable of standing up to a trained, force using lightsaber wielder? A FORCE USER WHO PERFORMED FEATS FAR BEYOND ANYTHING WE'D EVER SEEN BEFORE?

THIS NIGGA FROZE LIGHT IN MID AIR!

> Girl goes along with a creature that can kill her with a swipe of his paw to return an item she found to a man who could kill her with his mind.

This was just bad writing, you can't deny. That final scene was comical. They found Luke off the coast of Scotland and he was greeted by a Girl who feels she's never met him before as opposed to his sister and many friends.

I guess that means it's the piano of weapons and that now she can use anything. It's not like the muscles, balance and technique of a sword is different and a light saber different again.

Rey did one force pull, picking up a lightsaber that was beckoning to her.

Kylo Ren was heavily wounded and incompletely trained.

>she channels the Force
Every single other jedi has learned how to use a light saber separately. It's not just channelling the force just like how flying isn't just channelling the force. It takes skill practice and training. Force helps sure, who doesn't want to have heightened senses and shit? Force users are player characters. Their skills are higer than NPCs and they level faster and above normal people. Rey on the other hand just fucking does it. Can't use a light saber, just channel the force. Never seen a jedi mind trick before, just use it perfectly. Never used the force before, out skill the dark jedi. She's the girl friend at the table who doesn't play and people just say 'fuck you won't learn, we'll play the game around you. How do I force pull? Do you have it? Um... You can start learning it next session if you spend 'x' on 'y'. Ah but which ones? Fuck it you learn Force Pull, now just roll the dice'

This nigga had midichlorians and got fucked over in early fights he had even when the odds were in his favor(2v1 vs Count Dooku). The interest in him as a character was him falling to the dark side and fucking over, not being a hero and saving the day. >>
>>78892062
See that's the difference between a Mary Sue and a good character. A good character is one you can like, while a Mary Sue is one who annoys you.

Which means you cannot objectively call a character a Mary Sue. it all comes down to opinion.
>>
>>78892029
Her actor is shit and she's a Sue but she didn't ruin the film for me. I feel like if the supporting cast weren't there Rey and Finn couldn't hold my interest but as it stood things were pretty fun. Poe and Hux were nice. Kylo was predictable but other than his gimping at the hands of Rey at the end was supremely entertaining.
In short: she's fine but one of the weakest characters in the film. I was more interested in little cantina Yoda, her past and how she came to have the light saber than Rey.
The only weaker character (that was supposed to be something other than an extra) was Phasma.
>>
>>78892029

She's cute which is counteracted by how bad her actress is.

So really she's unmemorable. I mean that with utter honesty, man.

See >>78888300
This says it all for me, really. The actress and/or pacing from Abrams failed to communicate that this was actually a deep moment for her character.

So, in short, she's cute but hollow and unmemorable.

Being a man her being cute alone me say yes, she's likeable.
>>
>>78892085

We aren't aware of every power those two had. It could be pointed out, however, that Yoda held FORCE LIGHTING in the air. Twice. Once in a vision. He also absorbed Dooku's (apparently lesser) lightning into himself, and even tossed it back.

Also Vader reflected Han's shots on Bespin with just his extended hand.

And then of course there is the Force Speed ability shown briefly by Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan when they first fought Droideka. The effect looked so stupid they never displayed it again on film, though The Wook claims it was shown in TCWs.

Actually as has already been pointed out she is quite good at close quarters combat. We know she can use a staff, but that doesn't mean it's the limit of what she's used in the past.

However what you are saying is still patently false. Our first experience with an untrained Force Sensitive and a lightsaber is Luke who, though it was required his mind be tricked into opening up to the Force, was able to pull off blind deflection. That isn't just hitting someone else's blade but anticipating where shots will be and moving his blade ahead of time to stop them.

