I've sent in the original already (its going to be printed) so I'd leave it as it is anyway. I tend to lean towards desaturated colors because bright colors give me a headache but I figured I'd try it anyway.

2015-12-18-01 david.jpg

Fourth character, a guy for a change. I'm kinda sad about it but I can't draw girls only can I.

David's calm and cool (if not somewhat cold) demeanor make him not stand out much despite his considerable posture. He's pretty serious about everything he does; it just happened that he didn't have much luck with magic potential, so he's more of a stand-in coach than a fighter.

The one problem I have with David is how do I make him interesting, his mullet aside. I know more or less what role he'll be playing, but I'm not sure if I'll manage to make him more than just an extra and a useful plot device. I'll have to tackle it when I start writing a detailed script, during Christmas most likely.

He's supposed to be pretty muscular. Not a bodybuilder, but a guy for whom you need only one look to tell he's working out. I'm having a lot of trouble with his hair, I still didn't figure out how to keep his current haircut while making it look less cartoony. Pictured with Keira (posted yesterday), total of 14 inches height difference.
>>
>>78273900
sweet mullet. he totally looks like a guy, and a handsome one.. if slightly piggyfaced, but only slightly. You should practice bigger more robust noses with stronger nosebridges on other guys. But this guy? we all knew a guy that looked like this guy.
btw nice under-chin shot on the girl holy shit. you're the only person i know that's better at that shot than a profile shot.
it's okay if you dont have a character idea yet, you're just drawing people. you'll think up ideas later. like "ha what if someone was the kinda guy who tells jokes poorly" or something.
you seem to be doing a fine job with the hair.. and the ears for that matter, so i don't see what the problem is. it doesn't look cartoony (imo not exaggerated enough. i mean hair can do anything)
as for muscles he looks merely mediumbeefy. you cuold try enlarging and widening the shoulders a bit
>>
>>78273900
he looks pretty young for a 48 year old

not saying it's impossible for 40+ year olds to look young but is that what you're going for?

I'm having a hard time telling what are genders of the characters. The fat guy is a guy, that one other who's been appearing the least is a guy too, but the other two look a whole lot like ugly girls. The cheek tumors you draw don't help either.

The story is such that I don't know where you're taking this. The insecurity, the band, the road trip, I get it, but the pace and focus are weird at times. It all feels like some kind of a dream, I can't imagine the fat guy hitting the road, I can't image him going with the weirdo that his self-proclaimed best friend is, I can't imagine them having a band. It's strange but maybe it will work out in the end. Link the whole thing again when you finish it all, please.

coloring this now, once this chapter of FATES is done im merging it with TRUE SAGA

so the FATES webcomic host site and its main mega website will be deleted and all content added to TRUE SAGA webcomic host site and mega website

oh shit and each one has its own sub reddit to, will also merge those together as well!

PASTEBIN OF ALL 6 FATES & TRUE SAGA SITES THAT WILL MERGE INTO JUST 2 MEGA WEBSITES: http://pastebin.com/PV0LjJfH

will also merge folders on deviant art, having over 4 separate projects is ridiculous and unnecessary, especially when DEMON JUICE and HAIR AND SOLE both take place in the same world and instead of having FATES take place on NIBIRUS moon i can just add the continent to NIBIRU and problem solved!

Fairune will become the new main character of the newly merged project I will probably rename into FATES SAGA

or FATES TRUE SAGA, i havent decided on what the new name will be but all the main characters of TRUE SAGA will become side characters and the main plot of TRUE SAGA will become a subplot that will evolve into the main plot of the merged fused together stories!

why make FAIRUNE the main character of the currently two separate projects?? Because blonde hair cowgirls are fucking awesome!!!!! its the being born and raised in Texas U-S-fucking-A i guess, lol

Not necessarily. As long as the song fits the character, or is something that the character would be inclined to like, it fits. If it so happens to be something the author also likes, then so be it. Obviously, there are very unfitting songs for various types of characters.

