This show was really good, but the sex scenes were unnecessarily long. Some episodes felt like a porno almost.
Krysten Ridder is super hot but I think they went overboard.
>>
I really don't like puritan americans.
>>
>>78408086
Maybe.
I liked the ones after they both realized they both had powers.

The first one is mostly character play that doesn't make sense until later down the series.
>>
>>78408086
It's only like the first two or three episodes that have sex scenes.
>>
>>78408086
How can a show have to many sex scenes?
Especially with a hot girl like Krysten there should have been more.
>>
>Literally a show about death, violence, and abuse

That's not really the same though. OP isn't making a complaint about decency, just content. Like complaining if a show spent too much time on a character cooking.

I hated how Luke very clearly cucked a guy and ruined his marriage, and yet the show never portrays him in the wrong for doing this. They even go as far claiming he's the victim.

Later on when the guy and his friends(all of them white, by the way) looking to kick his ass, he effortlessly wrecks them, doesn't even break a sweat. He's falling asleep as he's destroying 15 guys.

It was fucking gross, I'm a woman and hated that bullshit.

Wasn't even his fault. Luke didn't know he was sleeping with a married woman. She even took off her ring before going out with Luke, so how was he supposed to know?

Why are you mad at him and not the cheating wife?

>He's falling asleep as he's destroying 15 guys.
Okay..? What, so, should Luke have just let them beat him up because you feel bad for them?

>I'm a woman and hated that bullshit.
No one gives a shit that you have a cunt, breeder bitch.
>>
>>78409677
Yeah, pushing the guy's face against broken glass as he told him to go back to his wife and beg for forgiveness was super heroic, huh?

He's fucking indestructible, let the guy and his friends beat him up and get it out of their systems as a "my bad" gesture, he's not gonna get harmed anyway. Then when Jessica shows up to break it off you create an interesting situation.

>I protect me and what is mine
What a load of shit
>>
>>78408086
The show is bad because the writing is bad. Jessica is obsessed with exonerating the girl who killed her parents, saying that she doesn't want the girl to "lose twenty years of her life." Where's the concern for the man from her apartment who lost 20+ years of his life by killing himself while under Kilgrave's control? What about the old lady who lived next door? Yes, she was a bitch but if you don't think Kilgrave deserves to be killed, then certainly she doesn't deserve to be blown up while also under Kilgrave's control. If you count the men that Simpson had with him, that's at least four deaths that could have been prevented if she just killed Kilgrave, which is the only sensible option when dealing with someone like him. I mean, does she honestly think that sending him to prison is going to stop him? Even if she wants that only to get the girl out of prison, she has to know that he's just going to do the same to another girl to get back at him.

I know that superheroes are supposed to be better than the people they fight and this is a problem with nearly all superheroes, but I expected better from this show being on Netflix where they can get away with more stuff.
>>

>Theres something about her.

...no, no there isn't.
>>
>>78408483
>Over-saturated
Sex scenes are extremely rare in western tv and film. GoT makes up like 75% of all of them throughought the past 20 years.
>>
>>78410044
You are like 7 different types of stupid. Luke Cage is in no sense of the word a 'hero' at this point in his life. He even says it pretty plainly himself.
>told him to go back to his wife and beg for forgiveness
>beg for forgiveness
Absolutely did not happen, also makes zero sense.

>He's fucking indestructible, let the guy and his friends beat him up and get it out of their systems as a "my bad" gesture, he's not gonna get harmed anyway.

He didn't do anything wrong, his cunt of a wife was the one sleeping around. There was no reason for him to take a beating that he didn't deserve, and he most definitely didn't feel any sort of sympathy for a fuccnigga that brings 8 of his friends to settle a personal score with one nigga.
This is the dumbest thing I've read today. Go put it in your fanfiction.

