From "Rey's Survival Guide":

>Dinner is the same thing every night. Survival rations. The only variety is whether I get Imperial rations or the New Republic kind. Both are pretty much the same-the New Republic rations taste a bit better but the Imperial stuff is less likely to be stale after all these years.

>Unkar trades rations for the gear scavengers salvage from the Graveyard. That's it. No credits, no barter-except for food.

>I can't tell you how many thousands of times I've eaten this stuff (written next to a drawing of a bowl of some kind of mushy food)

Doesn't sound very tasty.

You could do this with literally anything. In fact, I'm going to prove a point using morrowind.
>Kylo is the new Dagoth ur
>Rey is the new Nerevarine
>Poe is the new Mehra Milo
>Finn is the new Caius cosades
>Leia is the new Orcish guild Mage who tells you about Nerevarine prophesies then she directed you to Vivec city.
>Luke is the new Vivec
>Han is the new Chieftain of the Urshilaku camp
>Hux is the new Dagoth Vemynal
>Phasma is the new Dagoth Gares
>Snoke is the new Hircine
>Starkiller base is the new akulakhan
I could go on.
The similarities are largely due to the heroes journey. Mix that with the visual homages and carryovers, intentional or referential, and you have the reason TFA is seen as a ripoff. It's not, but it's seen that way because the heroes journey is all encompassing.
If this doesn't show how empty of a complaint this is, I don't know what possibly could.

>falcon gets caught in a tractor beam
And this just the first half anon.
You can't just say, oh it's a heroes journey like so many other stories because it's the exact same heroes journey to outrage degree.

somewhat doubting anyone said this. Didn't Leia have a blaster in the originals?

I didn't like Ray in this film because I thought her actor was poorly cast. She's obviously meant to be a tough as shit woman, but the actor feels like she can't convincingly pull that off like carrie fisher could as leia in the originals.

Yeah whereas Boyega was able to drop the accent and perfectly get into character it felt like Ridley was just an amateur being herself and reading lines. But whatever Hamill wasn't a good actor either.
>>

Cheers m8.
>>
>>78678360
>The thing he knew how to defend herself using a staff,so its obvious she would know how to use itsomehow

That's such a fucking STUPID argument and I hate seeing it brought up every time.

1) It's stupid that she was trying to use a lightsaber as a staff and stab with it because any retard trained in one weapon style could pick up ANY OTHER WEAPON and know it feels different and has to be used differently. UNTRAINED civilians would know not to swing a staff around like a sword and vice versa. It's common sense and you can just feel the difference in your hand. It's as stupid as being trained with a mace and then picking up a dagger and trying to bludgeon the enemy with it.

2) Staff experience in no way carries over to swordplay. Even different swords don't carry over. Someone who's an expert with a claymore is not going to know how to fence.
>>
>>78678360
>Maz tells her to chill out and feel the force
>copies moves she saw Ren do
I don't see what the big deal is. Aren't you basically only limited in using the force by your imagination and internal noise? She solves both those problems and has one or two moments of force brilliance.
>>
>>78678395
Agreed. Boyega was the only main character who's actor I liked. I liked Harrison ford a lot, but not enough to get over the fact of old he was to be doing the same space adventure stuff.

>But whatever Hamill wasn't a good actor either.
I think he suited the originals well. Probably not a good actor, but I think he does high energy over the top roles well. Also found him a bit jarring in this film. He was living on this rock in the middle of an ocean for years, with nothing to eat but moss, and somehow he's still fat and dumpy looking.

It's because people who say she is aren't using the EXACT definition and people who say is isn't are using the EXACT definition.

What the people saying she IS actually mean is Rey is a little too perfect and it's kind of an annoying characteristic for the protagonist.

The people who say she isn't are just saying SHE'S NOT FLAWLESS LOOK SHE WANTS TO GO BACK HOME THAT'S A FLAW.

Both sides are acting pretty retarded. In the end Rey was just a pretty weak and underdeveloped character who was outshined by Boyega who's character was more interesting, better written and better acted.

I'm always curious why some groups of people always seem to feel that you have to make this shit into feminist or anti-feminist shit. I wonder what goes on in their minds that someone saying "this is a poorly done character" equals "fuckin' girls should stay in the kitchen".

>>78679093
Luke, like his father, whined constantly, and many times when something proved difficult simply gave up saying it was impossible until he was shown he was wrong. He was an angry and impatient individual, but was also very loyal to his friends, and extremely selfless when things came to a head.