Mizu almost certainly rocks out to Initial D type metal while practicing swordery
Robin has no concept of genre and listens to anything upbeat. She has no idea there is anything else to Lola
Sasha probably goes to chill thumping 80s headbangery concerts played by goblins. kinda Big Pig style
Kimchi sticks with super melodic videogame soundtracks and TMBG stuff
Hel likes the more punk rock I imagine. Lords of Acid..
Fenrir likes vocaloid but will listen to whatever

The primary demographic of my comic is not the English speaking reader. I have been asked to release my comic in English, so I will. I know many English speaking readers from USA, EU, and Australia have issues with the way certain characters are portrayed. Say my character is in her 20s. Her story, her personality, obviously she is an adult. However, she has a petite build. When I see characters like this wearing revaling clothing, I often see many readers from the previously mentioned states attacking the artists for drawing an adult who may not have a typically "Adult" body in adult clothing. I also have a character who in my country is of age of consent, however I believe 18 is the adult age in many Western countries. She also wears adult clothing. The clothing I draw is not pornographic. It fashionable, I think. However, I think many of the characters Western readers attack are also fashionable, so I am worried. It would not be difficult for me to edit the clothing upon releasing the comic in English. My question is, should I censor my comic? Is this something I should even be considering? To translate a whole comic into my second language is a lot of time and work. I would love to do this if it would make people happy, but if I was to be attacked, I do not think I would like to release my comic in English any more. Sorry for my length in post.

Much of the Western world, particularly that of the American variety live in a part of the world that is geographically isolated from most of the rest of the world, save for its neighbors Canada and Mexico.
With that in mind, Americans often times consider that their paradigm, or the way they see the world, is the only way there is to see the world. Unlike in most European countries where they have spent centuries adjusting to eachother's cultures.

With that little anthropology lesson out of the way, keep in mind that your art is your own expression. Your expression can reflect your cultural values, that is not to say that you and your work are synonymous with your culture, but rather, are often seen as more acceptable.

At the end of the day, don't let yourself be censored by anyone. The moment you do that, is the moment you no longer create for yourself, but for others.

Your English is good by the way, I hope my English came through clearly.

like 90 percent that
and 10 percent like, banning an -image- of a crime is kinda retarded. We don't do that for any other crimes. If anything use the image to bust the people doing it. Bust the guy in front of the camera, not behind it. if there is no guy, then there's probably nothing illegal going on.
it's like busting drug users instead of dealers, or johns instead of prostitutes.. or prostitutes instead of johns. or whatever.
Or like France making it illegal to film happy slapping. legislators only do shit like this because it's easier than actually making a difference, and they can take credit for 'fighting crime'

classic space cops, showing up when it's too late, only to bust the good guy. just like in school.
heh, I like that gesture slowly shifting. I assume they don't actually, like, hack into your video system and demand you put your hands up.. it was just reflex right?
also neat the police lights in space are different.. though they don't quite seem consistent, but it's hard to tell with all that gas. Or do they cycle like one of those things you get from spencer's?

good for you. get back on that horse
>dialogue
I assume Bones should be capitalized. Otherwise it works fine
>speech bubbles
firstly you need more room around the words, especially bottom center panel. secondly I don't see the point in messy smudges around dialogue balloons that I guess are absent in singing balloons.. but maybe that's a thing. Like making capitalizing singing balloons is. but the music note is covering up part of the lyrics, you don't want that.
You also don't really want a progression of lyrics to be moving up and to the right.. though I realize you didn't wanna cover that lovely chandelier. It's not really bad, just not quite right.
if someone is interrupting someone, it's better and more fun to have their balloon actually overlap the one they're interrupting. try it!
text size is fine.. though it's a very.. how do you say, deferential font. Everyone looks extremely gentle when they use it. like an e-mail from gramma.

I have some other suggestions on your art though. I mean obviously it's kinda loose and I'm sure you're still working on it, and I can overlook stuff like the direction of the wrppings being inconsistent , but the characters seem to have a lot of lines on them that do nothing, and the first panel is almost all nearly the same (quite dark) shade of gray, which is sad because you drew in all this cool interesting shit we should be getting a good look at. I'd say up the contrast, use lighter grays
>>
>>78285552
Woah, holy artifacts. Anon, are you saving in the right image quality? That was a rhetorical question. I need you to start saving in the right format. You're putting all of this effort into a page, it's a shame to see it with all of these artifacts.

As for the speech bubbles, either up the size of the bubble or down the size of the font. The font the song is in looks great. I'd recommend using that font instead of your current one, but that's a purely artistic choice. Right now the biggest problem is the size of the font and the bubbles are not proportional.

It made me laugh at least. I liked it.

no seriously I can't believe you have a cintiq. that is amazing. but does it not have some kind of calibration so you can make it the same as a normal monitor?