>He's fucking indestructible, let the guy and his friends beat him up and get it out of their systems as a "my bad" gesture
He did nothing wrong, and a guy who brings 8 other guys to beat up somebody over an affair does not deserve sympathy in that scenario.
>>
>>78410273
The writing was okay, not great. The character being flawed doesn't mean the writing is bad, real people make decisions based on emotions, projections, and pettiness.

Also doesn't help that you don't seem to understand the plot very well. For example
>I mean, does she honestly think that sending him to prison is going to stop him?

Never happened. She didn't care about putting him through the judicial system, at no point is that ever the dilemma.

Also Nuke's boys got their shit wrecked of their own accord.

I know that this may come as a surprise to you, being from /tv/ and all, but when people make threads about shows here we tend to talk about the show.
>>
>>78410273
That's the point, though. She's overly obsessed to the point of making bad decisions. In her mind, proving that Kilgrave made Hope do it was like proving to herself that what she did under Kilgrave's influence wasn't her fault either. It made no logical sense and it isn't until the end that she's willing to admit that to herself, confront Kilgrave and kill him.

Is it dumb that she didn't kill him right away? Yes, but the show is about her process of getting over that bullshit.
>>
>>78410613
right, all those comics where she has became a fan favorite character that got mass appeal even from casuals
>>
>>78410808
>when people make threads about shows here we tend to talk about the show.

>>

How does being really strong mean you can't get cut? That's Luke's power, stupid.
>>
>>78411683
most superheroes with super strength have some kind of super resistance or invulnerability to physical damage that protect them from themselves. a normal human being who punches someone hard enough will break the bones in their hand. with jessica's super strength but lack of invulnerability, shouldn't she be breaking her hands every time she punches someone?

You're not very bright, you should stop trying to be clever over the internet.

She mentions explicitly that she has metahuman physiology which includes resistance to damage and fast healing/metabolism, in case the scenes of her getting tasered 6 times by 3 or 4 dudes at once and shrugging off gunshot wounds and lacerations that are fine the next day without medical attention were too subtle for you.

You seem to misunderstand what I mean by trauma porn. Despite the superficial darkness of the show, it's fundamentally optimistic at its core; the characters' flaws are rooted in trauma (even Kilgrave), implicitly suggesting that trauma is the only impediment they have to radical self-actualisation—all bad action is the corollary of trauma rather than intrinsic personal qualities. This is a nauseating view of the world—people (especially women and minorities) are blameless victims of broken systems, with only the barest amount of personal accountability.

It's how the world works. Nobody exists in a vaccuum, and literally everyone is a product of their environment. Free will does not exist in some magic space where it can steer a person's actions but not be molded by the outside world.

It's a big part of why blame games are so pointless. You do what will make things better.

>>
>>78413565
Kilgrave is brain damaged, and due to his power and medical history has had essentially no exposure to human social behavior outside of watching TV (he mentions as much, that's where he found out what love looks like). So, he may be an asshole, but he's an asshole with plenty of excuses; you're just not going to get a well adjusted human being with that backstory.
>>
If we're going to talk about sex scenes in Jessica Jones, lets talk about the mind control fetish fuel (or lack thereof)...

I've heard that sort thing was toned down quite a bit from the original comic material. But I haven't read it to confirm, has anyone here?
>>
>>78416384
In Alias, he never raped Jessica. Instead, he made her want to have sex with him and refused to let her.
>>
>>78416492

>>
>>78416558
Yes and no. It was more unique, but mad Kilgrave a flat sociopath instead of "How much of a monster would a normal person be with mind control?" plus the whole "Wants the one thing he can't have" bit.

Also, I don't see how it's Tumblr at all. Tumblr hates rape existing in fiction. It's too upsetting to them.
>>
>>78417103
>a flat sociopath
Something he already is on the show. Boo-fucking-hoo.
>>
>>78417145
Meant to say "sadist".

And he's not completely flat in the show. He has his desire for the one thing he can't have, his delusion over his childhood and being a decent person, and the fact that he's the ultimate spoiled brat, like that kid from the Twilight Zone. He's not needlessly evil - He's a highly believable result of someone with his history.
>>
>>78417362
That's the definition of flat. In fact, it's a rehash of Ledger's already one-dimensional Joker but with the "he's just a spoiled kid" bullshit as if that adds depth.
>>
>>78408103
Americans really don't like slutty French people.