This exactly. I hate living in an age where an opinion backed with honest and legitimate criticism is misconstrued as closet discrimination.

The movie was fun. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. Rey is a Mary Sue.

All three things are true.
>>
>>78679876
I don't know if I agree with Mary Sue, but she was certainly in desperate need of more depth and character building.

But then again Luke didn't get much of that until ESB too, so at least it's a common problem in Star Wars, and movies in general. Doesn't excuse it though.

OK so before this turns into a Mary sue hate thread, how about we say our theories about what episode 8 will be about:

>Finn wakes up with a new Spine and arm (Due to nerve damage from the shoulder injury)
>Decides to look for his family before he was taken and Poe comes along to help
>Gugu Mbatha-Raw was cast for the movie, so she's probably Finn's sister or half-sister
>My name is Mandy the Mandalorian and we're badasses BTW, have some cool armor

Movie will alternate between Jedi/Sith training and Finn/Poe's bro time adventures.

Luke and Snoke will give crash course lessons on nu canon Jedi/Sith history.

Rey will leave training early in frustration and face Kylo again before she's ready. Luke will save her and drop the "I'am your father" bomb on her.

It's also why they take "size matters not" to mean Jedi can lift anything of any size at any time, or that Vader's talk about the Death Star being insignificant next to the Force means Jedi and Sith can gain planet-destroying superpowers.

Curiously everyone seems to have gotten Ben's "more powerful than you can possibly imagine" line, which is really baffling when they get that one but not Vader's "insignificant" line since they both tie into the same thing.

I plan to pace it better some time, add in text.

I've been tempted to 're-tell' Episode 7 with Commodore 64 graphics + text... this was just a rough trial. Or even a fan game using cutscenes this style, produced in an old side-scroller set up...

No, but he's way too old and his health isn't what it used to be. This isn't a huge change anyway, the last movie Baker was actually in was AOTC. He's spot on. Think about it for a moment: Does anyone now still care how 'ludicrously catastrophic' nukes? The planetbuster is half a century old and displayed as mostly obsolete in the movie.

Never mind that the new republic fleet didn't know about Starkiller base, you dweeb. They consider the First Order to be a scattered remnant with no real resources at best.
>>
>>78685541

>>
>>78685715
>Does anyone now still care how 'ludicrously catastrophic' nukes?
We would if Washington DC was suddenly wiped out by one. Instead everyone acts as if Bumfuck, Idaho got bombed.
>>
>>78685715
What does that mean? What are you even saying?

What I'm saying is that destroying the Republic's government and fleet was completely fucking retarded, especially because it doesn't seem to bother anyone at all within the movie itself. It happens and then nobody cares about it.

This is so retarded it needs to be checked for missing chromosomes. This is bigger than Alderaan being blowing up in A New Hope, this is like if somehow the Rebellion had gotten a hold of a Death-Star-like weapon and blown up Coruscant with the Emperor on it. And we never hear about it again!
>>
>>78685715
Nobody's blaming the New Republic for not being concerned about a weapon they didn't know existed until it bitchslapped them. The Resistance kind of acts like this isn't that big a deal though.
>>
>>78684343

Theres this guy with British accent in red squadron during the attack on Starkiller base.. reminds me alot of Wedge.

maybe related?
>>
>>78685666
to be fair we dont know the fallout of that was
its entirely possible that Hosnian Prime is a mostly diplomatic post and most of the senate lives off planet and the New Republic is sure to have out of system information back ups. at wort as far as government involved they have to reorganize the senate and elect new senators. though that no small feat.
on top of that the Fisrt Order just made themselves target number one as far as the New Republic is concerned not to mention allied planets and neutral systems who dont want a worse Empire.
>>
>>78685891
And it's spot on. Do we care about genocide of people we don't know? Of course not, except on an ideological level. It won't impact us personally, because we don't personally know these people. It won't even impact us if we do and happen not to LIKE them.

Expecting any kind of immediate reaction beyond a resistence press release that is no doubt in the making is ludicrous. Killing your army's morale after destroying that base by cancelling the victory celebration is just stupid. No one's going to buy that. People don't tick like that.