I noticed the candle on the table has rrl bad perspective, so just one more thing to fix. Start with the plane of the table as your guide (not that it's perfect but whatever fuckit) and make the circle match that plane. then make another circle of the same orientation, smaller, below it for the bottom. then do your lovely crisscrossies so they match, that should be doable.

I need name help. I have two potential first names: one would be the name, the other would be a held title. There's Fay'd (pronounced Fai-eed, with the 'd' sound being very soft) and Rah've (pronounced Rah-hay). Last name is Alfercion (pronounced Al-Fay-cei-on). So which sounds better: Fay'd Alfercion or Rah've Alfercion
>>
>>78286110
hoo boy
anon can you maybe explain your name selection process? and the fundamentals of the orthography your fictional language uses? and why you made it that way? I feel like we would get to the root of the issue by you answering that
>>
>>78286281
The main problem with that is I'm essentially working backwards. The sounds just hit me and now I have to retroactively have them make sense. So in short, there is no orthography at the moment.
>>
>>78286324
This being said, the idea that hit me with Fay'd is that it's an ancient name that has become a general term, kind of like Benedict Arnold, but not negative like that. Closest English word I can equate it to is judge, but it also implies balance and correcting past mistakes. So that would probably be the given title. Sorry I didn't remember that at first; none of this is written down and details come in and out.

Here's a couple of mine, for different stories.

Throughout the whole story, the good guys think they're doing the right thing. But, it turns out they were being manipulated by the "good forces" they were helping. The bad guys were trying to prevent them from doing something that could potentially enslave or exterminate the human race.

One of the main characters has to kill the younger companion of the group at the end.

This month shows the effects of my advertising discontinuation. My advertising was a trickle for the first week or so, and after that it's been totally stopped.

I'm comparing this month's performance so far to September, when the comic officially launched and there was zero advertising, to more or less show the net increase in readers after my advertising campaign finished. I'll probably do some more advertising after issue 2 is finished.

Looking good. Definitely up from the beginning but that's to be expected.

What do you advertise through? I would recommend Project Wonderful. I'm doing a cheap bidding campaign where it autobids 1 cent and for 3 dollars over the course of 1 week I've gotten 138 views. That's pretty good considering the limitations of where I can advertise. When I was really splurging I was raking in hundreds of views a day. Had to stop that and I'm okay with the way it is.

Also, maybe think about posting the old pages on Comic Fury and have a link to your site on each page and mention it. That's tapping into another market.

I've also been reading about doing so on reddit. And I post announcements on tumblr and tag my stuff.

I'll be posting mine in a bit.

>>
>>78292272

I only spent the amount of money I spent because of my job's Christmas bonus. The campaigns are nice and I admit that I have spent too much time looking at the rate of money I make from my ads as well as how many clicks I get from advertising as well as the cost per click that is also shown. I refresh my account overview every 10 - 15 minutes.

Right now I'm exploring free methods of advertisement. I did a bit of SEO but that stuff is tedious and boring so I'll have to come back to that later.

Alright stats time! As always, from top to bottom:

>main site
>deviants
>super sexy

So, this looks bad at first glance but those massive spikes are when I advertised out the ass. Then things died down as I lessened advertising. The last two weeks are me without spending more than 50 cents on advertising a day. Also my artist for Deviants normally posts a link on update days on her facebook page. However she's forgotten a couple times. Last week was one of them.

But that's okay because the turnout was good. And the /ss/ interest grows each week. Shame because I'm cancelling Super Sexy but relaunching it as something else. It's for the best.

But my stuff is getting reblogged on tumblr. There's still growth and the decline is mostly because I'm not spending any actual money promoting the comic.

Several written stories that will probably never be drawn:
-X was actually evil and it was all according to their plan.
-X lost the dance battle but Y wins the next one because their signature song hinted at throughout the story is played.
-The assassin was a time traveler sent to fix the future destroyed by a main character's actions.
-Everything was set to loop because aliens are coming to fuck shit up, X was really a bad guy, knowing this Y loops everything again.
-X was the anti-christ.

That still looks pretty good, though. Some of the lines might be a little too blurred, but I think what's really working for you here are the varied line weights and the color variance in the lines, rather than having them all pitch black and the same thickness. I like the shading as well.

Perhaps try reducing the smudge a little and doing an entire page in this style? It could turn out pretty nice.

I'd also suggest switching fonts in your dialogue. Something simpler, more streamlined would be a strong choice.

