>Characters repeatedly use words that sound vaguely similar to tame swearing
>"Son of a [word that rhymes with bitch]"
>"What the [word that rhymes with fuck]"

I get that there'll be kids following it but surely just avoiding lines like this would be better. I'm reading some Spider-Man 209 and overuse of "shock" and "glitch" to replace "fuck" and "bitch" is grating.

The Power Puff Girls had something like that that has stuck with me for fucking years now.
Instead of saying "Whoop ass" they said "THE POWER PUFF GIRLS ARE GONNA OPEN A CAN OF WHOOP WHOOP ON YA."

I think once I heard that, it was the first time in my life that I cringed.

The wacky euphemisms are just part of the 2099 world, though. Like "frack" on Battlestar Galactica. Or Mork saying "shazbot."

Other times I agree, though mainstream comics are less bad about this than they used to be. Remember how at Marvel in the '80s and '90s characters always had to say "blast" instead of "damn," even though the Comics Code had allowed mild cursing since the '70s (it wasn't the Code, it was Marvel self-censorship that banned all curse words).

America is a big, culturally diverse country and to sell something in America you have to sell to a lot of people who think even the mildest swearing is inappropriate for kids to hear.

Which is why back when movies had a production code you couldn't even say "damn" or "hell" unless they were literal. Everything had to be done for the benefit of the people who were culturally opposed to swearing, immorality, etc.

I think this is one of the many reasons King of the Hill gets so much praise, how many times did it say fuck status quo and put out big, show changing events AND several episodes dedicated to the characters dealing with that change?

The older I get the more I realize KotH may have been the greatest animated show ever created.

All the gems are female (excluding Steven), so any relationship they get into with each other is lesbian. Garnet = Sapphire and Ruby's relationship, and it's all but stated outright that Pearl had a huge crush on Rose, Steven's mom.

Exactly, that's the problem with entertainment companies in America today. They cater to the wrong demogrphic. It's the reasons why capefags and nigga on /v/ are mad about their favorite companies pandering to the sjw/feminism crowd, because these big companies in America are afraid to offend people who don't even use or watch their products. It's fucking Rd idicoulous

A lot of the replies to your post are not fully written answers but just "Everything". You may think that this must mean it is an exaggeration. You would be wrong.
As somehow who genuinely likes the show and has seen every episode, lesbianism is not only a romance angle, or a theme, but a central plot point to both the active ongoing story and the deep lore.
Everything about Steven Universe is, in some way, shape or form, directly or indirectly, gay.

Agreed, musical episodes have to be the most obnoxious ones.

I'm mostly talking about fusion and Pearl's thing for Rose. Trying not to be terribly specific in case he wants to try out the show for himself; spoilers and all.
Though I guess my pic already kind of ruined some of that.
>>
>>78518052

Being, as I am, a full-blooded /pol/tard I have a very complicated relationship with Steven Universe.

I think it might be the same kind of relationship that a lot of genuinely faithful, conservative Christian men have with porn.

I look at the Steven Universe and I see that it is good and I want to look at it. But I know that it is rotten and that if I continue to look at it I might turn rotten too.

Most of the time I can manage to suppress my right-thinking /pol/ack instincts and gleefully consume it, but once in a while, as I am watching Pearl look at a prepubescent boy, I remember that she is actually lusting for the woman stuck inside him, and then I see visions of big nosed men with curly hair, rubbing their little hands together as they gloat over the moral destruction they are wreaking and at that point I just have to turn it off and go do something else.

Little kids may not read superheroes but there are still plenty of people who read superheroes and still live with their parents. Some of those parents don't want their kids reading anything with bad language. It's a big country.

>I can understand slipping into mother tongue whilst swearing or angry

Being a non-native English speaker myself, I sure as shit can't.

It's far more likely that I might use English swears while speaking my mother tongue, I cannot fucking imagine using my mother tongue to swear while in the middle of speaking English, with the possible exception of someone throwing something at me or me stubbing my toe while speaking or summat.
>>
>>78521221
It helps the fuck is one of the most versatile words in the English language.
>>
>>78516836
>>78517033
I've actually thought about this.

I think swearing is censored because it upsets children.

It upsets children because it reminds them of their parents fighting, adults screaming at or abusing them, awful accidents where someone hurts himself and they yell obscenities, and other uncomfortable situations.

My little brother had a thing in his pre-teens where swearing legitimately bothered him because, though they love each other, my mother and step-dad would argue quite a bit, and, if you didn't know them, it would seem concerning.

That's why I think swearing is censored from children. I thought it was funny as a kid, but for others, it just takes away entertainment as a form or escape and happiness.
>>
>>78521306

I'm sorry dude, but that idea is way out in the fucking boonies.

Swearing was controlled in the fucking 1920s. You think people in the 1920 gave a singular fuck something marginally upset a child?

Censorship of swear words is a largely outmoded tradition, it is not enforced because of any currently relevant reason except for "Being rude isn't nice"
>>
>>78521221

Opposite for me. If I swear with some weight and emotion in it, it's me slipping into my mother tongue
>>
>>78516380
None of that was forced, though. Pearl's pretty clearly been in love with Rose for the whole show, and Ruby/Sapphire was intended from the beginning.
>>
