Brian Michael Bendis is a gateway writer of the worst kind. He's a bad storyteller, with a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive double pages and WORDS. Bendis has mostly written A list pr popular characters and the rare times he didn’t his comics weren't received well.

Alias did decently but only because it was a mature comic which was a novelty and the art is horrendous and Bendis' OC suddenly gets retconned into the A and C list characters and their lives.

Jessica Jones show even had little to nothing to do with his comic aside from Jessica's origin, Luke and Purple Man but it was different and Bendis didn’t even work on that show and he is piggy backing on its success to promote his Powers shit show by telling people that he created Jessica Jones in a way that yeah he is not lying because he did make the character in the comics but yet to fool people into thinking he did the show.

TL;DR Bendis is a hack and a shit.

People like simplicity, lighthearted jokes, and being in the know.

He only writes the characters that are movie-prominent, ensuring that he gets the people that pick up books to be trendy, and he backs that up by making the material as unchallenging and juvenile as possible.

Plus, he has 5-6 thousand lemmings that will read his books no matter what, so he always adds slightly more to sales numbers than another writer might get.

This may be changing though. The #1 variant blitz aside, his Iron Man numbers are falling fast.

If he can't make Iron Man comics sell (they never sell) maybe Marvel will stop pushing Bendis so heavily. Maybe he gets put on a B-List character that doesn't have a movie coming out tomorrow and finally has to show some talent instead of living on the meme that he created Spider-Man. He'd fail at being able to sell a non-movie character and hopefully disappear after that.

Besides Marvel has found the formula to deal with bad sales and that's called relaunches. It somehow works for Squirrel Girl or Captain Marvel (according to Marvel which is the only opinión that matters) and will work for Bendis if he ever needs it. The only thing you can look forward is his retirement, of course that's not going to help much either because he will probably stay working at the company in some important capacity and all the writers of his team will continue enforcing his work.