People seem to forget or downplay this because it was against a remote and the shots wouldn't have done more than pinch. Nevertheless it is direct evidence of the Force alone being used to enhance the abilities of a mere farm boy, someone who didn't even have Rey's survival skills. And also people, for some reason, forget that Rey was actually running for most of her duel and only managed to defeat Kylo Ren after we saw her connect with the Force in a moment of calm/peace, something Maz talked to her about, and which we'd seen Yoda tell Luke so very long ago.

Hell, she didn't even managed the mind trick "perfectly" as you say but needed to try it three times. Thank Kylo Ren for showing her how to connect with minds.

Midi-Chlorian count isn't a measure of the Force within a person and wouldn't cause Vegeta to scream, "It's over 9000!"

It was to show that Anakin wasn't normal. If the Force was truly his daddy then you'd expect a Vergence in the Force to have an abnormally high Midi-Chlorian count, right? That seemed to be what Qui-Gon thought.

She did all this in a day and even when Luke had YODA'S FUCKING TRAINING, Vader still whooped his ass. Vader was a shell of his former self no matter which way you cut it. Furthermore, look at this point had months of battle field experience and had only managed to barely pull the lightsaber to himself with the only thing holding it back being snow.

Rey on the other hand? She ripped it from a trained force users grasp.

There really is no amount of mental summersaulting you can do to make Rey's rise in power NOT bullshit.

Why assume that? It merely states that there are more expressions of the Force than we routinely see. Talzin could use it to manifest objects, turn people invisible, had her own green chain lightning WITH blaster deflecting shield. An older witch could raise armies of undead.

We don't know exactly what Kylo Ren's training is, however we do know it's incomplete but he's also a Skywalker which makes feats of retard level Force strength when emotional a given. He's also a conflicted mess with control issues.
>>
>>78892836
>blind deflection
Tentatively in a controlled situation under no danger. Are you for real?

He was senseing the shots. Any old mook can hold something straight were something else will be, especially given the speed and intensity. All the force did was allow him to know not suddenly understand saber patterns and movements he didn't download it from the Force Matrix.

Regardless of how she rallies Kylo is a trained dark jedi at the VERY least with 'complete' sith training on hold. He's a master force user and has had at least a few years of active combat with his light saber vs Rey a girl who never used the force until that day, a sword she's never used and no knowledge of saber combat.

What Kylo did wasn't a mind trick and thus irrelevant. Further if he had it would have made more sense. Instead never having seen one she does it perfectly. Now I don't mean 100% effectively but for all intents and purposes she knew the steps like clockwork. Must be that force matrix eh?
>>
>>78892968
>Tentatively in a controlled situation under no danger. Are you for real?
Yep, You're using the wrong Certain Point of View, anon. If that is what you can do when under no danger, imagine what you can do when you're backed into a corner and have nothing else to lose.

We know that the Force has been calling out to her to take up the sword. You're surprised the Force was on her side in that fight?
>>
>>78893008
>wrong point of view
No.
In almost all circumstances untrained people are worse in live situations. Professionals might flourish when backed into a corner drawing on all they know in it's holistic entirety this is not the case of amateurs. At best the untrained will have a burst of sensation or strength neither of which compensate for skill but rather facilitate it. A lack of skill is and always will be a lack of skill.

That's just bullshit.

The OT made way more use of the force as a kind of fate/god/undefined thing than the prequels, and it was way better written.

They even flat out say in A New Hope, when Obi Wan explains the force, that it can control your actions.

Trying to make it less mystical and more psuedo-scientific and regimented is where the shitty writing (midichlorians, virgin births via midichlorians, we're losing the ability to use the force") and other kinds of bullshit showed up.

One of the things I actually admire about the Star Wars movies is there's none of that stupidity that crops up sometimes in superhero comics and the like about not killing. Rey, Luke and Anakin all have moments where they either kill opposing forces (like in an actual war, you know). Anakin killing the sandpeople was revenge for his mom. He went on to be a mostly good-guy hero through the three years of the Clone Wars and was redeemable up until the moment he bent his knee to Sidious.