The movie stops before we deal with the fallout properly and that is the correct decision. The fallout is unnecessary to the story and would contradict the established tone of such superweapons being a relic of the past to the point their tech is now widely known enough to extrapolate how to destroy them. This is a fifty year old weapon from an age of warfare fifty years ago. If you harp on and on about the victims, not only do you come off as incredulous, you undermine that fairly obvious point of the movie.
>>
>>78685944
I could see it very easily splintering the Republic, since many planets might lose faith in them since they couldn't even protect their capital system, which could cause those planets to align with the First Order in fear of their safety.
>>
>>78686000
I see this as well. All the more damning because they could not protect against a threat decades old. The easy manner in which Starkiller base was dealt with may very well be a setup to emphasise just how much the ostrich politics and voter pandering to the war weary fucked the republic.
>>
>>78685968
>This is a fifty year old weapon from an age of warfare fifty years ago
Except they make a huge deal about the fact that it's bigger and more dangerous. Or try to anyway.
>>
>>78686185
Do they? The rebels don't seem overtly concerned. The First Order's propaganda machine hypes it up, but the rebels think they have a shot with 20 odd ships and precious little else. They aren't underestimating the danger (thank god), but it quite deliberately is set up as an exercise in routine warfare and not as the big bad.
>>

>>
>>78686185

Bullfucking shit they do. The first fucking thing Han does is go HURR ANOTHER DEATH STAR? HOW DO WE BLOW IT UP <<SNARK Y SMILE>>
>>
>>78685968
>It won't impact us personally, because we don't personally know these people
It doesn't impact us because it barely impacts the story. Alderaan's destruction has more impact on the story in ANH than just "oh no billions of people we never saw suddenly died." Its destruction gives us a chance to empathize with Leia more. More to the point, the Death Star is absolutely central to the story in ANH since it's the reason the film's events are set in motion. The attack on it isn't important because it destroyed a planet we never care about, it's important because the entire movie has been leading up to this.

Here though, there's a massacre that nobody cares about and the Starkiller Base's destruction is seen as something that they should probably do, but there's no urgency and no connection. None of the characters have any stake in the massacre or any real concern in destroying Starkiller Base. They say they do, we're given the token gasps when they discuss the weapon's size and power, but the story never gives us a reason to really care. The story itself has no actual use for Starkiller Base except to give the cast something to fight in the third act, and otherwise has no real ties to the story.
>>
>>78686259
>>78686260
Honestly, I don't know why every single person in that room didn't bust up laughing when it was revealed they build a third deathstar.
>>
>>78686272
And that's where you're wrong. There have been two superweapons in the past. Starkiller base handles a different take on them, in the future, where these weapons have become a normal, routine exercise for a military force to take on.

There is also a very memorable quote from Vader that, I think, underlines the point of TFA very well:

>The power to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the force.

That is TFA in a nutshell.
>>
>>78686256
>>78686259
>>78686260
Hence why I said "try to." The script wants us to think Starkiller Base is big and dangerous, it just doesn't come across because the characters act like this is just another mission. The idea that this is intentionally meant to be boring because it's old technology falls flat, the failure to sell Starkiller Base as a legitimate threat and an integral part of the story is a genuine failure, not some bizarre meta commentary on obsolete weaponry. The movie clearly wants us to be impressed and think this thing is scary and important, it just fails to actually do that.
>>
>>78686319
Script and interpretation are seldom 1:1. Most big movie productions do make changes in production without changing the script. The tone and delivery of the dialogue for me is too deliberate in diminishing the importance of Starkiller base on the rebel side for me to see its portrayal as ineffective as accidential.
>>
>>78686376
If it's accidental, it's mediocre filmmaking. If it's intentional, it's downright stupid.
>>
>>78686399
I think it's intentional. SW has always mirrored its time's current political state. Planetkillers are the nuke anology, obviously. In the new flick, we have the concept of war by proxy and war by insurgent played up instead, with nukes being outdated.

I was rewatching TCW season 5, staring with The Gathering. I was curious to see again how they handle kyber crystals "calling" Jedi. Curious the episode presents several ways in which a crystals presence can manifest itself to the youngling, and apparently only the youngling. Bit hard to say since Jedi Temples can be really weird places, so strong in the Force that reality gets a little screwy. The locations themselves seem to test individuals, along with the potential of the Jedi themselves to set up their trials ahead of time.

Curious too, Professor Huyang mentions that crystals must be attuned with the Force as well before they can be used in Lightsabers, but sadly this process occurs offscreen. Also apparently building sabers is as much by schematic as it is just using the Force as your guide and the saber somehow tells you how to build it. The Force is capable of imparting knowledge, apparently.

