Here's the problem, Anon. Not everybody is willing to stick through shit to get to the gems, especially if they're new to comics. For instance, when I read Hellblazer (took a few months between my job, but I managed), I found it a chore to get through the original Delano run. If I didn't know for a fact that there's good runs after, I wouldn't have been invested enough not only to stick it through to the good runs, but force my way through the bad ones to see the story to the end.