>>
>>78895325
it's mostly just the revealing plot points that, in the moment of the movie, have tremendous emotional and narrative impact and tell the story in the way the maker envisioned.

That being said, knowing Han is going to die doesn't do all that much to the movie. As I was watching it I guessed he'd eat it simply because he'd clearly taken up the mentor roll in the hero's journey. Might as well have been played by Sean Bean at that point.

>Tentatively in a controlled situation under no danger. Are you for real?
It's the same basic technique Luke used against the Death Star under combat conditions and with the lives of his friends and the hope for a free galaxy. Luke shut down his targeting computer, effectively blinding himself, so that his mind was left with only the Force to guide him. It was a moment of faith for him. Why couldn't the same be true for Rey when she innately tapped into the Force to defeat a wounded and not-fully trained Dark Sider?

Rey is still untrained. The fact that she found Luke suggests this will be corrected by the next film. The script used the words "raw" and "innate" which means untrained, natural Force affinity which we've seen before countless times.

And if you hadn't noticed Kylo Ren is explicitly shown as being no Vader. He's a wannabe who it turns out wasn't fully trained, in addition to his other problems.

>>
>>78896885
For me, it's because Luke had many people helping him out and covering for him during the trench run. The other pilots helped him, Han saved Luke from getting killed by Vader and allowed him to try hitting the hole with no more interference from enemy fighters, and Ben was with him in his mind to help guide him. And it was Luke's only time he actually meaningfully used the force in the movie.
>>
>>78896524
Well you could say that about literally any scene in TCW with somebody who shows up later in ROTS or later movies, couldn't you?
>>
>>78896885
Because Luke was already a great pilot from flying his T-16, that was his only skill

You could possibly excuse Rey's victory by having fighting being her only skill, but she's also a great pilot, but without the practice Luke had. And excusing her win against a wounded (we don't see his wound effect him at all, he doesn't hobble around or struggle to lift his sword) and not fully trained (as opposed to her- non trained, even still it's a nonsense excuse, he's clearly well trained, If you box for a year I'm no master boxer but you'd still beat up someone who's never done any fighting before)

Baby Ventress manifested push to kill a pirate which is why her Jedi Master took her in - and then he died leaving her to fend for herself.

Ezra has manifested jump, one blast of push, minor precognition, and when backed into a corner desperate reached out with the Force, tapped very close to the Dark Side, and summoned a giant beast. That last was after he had barely any training in linking minds, at first unable to do it. The point is that when emotional even the untrained/barely trained can acquire massive bursts of the Force.

>Disney and Lucasfilm are inching closer to finding their young Han Solo for the upcoming untitled “Star Wars” spinoff.

>Sources tell Variety that after seeing thousands of actors, execs have cut the list down to about a dozen actors with Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, “Brooklyn” star Emory Cohen and “Everybody Wants Some” actor Blake Jenner among the names making the cut.

>NDAs and test deals are still being worked out, but producer Kathleen Kennedy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will begin testing the new group with a decision expected in the next couple of weeks.

>The film does not shoot until next January, but sources close to the situation say the reason for such an early decision has more to do with another “Star Wars” film currently shooting, rather than the untitled “Han Solo” pic. While insiders were unable to confirm, the new Solo could have a small cameo in “Rogue One: A Star Wars” before appearing in his own standalone pic.

>“Rogue One” still has a month of shooting to go and is supposed to be set between “Episode III” and “Episode IV,” making this new Han Solo age appropriate for an appearance in the film. Disney and Marvel used the same strategy for their new Spider-Man by casting Tom Holland early in order for him to cameo in “Captain America: Civil War” before appearing in his own film.

>With the exception of Eastwood, who’s 29, Disney and Lucasfilm seem to be zeroing in on actors between the ages of 20 to 25. The studios tested actors as young as 17 to as old as 34.

It wasn't his flying skills or ability to shoot womp rats that he used against the Death Star, though. It was specifically a Use the Force™ moment.

