Good evening owls of /co/,
Oh, why not
I have no idea!
also, get ready for 90s WORDS
and 90s THOR!!!!
nice rack, Titania
(also: hang ten, it's Hydro-Man!)
Also, these vintage scans are what I got
where my ANAD Citizen V book, Dave
Onslaught was like the most 90s thing ever, yes
FUCK YEAH CITIZEN V
Those pauldrons are amazing
It's the 90s, everyone has a waist I'd kill to have
Yeah, after Bubverine have some mercy upon your livers
I realized that current Hawkeye's sunglass fetish reminds me too much of Mr. X :(
Yeah, I'm gonna have to wait for a sale, but then MINE MINE MINE
Oh yeah, didn't he kill someone with his fingernail clippings once?
...okay now I know what I'm running Christmas Eve or so
because he's comfortable enough in his masculinity
You know, I still had a happy smile on my face today when I thought about Mr. X getting his.
>sound generated wings
No matter how many times I see it, it never stops being funny. And again, sound is pink.
>Oh yeah, didn't he kill someone with his fingernail clippings once?
Ew. Just, ew.
I do love how Bagley draws Karla. Bitch has style.
Man, General Ross Thunderbolts was so...why, even with Soule
except for that one Acker/Blacker Annual that opened with Strange in his undies was pretty great
The narrative voice in this is so 90s and yet it's not ostentatiously overlapping the art because Busiek
Ah, Karla. It's nice to know she was always the supreme bitch.
Indeed, it's not bad. Kinda wish she kept it. The second Moonstone costume isn't terrible, but it's a touch bland. And that's coming from someone who usually prefers more simple designs.
Who would win in a HBIC contest between Karla and Dreamy?
Ummmm, it was something weird with Franklin Richards and Xavier, also IIRC it was one of those things where ONSLAUGHT! kept being mentioned before they had any idea what the fuck it even was, so, well
oh my god, look at this motherfucker
Something something Xavier. Something something Magneto. Something something psychic impression. Something something split personality. Something something psionic entity. Something something Scott Lobdell.
Was it like Apocalypse in just ambiguously being really powerful without actually declaring what its powers were?
Onslaught is sort of where I stopped reading comics as a young kid, and then I picked up Brit comics a few years later and eased myself back into American ones through British writers/artists who were getting American gigs. So I never read any Onslaught comics.
>Later, it was revealed that the Avengers and the Fantastic Four did not die, as had been surmised. Rather, the heroes were reborn in a pocket universe created by Franklin. The Avengers and the Fantastic Four returned to their rightful home months later, possessing only hazy memories of their time on Counter-Earth.
aka "we un-Liefelded everyone"
>Who would win in a HBIC contest between Karla and Dreamy?
Hm. I think I'd have to give it to Nura, honestly. Nura has more a mind for strategy, and clairvoyance beats flying brick 9/10 times.
Karla would hate her so much, too
it'd be glorious to watch, sell tickets
Like you've said before, Karla is the type of gal who probably just doesn't like other women.
Which is a shame because her and Melissa's clawing at each other all the time gets my yuri senses tingling something fierce
I think Karla would do it, but Melissa wouldn't
Xavier shut down Magneto's mind, and while doing that, the evil within Magneto entered Xavier which unleashed all of Xavier's repressed emotions which created Onslaught, the psychic projection of Xavier's repressed emotions combined with Magneto's evil.
Then X-man fought Xavier, pulling Xavier's psychic projection out of the astral plane and into the mortal plane in the process, something that Xavier didn't know was possible. In doing so, it subconsciously taught Onslaught how to exit the astral plane and take physical form. He proceeded to kidnap Franklin Richards and siphon his power to become exponentially more powerful.
>the twist happens in #1
Okay, good. For some reason I was afraid they had stretched it out over several issues.
>I think Karla would do it, but Melissa wouldn't
Yep. Again, bit of a shame that it will never happen.
all this flirting
never too late to read some Bolts
Karla has like zero boundaries so she probably would sleep with another woman if there was some point to it. But I don't think she has any natural inclination there.
One day I will win the lottery and force Marvel to accept my miniseries pitch where Songbird is Dazzler's bodyguard and Moonstone is the bitchy agent of a rival label trying to sabotage their intergalactic concerts.Dazzler will pick up Troll at a concert in Asgard who will join her crew. And they'll all be magical girls.
I know, right? When someone was minding the continuity at least a bit?
I have no problem with a book running and doing its own thing and not fitting into strict continuity with other books, especially team, but if you're gonna reference stuff, that's cool too. Internal consistency is obligatory.
And they'll all be magical girls.
.... I'd absolutely read this. No joke.
