I don't know. The music is better in the second, with the bombastic rock opera style, but the lyrics in both are pretty "explainy" and on the nose.

This movie was a huge let down. One of my favorite books as a kid and after the godawful live action Seus movies, I thought this one might have had a chance at getting it right.

It's too bad the video portion of it is kind of garbage. Don Bluth has no concept of pulling his punches, everything he animates has everything bouncing and jumping and jiggling along constantly and that video's the culmination of it. The entire fucking screen is filled with spasming, seizuring bugs jerking and kicking violently on the ground while an old man jumps and waves his arms around and dances in the background, it's ridiculous.

Hellfire gets a lot of unjust praise. It could have been a song as huge as the finale of Fantasia, dealing with hellfire and the devil and lust and revenge and lots of other powerful imagery and emotions, and instead it's this stunted "muh dick if she won't be mine I'll kill her" and they rhyme fire and pyre in the worst way possible.