Luke was a farm boy whose greatest problems were not being able to go to Tosche Station to pick up his power converters. Rey was a survivor on her own since a kid, fending for herself and doing parkour and spelunking in old derelicts for useful parts, some of which she relied on to furnish/keep her shelter up and running.

As for Kylo Ren's wounds, what the hell, anon. We see him slamming his hand into his wound several times as he's leaving copious blood splashes just in their vicinity. He's either one tough sonnova bitch (sorry Leia) and/or using some of his Force powers to keep his wounds in check. Even then Kylo Ren isn't just not fully trained, he's demonstrated terrible self-control. Nice power bursts, of course, but Rey found her calm and beat his ass. Kylo Ren doesn't have that kind of peace within him. He's fighting himself as much as everyone else. The movie shows this at several points.

But you don't have the Force. The Force does crazy shit. You can do anything with it, up to and including cheating death itself, as long as the plot allows it. And since this movie was copying ANH instead of ESB nobody was losing a hand in a duel.

The Force imparts information. For instance in the last season of TCWs the Dagobah Cave actually TOLD Yoda the name Sidious, the first time they knew the true identity of their foe.

It's the Force, son. It doesn't have to explain shit.

He also trained with Obi-Wan Kenobi for a short time, he was at least shown some sort of training by a Jedi Master, and a very powerful one at that.
>>
>>78897355
He was already a great pilot, the force enhanced this skill, under the guidance of Obi Wan.

If they wanted it to look like the wound was negatively affecting his ability to fight, he should have been wincing, hobbling around, struggling to lift his sword and clutching his side, instead he punches it like it's making him stronger and fights as though nothing is wrong. If you watched just the fight by itself from when he first swings his sword, you would have no idea he was injured.

He's not fully trained no, but he is trained, and obviously trained well. If you took two people, teach one to box for even a year and leave the other and make them fight, the trained one would win easily, Kylo has been trained for what, like a decade? And managed to kill a school of jedi, we can see he's well trained too from his uses of the force and his fight with Finn, it's poorly choreographed too, it looks like he just stops trying when Rey closes her eyes.
>>
>>78897070
Didn't the others help Rey? They came back for her, thereby giving her her fondest wish - someone cared enough to return to her. They brought her the sword. She watched Han die and then saw Finn horribly wounded which caused her to finally reach out for the sword, a sword that had already been calling to her. Even then she had to run most of the fight. And when she finally finds her calm spot and faces Ren with the Force? Maz told her to do that after her first vision. How to quiet her mind and find the Force within herself.
>>
>>78890823
If you actually watch the film again and pay attention a lot of stuff is explained in passing dialogue. Also the visual dictionary is a goldmine.

Rey knows how to fly because her speeder is powerful enough to fly at low altitudes. She basically taught herself. Plus working as a scavenger has given her knowledge about ships and components.
>>
>>78897505
They showed the blood, they showed him stumbling in the snow and repeated pounding his fist into his own side. In essence they showed you exactly what you needed to know about how wounded he was, which for some reason you're still not acknowledging because they didn't do it exactly the way you would have done it. Well too bad, JJ didn't do that but still showed how wounded Kylo Ren was.

Not really. She had already escaped when Han and Finn found her. Them bringing her the sword doesn't matter much when she uses the lightsaber and force by herself. And even if she did have legitimate reasons to win every time, it still makes her pretty boring.

WHAT? When does this film take place? I assumed it was VERY shortyly before ANH since the crew is supposedly stealing the Death Star plans.

How would they hand-wave Han Solo looking so radically different in the span of a few years?
>>
>>78897717
This is what is so stupid about the complaints. We know the Force lets you do amazing things, even without training. We knew far ahead of time that there would have to be new people with the Force and they'd use the Force to save the day. Either they already had training or they'd do something awesome to prove reveal how strong they are in the Force, whatever.