The art looks pretty consistent and I like the details. However, pay attention to paneling. Panels 1 and 4 are now the largest, while they're not as important as the other panels. Panel 3 is what interests the reader the most and panel 4 compliments this info. "Where we are, what's this setting?" Panel 5 tells us that something big is happening, so it could be larger.

You made panel 1 the biggest, but the readers area just gonna skim over it since there's not much going on in there compared to panel 2. Panel 4 shows us the MC, that she's worried and that she's in cuffs. This info can be conveyed with smaller panel. You're showing off her body, yet there's not much to see as we already know her and she's not making any specific pose.

Keep rethinking and playing around with the panels. But I must say, this looks pretty promising.

I should probably mention however, that the reason the piece isn't filling out all the page is because its being created for print.
If you take a look at my work space here, the area outside of that blue line is called the "gutter," which is the part of the paper which is likely to be omitted during the printing process. The size of panel one may be throwing you off because it is so large compared to the rest of the panels, but that is solely for the purpose of setting up the establishing shot and eliminating the borders set by a panel so that the reader can feel immersed in the world being presented.
True, there isn't a lot of stuff there, but I feel that it does accomplish the purpose of telling us that the scene has changed from the previous one, and that we are on a different planet.
>>
>>78300363
i've never understood why they can't just print things exactly as they are. why do they need 'extra' space? it's not as if the printing process is unpredictable and you have to leave that space 'just in case' right? surely not in this day and age.. it's precise.

In printing, the space where the two pages come together into the binding crease together. In fact, there is a certain point in the paper that completely disappears because the pages are bound together.

The Crease is where the page is completely unseen
The Margin is the space between the content and the crease. There is often times space between them for aesthetic purposes.

Despite our technological advances, printing machines are not psychic and don't know where we want the page to stop and where we want it to end, to a printer, its all just black and white information. (Literally)

Hope this helps.
>>
>>78300733
yeah the crease i get, but surely that only requires one side of each page to have space left. The rest could run right up to the edge without problem
i guess you'd wanna do it on both sides of every page just so you didn't have to redo the files when you add one page, you never know if page 1 is going to be an inny or an outty til it's done I suppose... but it shouldnt need entire margins

>Post their design
>Post their origins
>Post their personality.
>>
>>78300867
Thats true, but often times in the business theres so much need for edits and revisions, adding and omitting different pages, so on and so forth. Keeping both sides makes the whole process much easier in the long run. Go grab one of your mangas (Don't lie, you have at least one) Notice how the page on the inside seem to have little to no margin, while the outside has more.
Not all of course, some manga artists go into painstaking foresight and detail to expand on the outside of the page. Japanese artists are crazy awesome like that.

After much self debate and with a heavy heart its time i delete TRUE SAGA and merge it with FATES. The tittle of FATES will not change and TRUE SAGA may be used as a chapter tittle in the near future as a nice easter egg for anyone online who will remember it used to be its own comic.

So with that being said all finished chapters will be integrated into the FATES story, all artwork, fan art and everything else on the TRUE SAGA blog/website will be transferred over to the FATES website.

All I need to do is remake the chapter covers and can start the re-upload process...

Here is the merged map of the newly combined world maps from each story.

*I made this in sketchbook pro, animated in flash cs5

**ive been working on TRUE SAGA since i was a kid in elementary school, i will still be working on it and with all the characters ive made up and had my whole life to draw and use in random story archs and adventures... BUT IT WONT BE CALLED TRUE SAGA

i looked at the stats on both comic fury and there min hib site and FATES got more popular than TRUE SAGA did, plus even though i came up with it first, SAGA is already a comic and FATES as far as i know isnt used in any comic title, so this is the best option i decided...

>it's not as if the printing process is unpredictable and you have to leave that space 'just in case' right?

Paper can shift over the course of printing many copies, so what would have been printed neatly up to the edge can end up having a gap.

In >>78300733, panel one is bleeding over the edge (full bleed). The blue marks in the corners indicate the trim (where the page will be cut) and the bleed (what will get cut off). Inside the blue box is the live area, which is safe. Anything close to the trim lines risks getting cut off.

The "Warksin" caption will need to be moved closer in to the live area, or it's going to disappear into the crease and/or be trimmed.

On the right was the content hornscar said to once be a single continent be made into separate ones when the warrior god broke the dragon gods horn off with a hammer in an epic fight in the heavens, hurling the dragons horn to nibiru and shattering the continent into several pieces.