One question: Would there be at least one joke about Troll objecting to wearing frilly outfits?
be kind to yourself, anon
that's one fucking ugly memorial
she became Citizen V to get back at the Thunderbolts for fucking up her life, then became a heroine called Vantage, then started working for Commission on Superhuman Activities.More appearances than I'd thought she'd get.
Karla would spend every waking (hehehe) moment thinking of ways to kill Dreamy. But she would always lose, because Dreamy sees the future. Karla would probably end up having a nervous breakdown.
Pre-alpha female Melissa is a cutie. :3
I will never get why people have to make compressed vs decompressed a thing. Both have pros and cons.
But yeah, a premise like this needs to get the twist out quick. Be kinda boring otherwise.
it would have been better than that ASM 600 leaked storytime
Troll would probably have to wear some sort of cute bear costume at some point.
>One question: Would there be at least one joke about Troll objecting to wearing frilly outfits?
Only if there's another one where she makes sure's nobody's looking and proceeds to twirl.
the Baxter Building was really weird and gaudy at this time
Oh, that's right. Claremont, was it?
eagerly awaiting each page and tons of freakouts
The reader freakout for Tunderbolts was almost certainly huge, but I must wonder if there were some people who got pissed at the idea of some minor villains turning face.
>NOT MUH SCREAMING MIMI
>NOT MUH BEETLE
Can you imagine?
Reed Ms. Marvel was pretty unsubtle on Karla being a monster, too
>just happened to save Franklin Richards
>get to use the building as a headquarters
Gotta given the Baron some credit. Dude's a slick bastard.
>Karla likes being a good guy
Reed Ms. Marvel did give us some quality Sana Takeda, though. Daaaamn.
also, for epic fantasy in comics form, Monstress is way better at it than Arclight
It's okay, but it's better at doing the "setting up a world where you care about finding out what the fuck is going on" thing that drives the subgenre
Well yeah, the thing about villain teams that always screws them up is that a good chunk of the villains are just looters with freaky outfits, mixed in with wannabe world conquerors and thrillkillers.
So, considering all the complaints that Black Widow has become more bland since the movies, I'm guessing the films do not play up her ruthlessness that comes with being a spy?
Because if not, they really should.
It's more that she's all-spy all the time, as opposed to having been the goddamn leader of the Avengers
Well, the ruse wouldn't have worked with psychos and megalomaniacs. Zemo couldn't use anybody but the workman villains. Though, I can't for the life of me remember why he wanted Moonstone around after what she pulled during Avengers Under Siege.
One of the great parts about making D-List Villains into Heroes is their character is so barely established that they get most of their character development and attention while in the Thunderbolts.
Consequently, more fans of the time when they're reforming into heroes than when they were nobody villains.
Karla reliably self-serving enough to be predictable, and a powerhouse to boot. I can see why he'd be willing to have her around, although he should have seen her trying to undermine him coming.
>It's more that she's all-spy all the time, as opposed to having been the goddamn leader of the Avengers
That does sound boring. Why can't she be the leader, or at least second in command to Cap? She's one of only two main Avengers who seems in any way qualified for the job, honestly.
It's weird how often archvillains are willing to forgive backstabbers.
>sure, Starscream, I believe you've seen the error of your ways and will be totally loyal from now on, I hereby make you my second in command once more, welcome back
Whatever. If Marvel wants to deny their currently most publicly know female character a hook, that's their dumb prerogative.
And now you understand why so many yaoi fans insist that Megatron and Starscream are lovers.
They think they have a hook, it's just a simplified and boring one
but if anyone's willing to do more of her Avengers background, it's probably Waid
I think the deal with Starscream is:
>1) He's literally immortal so even if you don't rehire him he will come back and try to fuck with you
>2) He's a known quantity; at least with Starscream at your back you have some idea of how and why he's going to try and betray you
Plus he's one of the original crew of Megatron's supporters, and is usually portrayed as somewhat competent when on his own. I can see why he gets kept around. Armada Starscream a best though.
well shit, the folder DOES have that Spidey team up issue, I'll have to throw it in
At least "spy eternally seeking redemption for the red in her ledger" is more of a hook than "She's the best female superhero because she's female and a superhero! Look at this little kid saying she's the best female superhero! Love her!!!!!!!!"
So twitter tells me that Max Landis is butthurt about Rey, or something?
>innocent teenage girl who is the victim of, and gets powers from some evil organization
Jolt is pure Busiek, isn't she?
I agree with this entirely. Normally, you can;t discuss this kind of thing on 4chan, but that's why I have you lot.
I want more prominent and cool female characters in media, but I want them to be interesting characters too. Bland=/=Cool.