It actually happened and people are acting not only surprised but horrified. Worse they're freaking out because a girl dared to defeat Han Solo's weirdly emo son who probably sleeps with a dakimakura of Vader. A guy who when loses his control twice and starts taking it out on the furniture. A guy who the moment he met said girl with the Force and she turned his own power back at him he freaked out and ran to Daddy Snoke.

Saying that, "But Luke didn't do this without training!" is a poor excuse. Just because Luke couldn't do something doesn't mean nobody can, and in fact we've seen others without training showing more powers than he had in ANH. No offense to Hamill but Luke was a whiny bitch in ANH. The excuse that Luke couldn't beat Vader is even worse because Kylo Ren is no Vader. Vader would have beat Rey's ass with no problem just as he did with Ezra.
>>
>>78897887
I know. Which is why I said I guess I'm okay with how the characters have ended up after all this time. At the same time, I can't abide by its being a copy paste of A New Hope's general structure, even if it is probably the best way to "reboot" the franchise and introduce a newer generation to how Star Wars "was" way back then. For us who can easily pop the Original Trilogy into our DVD/Blu Ray players and have known them for much longer already, it's still a disappointment

>You can't unless your taught to, and even then, someone more experienced than you would still beat you, this is what you see in the movies, the cartoon isn't relevant, and even then, of course a master of 900 years would have great control over it
Not according to TFA.

Saying the cartoon doesn't count and then refusing to accept what the movie showed you is pretty silly.
>>
>>78897931
When ever in the movies does anyone do anything amazing without training?

It's got nothing to do with the fact that she's a girl, everyone has argued with you without mentioning gender, you can't just win arguments by implying people are bigoted

Luke was supposed to be a whiny bitch, that's why he's a good character, he's an annoying naive loser who gets his ass kicked constantly, he has to grow into being a hero instead of just being one immediately

And the comparison to beating Vader isn't about power, it's about how the story is structured, it isn't satisfying for a villain to be beaten immediately by an unskilled loser
>>
>>78897560
>the cartoon isn't relevant
Do you not understand the concept of "everything and anything in Disney's canon can be relevant to new works coming out"
>>
>>78897985
I agreed the movie was bad, but had some things which were good, how stupid are you that you can't understand that?

>>
>>78898071
>When ever in the movies does anyone do anything amazing without training?
Luke did some amazing things in ANH even if Han wanted to pass it off as luck and Widdle Ani was the bestest pod racer who defeated an entire droid army single-handedly.

The movies give you very few data points on the untrained. Even Ahsoka (starting with the 2008 theatrical film) and the younglings in the TV series are hard to measure because the Jedi in that era began their indoctrination when they were very young. Ezra and Ventress showed abilities as already stated in the thread.

It's entirely consistent with the other movies, dingus. The Force does whatever the fuck it wants and heroes can use it to pull victories out of their asses. Even in defeat, such as in ESB, the Force can still be used to save the hero to ensure they can fight another day.
>>
>>78898270
Why isn't there a Yoda edit of this yet?
>>
>>78898218
Anakin was a good podracer because of a combination of the force giving him fast reflexes/precognition and having failed more times than others tried, before he wins in phantom menace, we are told he has never actually managed to even finish a race despite trying many times

Luke did one amazing thing in a new hope, and it was something he has done a million times before, flying a ship and shooting a 2m target in a canyon
>>
>>78898270
You're talking completely out your ass, when is the force ever used like you describe?

Are you talking about when Luke calls out to Leia? How is that the same at all?

Leia, who hasn't had any training, has shown no prior Force abilities and has no reason to believe she has any, suddenly senses Luke and can home in on his location.

If that's not the Force manifesting a victory in defeat then what is to you?
>>
>>78898445
Apparently not everyone thinks it's wrong. Imagine that!