For things like remastered editions of old comics (like the Fantagraphics Complete Peanuts collections), they have to make new files sourced from original artwork where possible, or the highest quality printed material they can find.

Anyone working with the intention of having their work printed should take into account live areas, margins, trims and bleeds.

I debated asking this here for a while but I'm gonna get the most honest answer and the fastest answer here so what the hell

I'm one of two brown dudes writing a webcomic that, because of its location and themes just made sense to give a mostly black and brown cast. We hadn't thought much about it until recently, when my co-writer expressed concern that producing a webcomic with a mostly black main cast will mean most readers will write us off as a "black webcomic" (or worse, a "pandering" "SJW" webcomic) which will severely limit our demographics. He says we should probably change the main character from a black chick to a white chick for the sake of marketing to a wider audience.

Is this a legitimate concern or just us being paranoid about internet culture stuff. Are there enough people who would give a shit if an action comic starred a white chick instead of a black chick to actually make a difference in viewership?
>>
>>78303112
putting a single black guy in for no reason is SJW pandering,
having an entire cast of them is just a setting.

putting in a token white chick for the main character and leaving the rest of the comic as detroit is basically the worst of both worlds. don't do that. just show it right away so it's not surprising the kind of guy that might stroll down a street in nairobi wondering what's with all the minorities
>>
>>78303177
er, and in case the unsaid was unduly left out
'a setting' is a good thing
and 'show it right away' means show the setting is pretty melanin-heavy right away. in some establishing shot
>>
>>78301545
>>78301982

All right, synopsis it is.

The story takes place in a fictitious realm where there is no royal line. Rather, the different noble families vote for one family to be the central authority until the Regent dies and another one is voted among the nobles. Typically, this goes to the strongest family. An inheritance problem arises when the heir-apparent of the major family dies and rival families no longer want to back the major family - and the major family no longer wants to compromise with its former allies, as well.

Because titles pass by male lineage and the alliance fell apart, the backup heir-apparent (who had essentially abdicated to the previous heir-apparent) is forced to marry a bastard half-sibling who had been kept in hiding all of her life. The first "act" serves to introduce all of the major characters, establish the relationship between the couple, and provide information on the realm itself - e.g. society, religion, politics, and so forth. Politics and court intrigue also occur, as well as military buildup when a civil war is anticipated.

The rest of the chapters get more interesting by delving into the fluctuating relationships between the heir and his wife, as well as the civil war that follows. I have way more content than just that, but I'd rather not share it at the moment. It's a low fantasy setting and there is some magic, but it's sparing, considered hogwash by almost everyone, and doesn't even play a part until later on in the story.

The male protagonist is a PTSD-ridden militarist and the female protagonist is a tortured victim of circumstance, and the relationship is really toxic.

The world building is something that I've been slowly chipping away at for three years.
>>
>>78303240
sounds pretty boring as-is, but obviously you wouldnt be writing a story about whateverocracy (i'm sure there's a word for very limited elections like that) if you didnt know a lot about it and were able to make it interesting, so i'm sure you'll do fine
>>
>>78303112
I feel in this day and age a black protagonist is something that you needn't worry too much about so long as you don't make the fact that he's black a predominant characteristic.
Assuming you're American, African American comic readers are not uncommon. What is your story about? Are the themes something that are common and relatable issue for urban youth? If so, then your demographics may likely be urban youth. (That is not to say that all urban youths are black, but they do make up the majority.)

I feel if you handle the story writing and plot the right way, it can be enjoyed by all demographics. I'd say shoot for something like Boondocks, or even better, surpass it.

I'm a dedicated /pol/lack, but that shit doesn't bother me.

Aaron McGruder almost always uses exclusively black casts, yet I love Boondocks and Black Jesus. It's better that a black guy make a comic about black guys than a black guy bitch at a white guy to make one, which to me is probably one of the most annoying things SJWs do. Frankly I think that kind of paranoia instilled in you comes from the leftarded desire of SJW-types to have house niggers dependent on their "love and support" given that a white person that doesn't want to read about black people also isn't going to waste time bitching about it either.

As to your consideration about changing the character's race if anything you'd get more flak from /pol/ for having a white chick surrounded by black characters given that it's become so prevalent in popular media nowadays.