Anyway I decided to keep watching. Interestingly during the episode when Sheev decides to deal with Maul personally. Sidious Force chokes two Mandos with a wave of his hand and then proceeds to ignore then as they choke to death. At the time I recall people being impressed he can maintain separate focus like that on two targets at the same time while going about his business, but it's possible it's like Kylo Ren's ability to "immobilize" bolts which hang in the air until the effect is lost. In other words there does seem to be a type of "fire and forget" Force grip. Not really conclusive, I'll admit, but watching the scene it is like once they are choking Sheev loses all interest in them.
>>
>>78686513
Threepio. Against his will, I will add. He lost his arm while shoving it up a delicate location but fortunately Leia managed to pass it before the end of the movie and he got it back. Crying the entire time, too.

Now you know why he was so happy Han was back. He was hoping his nights of torture were over.

Well she's a Mandalorian so something of their natural passions dwells within her even as a pacifist, like the way she tends to carry a gun. Thus she always demands that she be allowed to wear the Mandaloran Royal Pegging Harness.

I watched the series for the first time in the lead up to the new movie, and would text a friend of mine that had told me he'd seen it every now and again to point out episodes I quite liked.

When I mentioned this arc he said he really didn't like it, it was 'too weird.' I'm pretty sure he's autistic though and some people, particularly Star Wars fans, just can't into metaphor. When my friends and I watched the prequels recently and picked them apart for laughs, his criticisms were always the 'in world' sort of "Well, why didn't they just do X?" rather than picking apart the actual flaws storytelling.

Same reason we have power level babies complaining about Rey.

You'd honestly have to go beyond the stereotypical ideas of 'magic' and take the force as an analogy for divine will, but not in a Christian sense. It's originally based on eastern concepts, where such 'will' is vague, contradictary and constantly in flux, much like life itself. Wether the visions are something caused by Kenobi (who is speaking), by the semi-sentient kyber crystal (like in TCW) or by the force itself (like in the dagobah swamp tree) is unclear and vague. Pick whichever you prefer.

After watching TFA for the third time, I really can't deny it, Rey is a Mary Sue

Now it's not for why you'd think.

Her beating the stuffing out of Kylo Ren at the end doesn't make her a sue, nor does her being good at piloting the Falcon.

What makes Rey a Mary Sue is how the film portrays her with other characters.

First, and this can not be stated unequivocally enough - she is liked instantly by pretty much every "good" character. Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, BB8, Finn, and Maz ALL are into her, the MOMENT they see her.

While Finn can be given the less than pure excuse of wanting to bang her, the other characters like Rey seemingly out of obligation. They can sense she's going to do great things. It really is like a fanfiction, where a teenage girl will have popular characters from the canon material shill their OC.

With Luke, it didn't go that way. Han Solo mocked him, Leia emasculated him, Chewbacca was outright aggressive towards him, and even Obi-Wan was a bit leary of Luke's naivetee.

In TFA, everyone loves Rey, and they love her at first sight. Even Kylo Ren seems like a tsundere towards her, offering to train her and spazzing out in her presence.

But putting how established characters love her instantly aside, she also is obnoxious in her exploits.

Cool moments don't have to be a zero sum game. Rey being a Mary Sue doesn't have to come at the expense of Finn and Han Solo doing something cool

BUT IN TFA, IT DOES!

Take her piloting the Millenium Falcon with Finn on Jakku. Isn't it convenient that the gun jam up, rendering Finn useless, and making Rey have to do a loop de loop just to position the falcon just right to shoot the pursuing tie-fighter? Or when they're being chased by the monsters on the frieghter, isn't it funny how the one who gets snatched is Finn, and Rey has to save the day?

Finally, on the Falcon, when they need to repair the Hyperdrive, isn't it interesting how Rey fixes it, not Han Solo? It's just way too fucking much.
>>
>>78689468
I would still fug her
>>
>>78689468
>Take her piloting the Millenium Falcon with Finn on Jakku. Or when they're being chased by the monsters on the freighter, isn't it funny how the one who gets snatched is Finn, and Rey has to save the day?

I think you're reading too much into some things here. For the Falcon chase things come along with "Why don't we have a moment where a character has to take an impossible shot?" and it goes from there. They wanted to emphasize some early teamwork between the characters. If there's a problem with the flying Finn can't really help with that, knowing nothing of flying, but if a gun is stuck Rey certainly can help with that since she can position the craft in a way to allow the gun to fire.