I love a good sex scene, between characters I actually give a shit about and whose relationship I am invested in. Not two people who just fucking met. Am I a prude for not liking what you don't like?
>>
>>78417440
It's absolutely less flat than "evil", and more importantly it gives him an actual motive.

He has literally nothing in common with TDK's Joker other than wearing purple.

Ledger's Joker was a guy who was trying to prove his philosophy correct. He wasn't especially complex, but he had his own desires and personal conflict (as Bats suggests he's just trying to prove to himself that he's no worse than anyone else), so he's not flat, either.
>>
>>78417457
Define "evil". Because even the shallowest of villains have motives unless they're cartoon characters.
And no, it's not less flat. Being a selfish brat who wants a new toy is one of the most hollow motivations imaginable.

>>78417518
>I'm a bastard and everyone is a bastard like me
How is that not fucking flat?
>>
>>78417587
It's still more than one layer. And it's a simple motivation, but leagues better than "I just like hurting people".

>How is that not fucking flat?
Because it's more than one characteristic. He is both motivated by an ideal and insecure about it.
>>
>>78417648
>It's still more than one layer.
Good joke, anon.
And no, it's in the same tier as "I just like hurting people" of awfulness no matter how hard you try to deny it.
>>
>>78417796
It's clearly not, though. 2 dimensions is more than one.
>>
>>78417826
What 2 dimensions?
Joker's only character trait is projecting like a dumb teenage anarchist.
Michael Corleone is two-dimensional, Joker is even more shallow than John Doe from Se7en, a movie that TDK subtly ripped off.
>>
>>78417922
I already explained them: His ideals, and his insecurity.

Kilgrave has his desires and his social retardation.
>>
>>78417966
Desire to hurt people: desire to feel power over others and hide your insecurities by presenting yourself as something scary to your victim and possibly convincing yourself that you are not powerless.
See, I can do that too! Doesn't make it less one-dimensional.

Joker's ideals and insecurity are bland trash and an excuse to pretend he's not a one-dimensional villain.

Kilgrave is the most shallow villain I've seen on television in ages.
>>
>>78418030
>Kilgrave is the most shallow villain I've seen on television in ages.
How much TV do you watch? Because he's not even the shallowest cape villain on TV, let alone all of it.

Making him a sadist would have made him infinitely more boring.
>>
>>78418082
>infinitely more boring
That wouldn't be possible.
And I don't watch TV capeshit. I only watched JJ because a person involved with the series I liked is a showrunner here.
>>
>>78418030
>Desire to hurt people: desire to feel power over others and hide your insecurities by presenting yourself as something scary to your victim and possibly convincing yourself that you are not powerless.
That's speculation that was never touched upon in the original series. A villain is one-dimensional when all they have is a motive, with no insight into why, or any internal conflict.

Joker and Kilgrave aren't deep, but they aren't one-dimensional either. They're both entertaining, the former fills his thematic role well, and the latter is a highly believable person.
>>
>>78418141
>That wouldn't be possible.
It would.

If you watched any other cape TV you could tell. I can respect you having higher standards, but don't claim it to be among the worst when it's not even in the lower 70% of garbage on TV.
>>
>>78418183
>Kilgrave
>entertaining
No. He's the same kind of boring as the final villain on Dexter. About as believable too. A believable person would be terrified of themselves if they ruined someone's life with powers like that and would probably lock themselves away not wanting to interact with people and be an even bigger mess than Jessica which would be ten thousand times more interesting and fitting thematically than what we've got.

He's just a generic sociopath on the show.

>>78418216
Oh, come on.
He makes someone like Malvo on Fargo look like an actual character.
>>
>>78416558
Naw. Kilgrave having a clear goal makes for a stronger narrative, plus him being a product of his powers leaves some conversation to be had rather than none. The only thing the original had going for it was novelty - "Oh, I haven't seen that torture method before".