Didn't Remender UA have some Onslaught shenanigans?
It's because I wanted to read Thunderbolts, anon. If you want to read Dark Avengers, feel free to run it.
You know, it's easy to laugh about villains who do it FOR SCIENCE!!!, but every now and then we're remined of just how fucked up that is.
I think I see where Karla's keikaku is going. Sneaky bitch.
I had a person in class once argue that the ethical lines of experiments are difficult to define because "we learned a lot from the nazi experiments".
I'd never seen a professor double take before that
Your classmate wasn't wrong. It's a classic question: Where does one draw the line? How far can you go before it becomes wrong?
Still, I think it's safe to classify "kidnapping teenagers off the street and turning them into goo monsters against their will" as generally not okay.
yes, but what will it take to get through said four nights--four hangovers?
Oh, that is beautiful. I would've paid money to see that.
she's a quick thinker and a great spy, manipulator and martial artist, but for all the talk of the red room and her ledger and stuff, there's no scenes of her actually doing shit the other members are too squeamish for, or really letting loose and assassinating everyone in a room. The worst she did was manipulate Banner into liking her so that she could act as an emergency distraction should he run amock
They weren't heroes to start with, so that would have been an entirely different reaction than the issue 1 reveal. This whole Thunderbolts thing is still just a ruse to get in close with the national and global security agencies.
At her best, Moonstone is one of the best female anti-heroes in comics. Making her a straight-up murderer and psychopath ruins the delicate balance between self-interest, manipulative-ness, and flashes of heroism that make her such a great character in the Classic Thunderbolts.
Didn't Karla pick a guy up and drop him to his death after flying a few hundred feet in the air in Reed's run? All that run had going for it was the art. Acuna and Takeda in full cheese-cake mode.
Honestly my favorite Natasha is the one who's being a superhero because its better than being a dirtbag spy.
The problem with movie Natasha is that they never really show that desire, or much of anything. She's so cold I can't get into her, even when she was at her best in Winter Soldier.
Honestly movie Natasha hasn't earned it. Why SHOULD the morally ambiguous spy be put in a position of responsibility?
A Black Widow or SHIELD movie could answer that question but doesn't seem to be coming.
I'd really hate to see Zemo continue to backslide.
Thunderbolts put him in a really great and unique position in the Marvel U. He really is the anti-villain people like to pretend Doom is.
I think Moonstone isn't into chicks (and doesn't like other women because she likes being the only one), but she is into doing almost anything where she's in control, it fucks with someone else, and she can get something out of it.
>I am going to break you! I am going to keep you in the basement of Avengers Tower! Turn you into my pet!
Jolt was both Karla's moral compass and daughter-figure of sort.
That's why I think Karla would be a great addition to Kamala's cast as the local school psychologist or something.
>drove patients to suicide
>great addition as local school psychologist
but karla wants money and power, and someone above her to backstab.
Where would she find those things there?
Being a local school psychologist would be like being in prison for her, as well as way below her qualifications.
>but karla wants money and power, and someone above her to backstab.
No, she doesn't.
Well, not anymore. Sure, she's not going to turn down money and the possibility to influence people(power), but she's trying to be a good person.
She just doesn't know HOW. And her trying a second shot at being a mom with Kamala is quite in-character.
Yeah- the contrast is perfect: Carol is the "role model" distant and perfect, with her moral absolutes and shit.
Karla is the "example", jaded and even nihilistic or cynical but really practical.
And the Karla\Carol rivalry helps, too.
There is also the parallels Kamala idolizing Carol but learning from Karla, and Karla seeing a lot of Jolt in Kamala except Kamala has a stable support-base, friends and family.
This shit writes itself.
Need help stopping some evil corp from gentrifying your town? Karla will help out by punching some robots and stealing a ton of money from those fat cats!
I've wanted to see Karla in Kamala's Ms. Marvel since day-1.
Karla is more likely to use Kamala as moral compass.
You know, to avoid repeating the mistakes from Avengers\Thunderbolts.
She's more likely to exert some "grey" solution to a problem. I see Karla as something like Emma from Marvel Adventure Spider-man in this.
THAT I'd dig, or Kamala learning that Karla was using her for some scheme and just losing her shit.
If Moonstone's gonna be in Kamala's life, I feel like she should be the definition of "Do not grow up to be this.". We've GOT a morally ambiguous blond woman who gets away with murder in Marvel, her name's Emma Frost. You don't have to take all of the ambiguity away from Moonstone, but I don't think she should, ultimately, be a positive influence.
I think she should be Kamala's first real, honest to god rogue who fucks up Kamala's life.