And then of course there's the numerous other threads talking about Luke, Leia, Anakin and numerous other characters showing powers without training or with very little.
>>
>>78898458
How about Luke suddenly being able to fly sideways and into a little porthole?
>>
>>78898458
Lol, because Luke is reaching out to her, do people in TFA need to be taught how to receive Kylo's mind reading? She isn't doing anything, Luke is
>>
>>78898499
Are you serious? Luke doesn't do that, he gets sucked in
>>
>>78898291
That...is a very good question.
>>
>>78898514
Kylo Ren reached out to her with the Force and she, being strong in the Force, was able to use that connection against him and later, after several tries, made a connection of her own against a single Stormtrooper. Afterwards she didn't try to just mind trick her way out of the base so it was apparently a desperate one-off that paid off.

Luke was told to use the Force by ghost Obi-Wan's voice. Rey, once again desperate, used what Maz told her to do and found the Force within herself. The Force had previously been calling out to Rey to take up the sword and bust some shit and, behold, once she accepts the Force into her life she busts some shit up.

Why are you acting surprised?
>>
>>78898357
>You're talking completely out your ass, when is the force ever used like you describe?
When Luke makes without the aid of a targeting computer a shot that a veteran fighter pilot couldn't make *with* a targeting computer?
>>
>>78898629
Luke didn't really use the Force at all. He shut down his targetting computer, grabbed a marker and then drew a womp rat on his cockpit window. He used this as his target to line up the shot.

This is why Obi-Wan, bemused, refused to talk to him until ESB. I can't really blame him.
>>
>>78898629
Anakin too in TPM when he grabs the flight stick and just shoots a torpedo into the exact spot to blow up the command ship. Presumably we aren't supposed to believe this was an accident that saved the day so the Force guiding him is all we have left.

Always bugged me that Artoo could have just told him to shoot that spot after using the ships sensors. Instead we just have no explanation, it just happens.
>>
>>78898673
>and this time the womp rat is a stationary target that never moves away from his fighter with possum-like terror.
Death Star was easy mode.
>>
>>78898820

Every other scene in Phantom Menace needs some exposition.
>>
>>78898607
You just completely changed what we were talking about, I hadn't said anything about the mind trick in TFA

It doesn't make any sense though, raw force talent, in the other movies, is pretty meaningless without the tuition to use it, she shouldn't be able to beat someone in a mental battle when she didn't even know mental battles existed, and it makes no sense that since she is now aware they exist and can be used to extract information, she can now mind control people

That's not an accurate comparison, it's more like if with the help of Obi Wan he beat Vader in a dog fight, as for the rest of it, you've just completely disregarded what was said previously and started fresh instead of trying to refute anything, it's sad how you feel so strongly about this garbage you'll do whatever you can to defend it, were your hopes so high you convinced yourself it met them rather than feel dissapointed or was this the first star wars movie you watched?

>>78898629
You mean the same shot he's made a million times back home in his T-16? The movie goes out of it's way to make it really clear this is something he can already do, the force helps him do it
>>
>>78898839
every other scene in Phantom Menace IS exposition.
>>
>>78898607
my only issue with the mind trick is that Kylo's interrogation spell doesn't seem that much like it, and Rey used the Mind Trick as we knew and loved it from the last 6 movies. But we never got a good indication of her knowing that was even possible. I would've just like to have had a small moment in her flashback seeing a Jedi mind trick someone so she could later use that as a chekhov's gun to free herself, or just have Han or Leia anecdote to her that the mind trick was a cool thing Jedi could do.
>>
>>78898673
>Use the womp rat, Luke

So this is the real Force awakening. Luke, understanding the destructive power of the womp rat, chose a life of seclusion. Rey, reaching back to the stories she heard as a kid, was able to defeat Kylo by imagining fighting a giant womp rat in his place. Now, as the Dark side rises once again, she has to convince Luke to come back from his exile, as the womp rat is the only weapon that can destroy Snoke once and for all.
>>
>>78898820
Yeah, the exact spot, and 10 other spots, it was a random accident after he crashed in the ships hanger and started shooting at random.