Either way do whatever the fuck you want and don't apologize for it. I have more respect for people that go full Trump than for people that constantly and consistently worry about how things are received by others.

I'm also a /pol/ack and having a black character in your fiction is only a problem if it's obviously a token black guy, or pandering to the SJWs. If you want to have a black guy, just try your best not to come of as "hurr durr look at have a brown person!"

Aaron McGruder is actually loved by /pol/ because he's not a fucking idiot and he calls it like he sees it. If you want to include themes of racial tension in the United States, just be realistic about it and don't make it one huge sob story.

Whatever the fuck you do, DO NOT bow to SJWs or anyone trying to tell you what to do. It's your project, your IP, and ultimately something that YOU control. Just don't remember to be morally gray because that's how reality really is.

Unless it's just a black chick as a character. Then just roll with it, bro.

>>78303490

In a way I would say that you're correct, but the story delves more into the relationships than political theory or descriptions. I probably just sound dry there because backdrop. A more accurate tl;dr would be that it's about a forced noble marriage and the war that ensues because of it.

All this talk about urban youth and black characters makes me realize just how "white" I talk.

I find that even when people are anonymous, we can kind of tell who is who based on how their posts are written.

For instance, I always address whoever I'm talking to with a noun or some other noun (anon, my friend, my good man), and they always sound prim and professional. Like a sleazy businessman. =u=

Why thank you my good man. [fedora tipping monitors at maximum]

Honestly, I didnt always talk/ type like this. I feel like it's something I've grown into. Most likely because its a way of speaking I've developed to impress old people. In New Jersey, where I live, or at least around the Shore area, most of the arts and culture societies are run by people in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. I tend to manipulate the way I speak to make who I'm speaking with more comfortable, and old people like that retrospeak. I guess it makes them think back to figures of responsible positions back in their days of yore.

Or I could be totally overanalyzing this, who knows.

My numbers are higher from before I started advertising. But as time goes on I'm advertising less and that's for the decline. But there's plenty of indications that my views are going up. And as for the drop in Deviants this week from the past is that my artist forgot to post on FB which is the reason for the usual boost but it's still fairly good.

So this is what I'm getting without the boosts, which is significantly higher than before advertising. I've compared the pre-ads stats, they're nonexistent. It's still early but I assure you things are looking good. I just have to be patient since I'm not throwing money at advertising this.

Also my Hentai Saturday was a big hit this week, better turnout and the announcement posts on tumblr are getting reblogged. I also need to tap the Spanish speaking market since that's what most of my artist's FB followers are. She even told me they can't read it but look at it for the nudity and sex.

Indeed, but go take another look at them
I'm willing to bet they either only have a THICK thick line on the outside like butch hartman cartoons, or they use a much simpler style with very few details, like The Sorcerer's Nuisance. You put in tons of lines and detail, so thick lines for that is not a good idea.

>>78306529
Sounds a little like Welcome to the NHK.
I'd say try to find a way to hit the relationship just right. Like, maybe hit some Leon the Professional vibes.

Man is critically depressed, meets a little girl who is able to straight talk him about issues because she's not clouded by the adult bullshit of moral ambiguity; she has a "do this and see what happens, it is better than doing nothing" mentality.

But maybe she's like this because her parents went through a divorce. Her mother uses her as a pawn, her dad treats her like a friend; and she just can't take adults seriously. They all play people, so she sees the MC less as another manipulator but another person who gets played.

Maybe put them in a shitty apartment building in like, Baltimore. Maybe have other people actually think something untoward is happening but they're just having very innocent but adult conversations about the ennui and nature of being in the 21st century.

Like you could do some very good duo conversation comics with the two of them at the park talking about how feeding the birds bread is bad for them. Or seeing her locked out of her apartment because her dad isn't home yet, so they just sit on the floor and talk about alcohol.

Maybe he is asked to babysit once to cover for a parent and now he's in a position of power but doesn't get it. He views his life as a mess, she doesn't; and they get a little antagonistic because maybe he's another fake. But then you transition into how even if things look good on the surface they can just rot underneath.

There's a lot of potential here if you can hit this up right and make the relationship genuine and sad in how necessary and broken they are even if they don't look it or get to voice it.
>>
>>78306602
>>78306894
Yeah, I guess I can cut down on the thickness/detail.

Except for this comic, because, you know, it'a a more intense moment.
>>
>>78306998

Great advice, since I have some free time, I'm going to try and brainwash of how I want to this work out.

