I've watch some of the recent anime and they tend to dump all of this terrible cg left and right thinking it looks better (and saves time and money). Those shows were pretty bad.

They use a mix of both. Shirobako is a pretty good show about how anime is made, if you want to know more.

It's ok for importing png layers, but the pen that the program has is terrible. So as as long as you have Photoshop or Sai, your fine.

And Firealpaca has frame by frame animation tools, so you should check that out if you want. (Sai and Firealpaca are free by the way)

I don't own the program itself, but I do own the sister program Manga Studio. Despite having the word "manga" in its name, many American and European artists swear by it. It's not specifically made for manga, and I'm sure that Anime Studio is not specifically made for anime.

Smith Micro programs are pretty great (technically Smith Micro is just the American Distributor, the company behind it is a Japanese company called Celsys. Remember that if you ever have any issues with it.) They tend to have a higher learning curve than most other programs, but once you get the hang of it, they're indispensable.

I'd suggest grabbing a How to Book or Anime Studio for Dummies just to walk you through it, until you've got the hang of it.

Maybe our definitions are different. For the most part Japanese animators still rely on animating the actual movements by 'hand' and not using software like in the OP that basically create puppets so you can manipulate them digitally. If you mean traditional animation as in drawing and coloring everything using physical mediums then yeah you're right, they do digital cleanup, create digital backgrounds and use 3D aids now.

In the real world you will get a mix of people. Some of those people are plain assholes. 4chan should be no different. The problem with the internet is that it encourages hugboxing because people can avoid those they do not like which creates unrealistic expectations of reality, since irl you cannot avoid such people.