The question you should ask yourself is why didn't Finn just get into the other turret.

As for the alien monster thing, Finn already save Rey on Jakku, think of it more as returning the favor.

>Finally, on the Falcon, when they need to repair the Hyperdrive, isn't it interesting how Rey fixes it, not Han Solo? It's just way too fucking much.
It is implied when they first meet Han that Rey helped install the changes on the Falcon, and Han has never really been all that good at fixing the ship, or finding the various bugs and tech on it. Rey knew where the shit was and had the know how to bypass it.

Rey is and underdeveloped character that doesn't have time in the movie to show off her flaws to a good enough degree and her characterization suffers greatly for it.
>>
>>78689468
>First, and this can not be stated unequivocally enough - she is liked instantly by pretty much every "good" character.
Han Solo didn't, she saved BB-8, Finn was desperate for friends, Maz had good force-y feelings. Leia probably did too.
>Even Kylo Ren seems like a tsundere towards her, offering to train her and spazzing out in her presence.
Kylo spazs out at everything.
>Isn't it convenient that the gun jam up
During a dogfight? Not really.
>Finally, on the Falcon, when they need to repair the Hyperdrive, isn't it interesting how Rey fixes it, not Han Solo?
This is clearly explained in the movie.

As for the other stuff - I hate to break it to you champ, but the main character usually gets to do all the cool stuff in a movie.

Chewie did most of the work, but Han does know how to fix things. And eventually had to go to Cloud City because he never got the damn thing working. Plus his repairs were always getting interrupted by threats or he'd slack off to flirt with Leia.

And the anon is forgetting that Han was unaware of the changes made to the ship since it was stolen, but Rey was because she'd worked it.

Such as?

I can only think of the Geonosis arena, my god they spent too much time there. It starts off pretty good, maybe the best part of the entire movie, right up til' the Jedi arrive and then oh my god I stop giving a fuck.

The worst thing is? They cut scenes from that part that would have completely saved it for me.

Ki-Adi Mundi and a couple other Jedi were supposed to have a scene where they fight through to the control room, to try and shut down the droids, knowing that the Jedi in the Arena were dying with every second they take.

If they kept that scene in, it would have made it much more tense and interesting to watch IMO.

At least Jango was damn cool throughout, unlike his retarded wannabe son.

Well, Star Wars characters have always been pretty one dimensional, with some exceptions like Vader in ROTJ. Kylo Ren is interesting because he hides his own insecurities behind a mask. He pretends to be this powerful badass that he actually could be because he has amazing potential, but right now he's too emotionally unstable and too insecure to really be like his grandfather. He's also the first dark side character who feels drawn to the light. And while very subtle, there are moments in TFA where Kylo shows his inner light side. He never kills his officers for example even though he's portrayed as someone with a very short temper. He also didn't kill Finn in the village although he knew that Finn didn't participate in murdering the villagers. Then there is the scene with Han where he couldn't kill him until Han gave him the "permission" to do it. (Kylo at least interpreted Han's words like that)

He is a very fascinating character and the main reason why I'm excited for VIII. I liked Rey, Finn and especially Poe too, but Kylo really stole the movie, imo.

Place gets bombarded with shitposters a lot, so people have very little patience when someone doesn't at least discuss their opinions.

>The fish in Naboo
Least memorable part of the movie, somehow, I agree
>Podracing
In the minority here, but I love the entire race.
>The chase through Coruscant
I agree. The second half of it is cool I guess.
>Obi vs the Fetts
No, this is where I 100% disagree, Obi-Wan and Jango's scuffle, and the following space battle, are highlights of an otherwise very slow film
>Geonosis arena
Already explained my thoughts on that.

>the quality of writing for Star Wars characters outside of EU material.
People watch Star Wars for its simplicity. Whether they go deeper into characters is up to the movie and on that note then it becomes a matter of how they are presented but the OT thrived on stock characters and making them endearing.

This is where the PT also sort of failed because the characters were tried to be given more depth but ceased to be relatable on any front while it's much easier to relate to the TFA ones.

People often confuse lack of direction and concept for 'complexity'. TFA's characters have plausible depth. The PT's...really don't, even if they have more 'stuff'. All filler, no killer, basically.
>>
>>78691051
Maybe I should rewatch it. I just remember it being really awkward.
>>
>>78691076
Yes?