I'm still a shit artist but I'm gonna try and make some rough drafts of the characters and a mini strip of the comic.

Off of the top of my head (and how I had these ideas in my skull forever), the depressed man will be named "Chuck" and the little girl will be named "Pammy"

I'm planning to call it "My Good Pal Pammy"
>>
>>78307131
that or "Therapammy". that's terrible. don't listen to me.

>>78307186
Wait on a title, just work on your art and your writing. Because you're going to get shit writing this just because of the dynamic, so if the writing isn't aces you're walking into a mine field without purpose. Plus if you have a title for it, people will remember you for that (warts and all) when you eventually try to do something native.

I'd suggest maybe looking into like, The Life & Times of Tim for some good writing. Leon/NHK are good for trying to hit dynamic and maybe getting some tension/cringe out of it.

Find a good area that's shitty, which is why I suggested Baltimore. A place that has that duality of depression; of being alive but barren of substance, or filled with integrity but unable to break through the corpse it was buried in. You don't ever have to namedrop it, but having set locations work.

Try to hit up conversation on generation differences without going all kids these days. Like, I remember growing up and feeding ducks old bread. That's bad for them, we know this now, kids know this now; and thus our cherished memories are sort of about choking ducks with sweet gluteny death. Alcohol as a solution to having to feel problemed, but being a problem all its own when you just have it as a constant numbing device. How TV is devoid of meaning now, even though all Chuck can show from his DVD collection are shows about toxic families and toy commercials.

And don't make it judgey. Just sort of "And that's kind of why I feel hollow inside. My treasured memories and nostalgia are poisoned. I'm too old to make new friends, I'm too old to make new memories, I'm too stuck in a rut to even consider leaving it because the outside is as scary as the pit but at least I know my pit."
>>
>>78307540
>bread is bad for ducks
bulllllshit. I just looked it up and theyre like "Feed them rice or corn instead" and give no reason why
"bread basically has no nutritional value" my fucking ass. it's only a staple. literally the same molecules as other grains. now i'll admit I don't know what ducks eat, but I know carbohydrate is a pretty fucking universal energy source for anything other than an obligate carnivore.
this is just more michelle obama bullshit. knockin' down mah food pyramid.. which wasn't even that welcome in the first place as it knocked down muh 4 food groups. which wasn't evne necessary to begin with
>>
>>78307663
That was just an example, it can also cause angel wing which isn't a great situation for ducks to be in. Rice, split corn and peas are better because they provide more nutrition than white bread.

But it's just an example, and a potentially good one. "You shouldn't feed bread to ducks. It makes it harder for them to fly and get nutrients."
"That's bullshit. Carbohydrates are pretty universal energy sources for anything that isn't a strict carnivore."
"You're supposed to feed them rice, cracked corn and peas."
"Because that's better?"
"A can of that costs the same as a loaf of wonderbread."
"I don't really go to the store thinking about feeding ducks."

Or whatever.

Is there any examples of an asshole arrogant prick main character done right, or at least appealing?
I'm afraid people will be put off by my main character before he has the chance to even out later in the story as his character grows.
Basically, my story revolves around a prince who loses both parents as a baby and so throughout his entire childhood he has to prove himself as a leader so that neighboring kingdoms will not be given his kingdom. He has a foil in a level headed child seer who is spiritually tied to the prince and teaches him to trust others.
Or should I just make the more level headed seer character the main character instead and shift focus onto the arrogant character once he has a change of heart?

and the fact that these people are giving out dozens of reasons not to do it is all the more reason not to listen to any of them.

.. that said i'd be fine with us just changing the habit so we start feeding them something more akin to what ducks eat.. which.. I still don't know. It's not fish, it can't be seaweed, but it's something in water and those are the only two things i know in water.. and one of those is only in salt water so it can't be that.
i mean, they eat worms sometimes right? but it's not like we have a nice supply of annelids to toss into ponds for ducks.

I actually finished a page on time. It's been a while, but this page is a week early. I'm going to upload it tomorrow since the past few updates have been so late.

Hopefully I can get back to my two week update schedule. Or maybe once a week, if I can handle it. There's not really much going on in this page, so that's probably why I finished so soon.

Find someone who is fluent in Spanish. You've got money, you can commission a translator.

I'm lucky that my artist is bilingual so if I ever want my comic and posts translated into Spanish it'll be no problem.