Besides the point, proving TFA isn't shit and it's characters aren't shit, because it's the same as a shit movie with shit characters, it's like you already know it's shit
>>
>>78898855
Ah yes, every day on Tatooine Luke shot a torpedo straight down a port from an X-wing moving at high speed perpendicular to the port itself. Unless there's some EU asspull saying that proton torpedo's just decide to go straight down when they feel like it, that can only really be the force.
>>
>>78898855
And people are only allowed to talk about what you mention first? Come on, anon, you're getting desperate.

You mentioned Luke reaching out to Leia, I mentioned Kylo Ren reaching out to Rey. The former was an act of desperation that paid off. The later was a violent intrusion that Rey learned to use against her tormentor and later in an act of desperation that paid off.

They aren't all that dissimilar.

Other than that "raw force talent" is incredibly rare in the other movies. There just aren't that many untrained Force users in the movie. Among them Anakin had the Force as his daddy and was in turn the daddy of Luke. Leia was barely scratching the surface but already was trusting in her insights with the Force.

And then there is Rey whose backstory is still a mystery to us.
>>
>>78898912
>we never got a good indication of her knowing that was even possible.

5 minutes ago she didn't know the Jedi are real, then she not only enters Kylo's mind, but manipulates someone else's.

>>78899037
Actually Kylo Ren entered her's first. He created the connection, she just learned she could use it too. Then after several tries she managed to create a connection on her own. Maybe Daniel Craig-trooper has an exceptionally weak will.

No, it's like if now I just ignored what you said and went

How did Rey manage to fly the millenium falcoln?

Luke reaches out to Leia, all she does is receive his message, Rey does something similar, but now she knows immediately how to combat it, she extrapolates on it and uses something which seems far more advanced afterwards, just because she had something vaguely similar happen to her

Anakin, Luke and Leia all have incredible raw talent, how does that manifest itself? It doesn't, they aren't that special

Nothing about Rey's backstory could justify it, do you think her being trained as a 4 year old would really mean anything?
>>
>>78899141
He saw Obi-Wan do it in ANH, fanboyed out because it was a cool trick, and then applied it to the weak-minded in RotJ.

I wasn't at all upset that Rey was capable of it, just that she knew it was even a thing. If I were her, I don't know if I would have ever guessed I could manipulate stormtroopers.

And if you cannot see how Luke, Leia, and Anakin don't end up revealing how they are special then god damn you should actually watch the Star Wars movies before you post in a Star Wars thread.
>>
>>78899194
See, this is, I think where people fall apart with the force.

I think people see the various things Jedi do as being magic tricks that they need to learn, rather than just the person willing something to be so. It's not that you have to learn to do the mind trick, it's that you have to learn that your own willpower can make things happen.

Rey and Kylo Ren's little force battle with her in the chair could easily be enough for it to click with Rey "If I think this hard enough things can happen."

Honestly, the biggest change I'd make for it would be for Rey's first attempt at the mind trick being more of a question, before she really asserts herself and it works.
>>
>>78899194
Pretty sure in the comics Luke learns of Force pull thanks to Vader using it to rip the lightsaber out of his hand.
>>
>>78899037
>5 minutes ago she didn't know the Jedi are real
She clearly knows of the Jedi, having thought Luke Skywalker to have been a myth up until Han confirmed it all. It's not unlikely that she would perform as she did(Jedi mind trick especially) on the basis of hearsay and rumor. We just don't know if her mind had already been opened up to the Force prior to all this. If it had, then her actions are excusable. If not, then it opens up a can of worms in that your ability to actively use the Force can only be taught. Granted, it's possible that in interrogating her with the Force, Kylo may have inadvertently opened her mind to the Force.

there are a lot of questions
>>
>>78895903
Shouldn't Leia look younger? She's 15 during the time of Rebels
>>
>>78899303

