Let me guess, she can walk in the sun, immune to holy water, and walk into a church with no issues, right? Why not just make her a fey or a yokai. I don't get the hard on people have for vampires. How does one 'become' fey or yokai? The whole point with vamps is that it's contagious.

That said, Marvel was just trying to market Marvel to all the people who like vampire novels and movies. They did as poor a job understanding that demographic as ever.

And just look at how they tried to turn feral mutants into wolf people when werewolves started to also become popular again, and how they tried to do a teen death-match book when Hunger Games was at the height of popularity... not hard to figure out their motivation.
