Should I even bother with this?
>>
Sure
>>
No.
The writer doesn't have a good voice for Laura.
>>
>>78619486

not really

The Hopeless book, New X-Men, which has X-23, is pretty good, he may not be the best writer but he knows very well the x-men, but the solo X-23 book isnt very good.
right now it is some not very interesting story about clones of her who will eventually die, and her dating young Angel from the past.
>>
>>78619486
No Laura isn't barefoot
>>
>>78619486
Its a pretty average book. If you're expecting to read about Laura Kinney then don't bother.
>>
I think it's a solid read. Then again, I knew nothing of X-23 before reading this book. It reads like a wolverine story except this wolverine has tits. Don't let /co/'s usual butthurt sway you too much.

I know this is an homage to Wolverine's first appearance, but I can't tell what they're doing in either panel. Are they running? Leaping? Floating in the air? What?
>>
>>78620441
>It reads like a wolverine story except this wolverine has tits
That's kind of the problem though. Laura shouldn't feel like Wolverine. Most of her comic lifespan has been spent trying to distance herself from just turning into Canucklehead.
>>
>>78620491
That's a valid point. As I said in my post, I don't know anything about X-23, which makes someone like me a lot more forgiving of that shortcoming. It feels like a series that was originally made for the original and then modified after the creative heard he was going to die.

Yes.
Tom Taylor takes poor concepts for books then brings it around into amazing stories.
He's like a reverse Slott.
>>
>>78621465

This Reverse Slott, does he talk like the Reverse Flash?
>>
>>78619486
No. This the moment Lara's entire life has been leading up to: Becoming the new Wolverine. Why isn't there more fanfare for this?
>>
>>78622234
it contradicts all Laura is since her conception... she didn't like to be The Wolverine or anything, she wanted to be her own person

But then Marvel has been retarded for some years so who knows
>>
>>78620787
If you want to read about X-23 read Lui's stuff on here, some of it has Sana on art and that stuff is amazing.
>>
Why does it have to be Wolverine. Why can't the title be X-23. Why is the Falcon Captain America, why can't The Falcon be the leader of the avenger and have a book called The Falcon. I fucking hate legacy characters so bad.
>>
>>78623901
You know why. Stop pretending to be stupid.
>>
>>78623956
Money. And progressiveness. But really money. It's so transparent I can't see how they get away with it.
>>
>>78623901
I don't mind Falcon being Captain America cause he gets the shield, it's a title and a passing of the torch. I would rather x-23 still be her own character
>>
>>78624113
I see it as fucked up that a black man is validated after taking the identity of a white man. It's just a lazy way to get people to notice someone if they aren't being talked about.

WHY FREAKN CLONES STORY ARC?
>>
>>78619486
It's Hopeless so no. On his best day he's mediocre.
>>
>>78625187
Wait, I forgot Hopeless didn't write this. Oh well, still ignore it. X-23 sucks anyway.
>>
>>78621465

Injustice, Earth 2, and Superior Iron Man were terrible. Where are these amazing stories?
>>
>>78623901
Falcon being Captain makes sense. Amadeus Cho being Hulk works, since they did get Pak to write it.

But Laura being Wolverine is just stupid.
>>
>>78619486
No.
>>
>>78631181
if you ignore all of her growth since Wolverine's death it'd be stupid, but as is it makes a fair amount of sense

but none of the people who wrote her since Wolverine's death even bothered to write her in character in the first place. This was never character development, just an overwrite of her personality by people too lazy to read fucking any of her books.
>>
>>78624673
Nah. Kate is a lot more more complex than what they turned X-23 into..
>>
This is sick and wrong. Imagine you had a friend called Billy. You used to play vidya and discuss comics. One day Billy dies in a tragic accident.

Some random girl from the other side of the country suddenly moves into his old place and calls herself Billy. She uses his clothes and comes over to play vidya and discuss comics, but understands nothing about either and keeps whining about the patriarchy. Would you like her as much as Billy?
>>
>>78620994
Who cares
>>
>>78632381
Wow. To think a human being can survive with this little cortical tissue!
Nature is full of wonders!

That is to say you are wrong, anon.
To make the analogy more fitting:
Billy was -say- the shopkeeper of a tiny store. Now his cloned daughter takes over the business as she thinks he would have liked her to. She's a lot like him in some ways, less in others. But she would like to be your friend because you were close with Billy and you have seen her around before. For years, actually.
>>
>>78632297
It's not about character development, which yes, it doesn't make sense. It's about giving Wolverine a vagina.

Marvel isn't about the long term growth and character development anymore. It's about short term pats on the head and mentions from outside media outlets.

Their target audience doesn't read comics. Those that do they figure will stick around anyway, which they are. Though if that article from an LCS owner from CBR is true, we may finally be seeing people wise up.
>>
>>78619486
No. Not because it's bad. But because it's only decent. It's very middle of the road. Perhaps on the better end of mediocre, but not particularly noteworthy.
>>
>>78619486
It's an okay Wolveine story,
>>
>>78633326
What article?
>>
It's solidly mediocre
Poor characterization of X-23 in my opinion
>>
>Laurafans complain about how her personality and character arc gets reset back to square one every time a new writer handles her
>Bendis gives her a generic quipping heroine personality because he has an extremely limited range when it comes to character voices and Taylor takes it from there
Enjoy your monkey's paw wish.

An easy workout about that would be saying she's simply acting like she's normal; remember, she was an assassin from the start, and she blended in well to her surroundings before she struck. She's trying, but when she's all alone she's still her usual introverted self. When she's around others she's just going through the paces.
>>
>>78634465
>How about the new and young readership? Marvel actually was starting to attract some of them at our stores -- books like "Squirrel Girl," "Ms. Marvel" and the Jane Foster "Thor" title were racking solid sales for us outside of the "traditional" Marvel customer. But that new/younger readership? They literally don't understand why you would start a book over again at #1. It makes no sense to them! And that confusion appears to have shooed a number of them off. In an equivalent sales period, our sales of the first issues of all of those series are actually below (dramatically so in the case of "Thor!") the final issues of the "old series" -- which was only on issue #8 for two of the three! But readers appear to be treating the relaunches as simply "issue #9." That's not typical consumer behavior.

Fantastic
>>
>>78633122
SJW pls go.
>>
>>78635235
So the getting new readers worked but they didn't expect renumber silliness that comic fans are used to. Maybe marvel will learn from this and either not do line wide relaunches or wait until a series has more than 12 chapters to relaunch.

Here's some retailers commenting on how strenuous ordering for the ANAD books was

This one analyzes months of sales data and many of the relaunched books are either doing the same or worse than the previous volume

Yeah, I've been thinking about how a writer might write himself out of this situation and get things back on track. That was actually one of the things I considered, too.
She just acts the part of Wolverine, because she feels that's neccessary for others. It would explain a lot.

Sadly that is not what's happening here.
I actually hoped the comic would be a bit more about that whole divide between her and Logan, but alas, it just wants to be a generic action series starring generic action girl.