Star Destroyers can move faster than most normal ships in hyperspace. Didn't the Falcon not have a hyperdrive at that time? Even a little singular-pilot ship can out-speed it with hyperspace.
>>
>>78899241
What are you talking about? I didn't say you ignored me, I said you ignored my point

She tells Lando to turn back, she doesn't sense his location, they left without him, she recieves a message and is now aware he is alive, they were lucky to find him

Anakin becomes a great jedi with his talent, but not the greatest, which is very apparent when Obi Wan beats him, Luke becomes a decent jedi but only beats Vader because Vader lets him, Leia doesn't do anything with her potential because she doesn't even know she has it, you don't see her pulling mind tricks out of her ass when Luke tells her she has the same power as him
>>
>>78899352
How much time has passed since ep1?
>>
>>78899326
The Star Destroyers had working hyperdrives, as you saw just after they dumped their garbage. It's likely that Boba pursued the Falcon up until he could deduce where they were going, jumped to lightspeed himself and directed the Empire towards Bespin.
>>
>>78899362
But all the ships went fuck everywhere. How did Boba Fett know where they were going until they were practically at their destination? He doesn't know anything about how much fuel they have so he doesn't know their range. He'd have to follow them until he could be sure they were going to Bespin. And if they were close enough to Bespin to know that that was where the Falcon was going, wouldn't Han and them notice a Star Destroyer coming out of hyper space?

In fact, how does a ship that is tailing another ship, arrive at the other ships destination first?
>>
Is there any other live action SW porn with aliens?
>>
>>78899395
>She tells Lando to turn back, she doesn't sense his location
Back IS the location, anon. She had no reason to believe Luke was there. He calls out for help and she not only sensed it but knew he was back at Cloud City.

If you missed something that obvious that explains how you've missed every other significant post in this thread that points out the exceptional things done by Luke and Anakin.
>>
>>78899260
I agree with that change. It would've been cuter for her to be more nervous about it before getting serious and making daniel craig her mind bitch.

Anyway, I'm definitely of the "Star Wars has never had internal consistency and the Force has always just been a plot device that does whatever it wants" camp, but it just feels to me like something that deserved its own chekhov's gun moment earlier in the film. It's such a specific thing to use the Force for, I just would have preferred a more thorough example of it for Rey to learn from. Would make more sense within the film.
>>
>>78899449
We don't know how many planets with actual people on them are in the Anoat sector, other than Bespin and Hoth, latter losing it's population earlier in the movie. It's also likely that Boba knows of Lando and his relation with Han, and that Lando works at Cloud City. He might have just put 2 and 2 together to guess where the Falcon was headed.
>>
>>78899449
>In fact, how does a ship that is tailing another ship, arrive at the other ships destination first?

Once Boba was certain of where they were going, he likely jumped to lightspeed to get ahead of them
>>
>>78899449
hyperspace. The Falcon is traveling at sublight from one system to another. Real world physics aside, it'll take a damn long time. As long as Boba can reasonably deduce they're going to Bespin, all he has to do is text Vader that the Falcon just entered Bespin's star system and the Empire can just jump there hours or even days before the Falcon even sees the gas giant. And if Boba jumps past the Falcon to get to Bespin first because the Slave I has a hyperdrive as well, there's not much of a way the Falcon could tell it was anything more than space traffic.
>>
>>78899524
That and once he had the Falcon's directional heading it should be obvious where their destination was. Han had no reason to fly some kind of zig zagging or meandering course to evade pursuit he believed they had lost.
>>
>>78899500
She knows Luke is in cloud city, she sees him there as he arrives and tries to rescue them. She shouts to him how it's a trap, she knows Vader is waiting for him, it's not a stretch that she thinks Vader has captured him or killed him. She hears his call, and knows he must be in cloud city, she doesn't sense where he is, it wouldn't make sense for him to be anywhere else.
>>
>>78899569
why are the sensors on the Falcon so shitty that not only can they not pick up a ship flying almost literally right behind them, but even when that same ship goes into lightspeed?
