He's still alive though, I wonder what he thinks about the industry in its current state.
>>
>>78515903
Oh boy, imagine if he went back to editing Marvel.
>What did you say, son? That you won't make the deadline because someone disliked you on facebook? Well, don't worry, I know who can replace you... permanently.

He looks like a hardcore Jerry Gergich.
>>78519173
The stress would either mold Bendis into a healthy human being or he'd be constantly on the verge of dying.
>>
>>78519354
He founded Valiant Comics, dude.
>>
>>78519421
So nothing?
>>
>>78519442
Byrne pls
>>
>>78519354
Founded Valiant, got kicked out by his own people.
Founded Defiant, got sued by Marvel over bullshit, took a hit financially, Defiant gets shut down.
Created Broadway Comics for Broadway Video Entertainment. Broadway Video gets sold to Golden Books, which then goes bankrupt.
Since then he's done occasional stuff for Dark Horse (such as their acquisition of Gold Key characters like Magnus and Turok) and DC (some pre-New 52 Legion stuff).
>>
>>78515903
I miss him too.
>>
>>78519674
Can we have him as the next DC EiC?
>>
>>78515903
Marvel never recovered after he left. Only decent books they've published in the last quarter century are mostly out-of-continuity stuff like Punisher MAX, Silver Surfer Requiem, early Ultimate stuff, Marvel Adventures, etc.

Does anyone have that quote of Shooter talking about Bendis' Spider-Man?

Planet Hulk and the Marvel Cosmic stuff while Civil War was going on and taking up all the attention allowing then to write Kl'rt pretty dang well.

All-New Spider-Man #1?
>Brian Michael Bendis is the writer, so savvy-me knows that there will be more Lego blocks, and that a choo-choo is in the offing. Eventually.

Wait there's more:
>So is the writer, judging from other things I’ve seen. He’s not stupid, untalented or unskilled. It seems as though he phoned this one in. Easy money. Why not, if the Marvel editorial bozos are clueless enough to pay for six pages worth of story fragments crammed into 21 pages, with reckless disregard for, to paraphrase Twain, slovenliness of form?
>Feh.
>And people wonder why comics don’t sell.

Bendis is a massive Byrne fanboy and there's no one on Earth that despises Shooter quite like Byrne. Bendis would dismiss Shooter's opinions on anything simply for that.
>>
>>78520139
At that age, Shooter was writing some of the best Legion comics. If a little honest criticism makes them cry then they'll never cut it in the professional world.

>>
>>78520340
Where did Byrne piss on Slott?
>>
>>78520378
So why does he like Byrne?

>>78520389
On Byrne's forum
>>
Every time I hear a story about how Shooter was a dick and basically a total slavedriver to the creators, I'm reminded of this story.

http://www.jimshooter.com/2011/09/chris-claremont-face-down-in-his-mashed.html?m=1

>tldr
Basically, Claremont was mad that the Avengers staff got to go to Palm Beach for a con, and he had to go to some con in the Midwest. Unlike now, the Avengers were Literally Who's and the X-Men were the top sellers, so he was pissed. Shooter asked where Claremont would like to go, and Claremont said sarcastically, "Paris."

Literally the same day, after making a few visits, hewl went back to Claremont and basically said "Pack your bags, you and the entire X-Man crew are going on a trip to Paris."
>>
>>78520389
I think it was when ANAD Spiderman was announced, Byrne ripped into him on his forum. Slott tried to defend himself, but he couldn't get Byrne's dick out of his mouth for long enough to really accomplish anything, he's so in awe of the man. It was kinda pathetic to be honest, and I'm not even sure I agreed with what Byrne was saying.
>>
>>78520425
>Unlike now, the Avengers were Literally Who
frankly, it didn't really change that much. Avengers became high profile after Wolverine and Spider-Man joined them.
>>
>>78520440
Yeah, I actually felt kinda bad for Slott for once since some of Byrne's points were kinda bullshit, but Slott's reactions were hilarious.
>>
>>78520440
What Byrne said about ANAD Spider-Man was actually bollocks, and hypocritical.
However, it was very cute how Slott was being battered and asking for more.
>>
>>78515903
The thumbnail sort of looked like Neil Adams. All I could think was thank god that bastard is gone.
>>
>>78519904
>>78519930
Jesus, savaged
>>
>>78520465
>Avengers became high profile after Bendis started writing them.
Fixed, to be quite honest family.
>>
>>78520532
Whatever makes you sleep at night anon.
I'm not really in the mood for arguing about it.
>>
>>78520425
>a total slavedriver
He had a strong guiding hand and he expected the creators to take deadlines seriously. He became more of a control freak around Secret Wars II

I don't think it's fair to paint him as some corporate goon since creator's rights made huge leaps while he was running the show, but I understand why creators were bitter after more hands off editors like Roy Thomas and Archie Goodwin
>>
>>78520550
>it was Bendis' idea to put Wolverine and Spider-man on the Avengers to boost their profile
>it works
Ergo, Bendis is responsible for the Avengers becoming the hot property of the 00s.

Also he killed off 99% of the mutants, then finished them off 8-10 years later, so less competition.
>>
>>78520521
>was actually bollocks, and hypocritical

Yeah it was basically you're bad because you change things which damages the legacy

Slott then pointed to Byrne's own changing of She-Hulk and Byrne just sort of brushed it off and continued to insult him
>>
>>78520440
Link pls?
>>
>>78520614
There is irony, that the only time Slott was right, he was completely torn piece by piece by Byrne.
>>
>>78520610
Bendis pls
>>
>>78520568
>Archie Goodwin
Now THERE was an editor. One of the best Marvel's had.
>>
>>78520610
The thing is, try to make Avengers popular WITHOUT two of the most iconic marvel characters. And Bendis is not a miraclemaker. He couldn't make Moon Knight a top seller. His MK series was the shortest volume in MK's history. It's funny, because Hickman could give the same sales that Bendis did, and I doubt Waid will do either.
>>
>>78520674
*but I doubt Waid will do.
>>
>>78520674
>He couldn't make Moon Knight a top seller
Well yeah, because it sucked.
>>
>>78520705
Just like his Avengers.
>>
>>78520665
best anyone ever had

Goodwin was the reason people wanted to work for Warren Publications even though the pay was worse according to Alex Toth.
>>
>>78520811
in other words, he was a shmuck who could sweet talk you into a shitty deal
>>
>>78520222
You don't have to be an asshole about it and literally say it looks like shit
>>
>>78521835
Why not? Imagine Shooter saying Henderson that she draws like shit.
