I'm assuming you haven't read RID in awhile? I'm in a typing mood, so you're in luck. Long answer short: The Cons are kinda like WWII Japanese veterans, IF they were still super pissed at America for what they did/winning the war. They're kinda getting back together cause they are all paranoid that the Autobots/Starscream/Nails(to some small extent) will come after them and just get rid of them so Cybertron is just all "happy" and "fair" Autobots. Galvatron isn't helping with stirring the pot and hitting the beehive with a stick. He's just doing it cause he'll forever be cra-cra and a war lord. No peace times for him. Plus you have nuturals that are praising Optimus (and other Primes) as Demi-Gods and telling others to devote themselves to him. This would freak out Japanese vets if suddenly Americas came to Japan and started preaching the word of President Truman.
In the latest issue we find out that Track and Needlenose (who I swear gets gayer every issue he shows up in. I mean he created art with TRACKS before the war for crying out load. Anyway.) have a fight in an illegal bar full of ex-cons. Tracks says why are you Con's gathering in secrete. Needlenose says its cause they can't gather in public cause they'll freak out Starscream/Bumblebee and other Autobots. So it's kinda like a back and forth thing. Most of the violent ex-cons who don't have anything else going on in their dull lives are all for having a war again. It's all a very tense situation.

As for their insignais, that's just a personal choice. Some took theirs off, some people have it as a status symbol. Like, look at me, I severed in the war, I'm cool. I guess Starscream had to take his off since he's in charge now, and he can't just have the "bad guys" icon on him while he does it. Swerve in MTMTE didn't have his Autobot one on for a long time until Magnus bugged him about it. Then he put it on his crotch.

If you made Wingblade into a cartoon, that would have been interesting casue they could have had some really cool shots, tones of voices, and other cut aways that would try to mislead you in the whole mystery.
Comic wise, you can only do so much to bash it into the readers head that they are supposed to be reading it THIS way and not THAT way. You knew who the murderer was right away. Simple writing had to make you feel like you figured it out. Oh? It was Chromia? Shocker.

Its why TFA would have made a boring comic book. My point can be proven if you read the Jet Twins backstory. It was very serious and kinda dull. But put them on the screen and it turns into something else.

Nexus Prime used both the terminus blade & the starsaber to stop the destruction that Skeletor Magnus caused with the terminus blade. The draft is also really hilarious with deaths. Tons of points have deaths for both fractions, but no one is named.

Hell, there's a sequence where Sunstreaker and Hound are sniping off Decepticon invaders legs, while Bluestreak uses a beam saber to cut Thundercracker in half. Thundercracker is not mentioned again until the fight with "Ingestor", but you'd assumed he died when he got sliced in half.

Forgot to mention that Dirge is made super important in the draft (to the point he's treated as if he was more important than Starscream). He also gets his ass kicked a lot.
