Canada subsidizes top quality animation to be archived in the national film board for the purpose of producing art, so all the good animators that can manage to get those grants will almost inevitably go for that route. Unlike in the US, where it's either starve to death or produce cartoons for children. Every artist wants total creative freedom, after all, and if they're offered it then they'll take it. That leaves only the bottomscrapers that can't get the grants to do cartoons for public television. Also, Canada has a law that requires a certain amount of Canadian produced cartoons to be shown on TV and subsidizes those, as well as skimming the top animators off for the NFB, so it's a double whammy. There's an open market for the dregs so it gets produced.

The stuff from the NFB is excellent, but that doesn't get shown on american tv to children.

50% Canadian content quotas. 50% of a broadcasting channel's content needs to be at least partially produced in Canada.

All these regulations end up doing is encouraging Canadian channels to produce cheap, often awful shows, and broadcast them during graveyard slots, with American shows taking up prime time.

I can understand a lot on that list - in fact, I'd almost forgotten our country's sins of Angela Anaconda, A for Awesome, Kid versus Kat, and ruining Scaredy Squirrel - but do people actually dislike League of Super Evil?

I remember it being pretty kinda low-budget, but having fairly original plots and neat recurring characters.

I had to grow up on this shit and as a result my idea of quality was awful until I got the Internet and got to see actual good and well made shows