Honestly, what made Star Wars so great is that you can understand what's going on pretty much by the visuals alone. Of course when you get into it there is some complexities like with all things but overall, you know know the Empire is big and powerful and the Rebellion is small simply by the opening shot in ANH.
>>
>>78691019
Not really. I mean you're right about the plot. That should be simple. But the characters should just be well written and acted. Anakin could have been a far better character in the prequels if they just made him more sympathetic and not a creepy weirdo who never acts like a real friend to Obi Wan. Then we would've cared more about his fall to the dark side.
>>
>>78691142
>TFA's characters have plausible depth
fuck's sake NO
Take Finn. The idea of a Stormtrooper undoctrinated from birth could hae been great.
But in true ADHD generation writing fashion, Finn seemes to be more well adjusted than your average high school nerd a scene or two later.

Honestly, the only set pieces I actually like in the prequels and enjoy rewatching are the Dooku fights. Who knows, maybe I'm just too jaded.
>>

The first movie is a literal straight-forward Hero's Journey. It's literally studied in schools not for how complex or deep it's story material is, but for how naturally it follows the steps of one.

additional material should not be needed to make a movie character have depth.
>>
>>78691101
>the entire movie is you strapped to a tocketship headed for ANH
No. It's a rocketship up until that moment. Then two things are realized, 1) Dooku literally didn't do jack shit in these movies and is dead so he never will and 2) Jesus this franchise has way too much of a fetish for cutting off limbs

Then it's an up and down ride. Some parts are good and others aren't so good.

I'm not saying they have to be mutually exclusive. I'm saying Star Wars' storytelling is liked because its simple. Not that its the only way it can be. Simultaneously, having overly detailed storytelling doesn't always mean it will be good.

The mind trick can't be that advanced, they teach it to Padawans after all. Seems more like it's one of the more carefully taught skills, generally only passed on after they trust the student enough. Makes sense given how tempting it would be. Still the mind trick is one of those odd ones, in that the difficulty it represents scales with the willpower of the person you are using it on.

But in the end the entire thing is stupid. People are getting upset that someone with the Force is doing awesome stuff. It happens. Even the untrained can do amazing things, especially when they are the main character hero. And why? Because the Force has ALWAYS been a massive deus ex machina. The Force literally is destiny and exerts it's will on events all the time. This is a recognized fact in universe.

Q.E.D.
>>
I think people who have problems with the depiction of the force in TFA, especially Rey using it without any Jedi training, are still clinging on the EU/prequels depiction where "power levels" mattered more than willpower. Luke didn't have any training in ANH and he still managed to blow up the Death Star. The force in Star Wars was never supposed to be like abilities in DBZ that become more powerful with training, but more like haki in One Piece which someone can use, even against stronger opponents, if they just have enough willpower.

So basically there are two different conepts of the force: The OT/ST concept and the PT/EU concept. I prefer the former since it makes the force more mysterious to me.

It's not even that hard. Also not sure what fight that guy was watching but both times Rey fought Kylo Ren she ended up mostly running. Wasn't until the end that when he had her nearly beaten and stared gloating that she tapped into the Force.

>>
>>78692073
Word of George himself is that the OT depiction is the one closer to the truth, but no one has the "whole truth". The TCW episodes named "Destiny" are as close as we're ever going to get to the truth as such and they collapse the power level cardhouse rather thoroughly in favour of a mystical, living force that, worst of all, can change its mind and express sentiments that are contradictory in itself.

It's going to drive some people nuts, but I personally find it far more interesting than yet another bland book of codified spells.

Yeah, they'd just chop him up. Hell, they DO chop him up...

The jedi are, as seen in the PT at least, a para-military force of government agents whose main goal isn't necessarily "mastery" over using the force or great power, but rather integrity of their code. You gain master status by obeying the rules, jumping through hoops and slavishly following a dogma that is designed solely to prevent even the slightest chance you might fall to the dark side.

As a result, someone with absolutely no restrictions and an extreme force of will and personality walks hoops around them, but he'll still lose a sword fight/direct fight, because hey, he's still mortal and if you stab at him enough, he'll eventually take a hit and die.

Lucas himself (!) and Filoni explore this 'problem' with the prequel Jedi, and why Yoda is so vastly different in ESB, in the final arc of the Clone Wars series. It's well worth a watch.