>>78418309
>A believable person would be terrified of themselves if they ruined someone's life with powers like that and would probably lock themselves away not wanting to interact with people
If they grew up with those powers, they absolutely would not. I'd argue that it's even unrealistic to expect an adult who can get whatever they want with no consequences to stay on the moral path.
>>
>>78418584
Bullshit. Normal people mature and develop empathy.

>unrealistic to expect an adult who can get whatever they want with no consequences to stay on the moral path
Now that's what I call edgy.jpg
No one would pull the same shit Kilgrave pulled with powers like that, unless they're already as fucked up as say Ted Bundy.
>>
>>78418795
>Normal people mature and develop empathy.
Even when the entire world bends to their whim, and they almost never interact with people as people rather than playthings or tools?
>>
>>78418795
>No one would pull the same shit Kilgrave pulled with powers like that, unless they're already as fucked up as say Ted Bundy.
I strongly disagree, as do the writers and David Tennant.
>>
>>78419142
Kids casually torture animals to death, then grow up feeling remorseful even though they got away with it.
I'd imagine with tormenting people the remorse would be worse.
>>
>>78419185
Those gets get exposed to being on the other side of things, though, and dealing with human beings AS human beings. Kilgrave got none of that, which is precisely why he's so messed up, like a giant kid. He's totally disconnected from humanity because he's never interacted with them like a normal person.
>>
>>78412712
Somebody pls
>>
>>78419343
And it's still stupid and unbelievable.
Again, human brain develops. A kid may kill someone as because he doesn't see others as human (and let's be honest, kids are entirely capable of that), then spend their entire life feeling remorseful. Human influence is irrelevant, otherwise street kids would be all irredeemable sociopaths.

Not to mention he can interact with people like a normal person, which makes him as a character even more retarded.

He's not believable.
He's messed up because he's a shit villain on a shit show and his childhood bullshit is just an idiotic contrived way to fool a viewer into thinking that he has any depth.
>>
>>78419156
I'll consider their opinions when they'll make a good show.
>>
>>78419521
>Human influence is irrelevant, otherwise street kids would be all irredeemable sociopaths.
Street kids experience suffering. They can empathize because they've actually been in the place of people who suffer. They're the opposite of spoiled and entitled brats like Kilgrave. A better comparison would be people born wealthy and pampered all their lives, who often lack empathy for the suffering of those less fortunate simply because they're so disconnected from them. Even most people will have difficulty relating to problems too different to ones they have faced.

>Not to mention he can interact with people like a normal person, which makes him as a character even more retarded.
He can humble them, but people will still only do what he lets them do, and if he ever wants anything he can get it instantly.
>>

>>
>>78419666
So, you're admitting he's no different than characters on Scream Queens.
Except that show was aware its characters are one-dimensional caricatures, while JJ pretends anyone on it has any depth.
>>
>>78408086
Who gives a shit? Maybe if the sex scenes were a bit longer and showed off Ritter's ass then the show would actually be worth a damn

Are you... arguing for the adaption not to adapt the material proper?

And why do you think every person with that kind of power would act the same? For example the author of calvin and hobs. Most people would milk the shit out of a popular comic that he had, but he didn't.

But anyways Killgrave isn't shakesperan deep, nobody will argue that. But he is pretty damn believable for a person with parent issues, got essentially tortured at a young age, and has to deal with having no true legitimate social contact unless he talks in very basic sentences.

>>
>>78422463
Well, Zebediah is shit so I guess Kilgrave being a shit character counts as "adapting proper".

Neither comic nor tv series versions are interesting as a character, (TV series being a mild improvement, but still barely being a step-up from Jason Voorhees and someone more fitting to be a one-shot villain than a main antagonist) and he's not menacing or scary to make up for that.
At least straying from the source material further could've made him an actual character.
Worked for Mister Freeze, after all.
