To play the devil's advocate, romance is handled so poorly so much of time in movies and TV. It is literally thrown in their for the sake of having it, regardless of whether or not it makes sense, most of the time. Look at the Thor movies, for instance.

I mean, it's stupid to say that about Daredevil, who--apart from simply being a man slut--has some interesting and crazy romances in his character history, but y'know... when you're fed shit flavored noodles 95% of the time, you get to develop a natural gag reflex even around tasty ramen