Not quite, feminists want you to believe that they are anti-sex because that makes every sex rape.

This is so painfully true. I recall not to long ago an anon asks what everyone's political alignment is in one of these threads. Everyone said they were a leftie and even tried to chase me out of the thread for saying I'm republican.

I remember that.

I don't feel like an individuals politics should be important to the discussion or enjoyment of Star Wars, it's best nothing like that happens again.

I like the politics OF Star Wars, I don't like trying to talk about IRL politics using Star Wars as a scapegoat, even if it feels like an obvious thing to do.

It's just not fun discussion.

I like you. Seriously, you're all right.
>>

I like the politics too. But it needs to be in balance, not as a focus.

The way TCW did politics is the right way. Not TPM

I remember when the the rebels threads first happened and it was nothing but discussing rebels and lore.

Then people found out about these threads and started migrating over here once they learned it was better than talking Star Wars on /tv/.
Than the post quality declined and we just became another general. Shits kinda sad honestly. I don't even think people are here for Rebels anymore.

>>78693504
I think it's ok that we talk about other things, but the comics/cartoons should be priority just based on what board we're on. We should refrain from obvious topics that are overdone or just lead to shitposting (arguing about Rey being a Mary Sue, and whether Lucas/Prequels are good, for example. These only ever derail the thread with the same tired arguements)

If we steer clear of the obvious argument causing topics, we generally have a good time.

Also worth noting that Rebels is on break, which means people are more likely to be talking about TFA right now. Which is fine, but I'd rather it wasn't all about Rey.

>>78693543

At least we had the chance too se the clones blowing up some stuff again. THANKS FILONI!
>>
>>78694935
That was great though. Our old heroes are like myths which gives their actions in the OT more meaning. When people first read the MSW synopsis, they were instantly pissed about Luke only being in one scene in the movie, but making him someone the entire galaxy has heard of was more respectful to his character than making him a protagonist again.
>>
So are Snokes scars in a similar place to Vaders for potterys sake or do you think Snoke is somehow related to Vader?
>>
>>78680093

As much as people complained about the Sciencing of the Force, Mortis basically was TOO weird, spiritually and metaphorical for a lot of people.
>>
>>78695158
Its not just Luke though. Its a list of characters and events from the OT that fans know and love, and they wrote those lines for Rey as a cheat to get the audience to feel for her.

>>
>>78695403
>They have stupidly high standards and a narrow definition of what SW should be

I dislike when people use the argument 'X isn't Star Wars!' because it's so shortsighted.

To a lot of people, Star Wars is what they identify with the most. Whether that be spaceships, lightsabers, the Force, etc. Rather then critique Star Wars on what binds those elements together, they use their narrow view has a defense.

I'm not saying it's wrong to dislike things and voice your opinions, but if you just say

>Mortis isn't Star Wars
>Midichlorians aren't Star Wars
>Dex's Diner isn't Star Wars
>This planet isn't Star Wars
>Star Wars should look like 'X'
>Star Wars is always 'Y'

That's not really a strong defense.
>>
>>78695410
Writting your character as a fan of the series she's in is a cheat, and it unfortunately does make her a Mary Sue.

I don't think you even know what a Mary Sue is.

You may also notice both of our new characters recognize Han, and the Falcon, and what they did. It shows us how the characters in universe see the characters that we saw in the old movies, that is almost as if they were myths. Just because you got your panties in a twist that characters know about each other doesn't mean anything.
>>
Help me /swg/, you're my only help.
I'm looking for a list of canon Star Wars alien species, but can't seem to find one anywhere. I'm aware of the Wook's list, and I'm slowly picking through it, but was hoping to find a smaller list of canon ayy lamos first.
Any ideas?

>>
Need your input /swg/. My friends and I were arguing whether or not a droid could have a connection to the Force.
Sure they're not organic but they have personalities, emotions, identities, and pretty much act like sapient beings.

I argued that a anyone with a soul could tap into the Force, they said you have to have organic components.
What do you think?

Everything in the galaxy has a connection to the force, this is why the force can act upon these things.

but without midi-chlorians you can't influence anything through the force in a meaningful way.

>It shows us how the characters in universe see the characters that we saw in the old movies, that is almost as if they were myths.
That's just rationalization anon. If you just look at how Rey acts in those moments its clear what's going on. A Star Wars fan like you or I, was put in a staring role of this movie. You can pretend like its just universe building, but her character stands.