The artist speaks Spanish and she said she would translate the pages but if I wanted to do bilingual posts I'd want to be able to on my own and without waiting.

Woah, okay. I'm pretty nervous about posting here because you guys are great artists/writers, but here goes.

I started a webcomic about two weeks ago called, The Diary of Oscar Rose. It's a science fiction tale about a scientist pushed farther and farther into unethical territory and his battle with morality. There's a lot there about the self, decisions, order, authority, religion, etc.

It's not a webcomic in the sense of panels and kooky jokes, it's more text based with scribbles and raw insights.

I'm a part of the webcomic chat on Skype, so if you're on that, say hi.

Thanks, everyone.

The Diary of Oscar Rose can be read here - www.thediaryofoscarrose.com

Writing needs to be stronger. Oscar Rose sounds like a mid 20s man with a weak personality. I've only read the most recent update, so I'm not sure if that's what you intended, but since he has high end clearance and funding I'm inferring that you wanted him to sound more capable and intelligent. There are a lot of things I want to point out since this was an interesting premise, but I have no time. Here is one example though:

>I'm becoming a monster
Spelling it out like that makes him flimsy, as if this is a label he chose for himself. I'm sure you've read posts on 4chan where self diagnosed sociopaths talk about how crazy they are right? Self applied labels sound fake and forced. The subtle way you insinuated his slow descent into callousness in the previous paragraph was good. Then when you spelled it out, it just ruined the buildup.

It feels like this is a diary written by YOU, not a brilliant scientist named Oscar Rose.

One of my characters has a high functioning alcoholic for a mother. Hey guys. My gf's got me a graphic tablet for Christmas (we basically can't be together during the holidays), and although I love comic writing and drawing I never really got interested in them. It's a Huion 1060 Plus. Is it any good for comics? What are good programs to help me doing my comics on the computer? I'd really appreciate any answer
>>
>>78324897
huion is basically monoprice. Good stuff, easy to get replacement pens for, low price. You can draw just fine with it. also the one you got is a quite decent size, just about the second largest size around.
For programs you should get mangastudio / clipstudio. it's on sale all the damn time and it's pretty cheap even when it's not on sale.
Just don't be surprised if it takes you a while to get used to drawing on a tablet (sounds like it's your first one). It gets easier with practice.

I've got one with my previous work, Judgement, around four months in since I started hosting it. It was made by a friend, but I was Jensen it with a smile.

My current work got a few I think, but the majority of what I got were secret santas on Smackjeeves, art trades, and I've got some here as part of the thread activity.

I also ended chapter one with a guest strip I asked for to a fellow artist, and the second chapter ended with a strip made by a friend. The current chapter will have a guest artist too, a friends on the webs, but I'm commissioning it to help her start a commissions account on Tumblr.

>>
>>78329610
honestly, poses like this vex me when I try to draw them. Things where you basically need the elbows to get the fuck out of the way, and the upper arms to vanish from existence
I try doing it myself and I realize you CAN'T do it with your elbows touching your sides (which you always would because we just do even though it'd be easier to lift the whole arms up) unless you bend your shoulders and neck down.. and guess what I'm completely unused to drawing articulating?

A comic that's mostly just some text and some excuse drawings.. nothing to spoil really.. you know what that means, time to share a WIP with you guys

This is kinda short and I don't think there's much of a punchline. My plan is to knit it with another short idea to make a slightly longer one (another two rows) but THAT idea doesn't really have much of a punchline either, it's just some silly fun (and more visual to offset this verbosity). what do you guys think?

Look up successful styles and copy them.
>>
>>78334926
Experiment and look at what other people have done.

Here's some points to consider:
Realism vs symbolism/cartoonism: More realistic art might make the story hit harder, but conversely, more symbolic stuff can make it easier to relate to a character because it feels more like an everyman (Scott McCloud explains it better, http://scottmccloud.com/4-inventions/triangle/index.html).

What kind of story are you telling?
A comic about sword fighting won't work too well if your characters' arms aren't long enough to reach over their heads and hold their swords dramatically - a drama with a main cast of 50 characters won't be able to get away with super simplified faces that lack emotive ability and all look the same. If it's about a setting, you will need to draw a shit ton of backgrounds.

How much time do you want to spend on each page? A super decompressed story might benefit more from faster updates than from super high quality art (but on the other hand, anyone coming across your comic later on will only care about the finished product).

Is there some specific audience you want to attract? What do they like?
