Matt Groenings biggest inspiration for Itchy & Scratchy was this italian underground comic from the 80's. Can't storytime it though since it contains sex and gore and since the characters are fable animals I guess it's prohibited on /aco/ too.

Other good italian stuff:
Altan's dark humour/realism comics
Ranxerox
Manara
Magnus
Crepax

Why is Dylan Dog the only italian americans seems to know about anyway? Didn't you have loads of italian stuff in Heavy Metal and RAW back in the day?
>>
>>78467284
>Why is Dylan Dog the only italian americans seems to know about anyway?

-Americans are barely interested in their own comics, certainly aren't in those of other countries. Manga is an exception thanks to 90s viral marketing
-Bonelli is the only one with enough money to export it to the US, and Dylan is their only character that may appeal to the US

> Didn't you have loads of italian stuff in Heavy Metal and RAW back in the day?

Yep, there still is, but those kind of magazines have become even more of a niche so it's hard for americans to know about.

In Italy we had a lot of comic authors who worked independent from publishers and wich unique style died with them without leaving a legacy.
Bonelli and Disney are the bigger publishers, that's why Dylan Dog and Paperino keep selling without disappearing from the market.
>>
>>78467277
Oh, okay. Thanks. Is he a white-haired character? Suave type?
>>78467284
Mattioli is great, I have his Superwest collection (it says it's #1 but I'm not sure if there were any more? Published by Catalan), really good cartoonist, definitely.
Not American but I know all those cartoonists and, yes, there were a few Italians in both anthologies you mentioned...more in Heavy Metal, though. RAW? I would have to check my own collection. I know the first issue of volume 2 has an Italian cartoonist in it whose name I have forgotten. Marti who did The Cabbie was in there but I'm not sure if he's Italian or Spanish.
>>78466864
Great cartoonist. First Second published a good few of his books but I think they flew under most people's radar. "Notes On A War Story" and "Garage Band" were really good, I prefer the former myself but both are really solid comics. Great drawing.

That made it a bad comic? You must be the "bonkers" one if you think that two young women travelling without men wouldn't be hit on in ways that made them feel uncomfortable. It boils down to a bit more than "how dare people look". The whole comic just felt raw and real and direct, I liked it. And I'm pretty sure that is her real name, Anon.

"Asking the mods" is easier said than done.

It seems that nothing has changed for /co/ though, and posting nudity still gets people in trouble.

It's not just that though, they were literally the center of attention of most men around, as if they were supermodels with their boobs out. It's a delusion either derived from paranoia or narcissism, or both.
I don't know what reality you live in if you think that can happen anywhere except Islamic states.

Zerocalcare is the most popular webcomic these days. It doesnt get translated and uses roman dialect so probably nobody ever heard of it outside Italy.

That's not the only problem with Manara, his women have all the same bodytype, it's some Stepford Housewives shit. I don't know how he got so big for them in the first place.

When he doesn't work on his own though and someone puts his ass in check he can do very good characters though, like in his Sandman comic.

Yes but it's a specific brand of internet lolz, it's not exactly a rip-off but it's really derivative.

Kinda like what happened with Dylan Dog in the 90s.

Well, he's a very good draftsman, I suppose that's why. Also his stories have that "continental" appeal that you see in a lot of French art and cinema (but not so much in comics), that type of, I want to say pretentious weirdness but that sounds a bit ignorant, I can't quite put it into words.
Didn't realise it was you but you did go back "on thread" and I'm not 12.

Another Italian cartoonist who I think is fucking great is Attilio Micheluzzi, he needs more English translations, amazing cartoonist.

Comics should always be "pop". Thinking comics should be artsy is why the italian comic world is quite unporductive and stale.

I thought it was for the fact that italians don't read comics anymore and the only major publishers are Bonelli and Disney.

What the fuck are you guys talking about.
We had dozens of new authors and styles popping up in this decade alone and italian comics sell a lot, literally hundreds of times more than americans in the US.

we're starting now to get a move. Till this moment everything was pretty still with the exception of based Ortolani and his Rat-Man

This is Paolo Bacilieri, he's famous for his work on Napoleone (Bonelli) and some indipendent work, most notably Sweet Salgari, a biography of Emilio Salgari.
