We get it, flesh is spooky!
>>
>>78172459
Not necessarily spooky.

Its what conclusions Robot draws from all of this new data that people are worried about.
>>
>>78172443
>Robot learns about pain and what it can do to the brain.
Uh-oh.
>>
>>78172479
Eh...it could go either way.

There's two schools of thought on the matter. Worst case scenario, the machine granted too much acts like a machine with an unforseen variable and goes to the most extreme reaction.
The second, the machine is no longer a machine and has an epiphany that leads it to become human, either with or without a soul depending on what kind of fiction it is. Some go even further by saying that despite lacking a soul they are human in every single way, including sense of morality and simply lack an eternal presence.

It's unclear where Robot is going with this. I lean towards the latter, but fiction has conditioned us to think any AI other than R2-D2 that gains self-awareness and freedom goes insane or is forced into becoming Hitler by Marvel Comics-style civilian humans.
>>
>>78172479
I think the conclusion is obvious.
>>
>>78172443
Jesus Christ Tom! Robot has a hard time getting use to biology. We get it already! Move on!!!!!

>>

this storyline is so slow and boring that I'm shocked Jones isnt in it.
>>
Ya'll are some ADHD type nigga chilluns here.

We get it, the fact that the comic isn't over in five minutes or less makes your brains hurt, but at least Tom can finish a section of the plot over the course of several months and not actual goddamn years.
>>
>>78172570
There's been at least three typos in the last month. Is Tom ok?
>>
>>78172443
Why would you give a robot the ability to feel pain? That seems like the worst idea ever?
>>
I think i hate you guys
>>
>>78172699
He has fleshy parts not that can be damaged so it's be useful to know when he's fucked himself up. It sucks that he has to process it the same as people though. Maybe Kay will fix that in the next update.
>>
>>78172443
was this page really necessary? did we really need to see the same thing we just saw like two pages ago and to tell us what we already know? is Tom drunk?
>>
So what did he mean by this?

He's saying it feels extremely painful.

There's something sinister about giving a robot the ability to feel pain. I can only assume this will be taken to the logical conclusion of robot procreation, which I also think is a bad idea.

Who do you think would win in a fight between Kat vs Hank Pym? Who could build the better robot? Who would be cuter? Who would win a merciless lover-Beating contest?
>>
I really need to get a friend to read this. I am so sick of you dumb faggots. Why do you even read this comic? All you want is everything to happen in one fucking page, you always want the next arc. God dammit you guys suck, even the reddit and tumblr conversations are better than you guys. Fucking 5 pages of content and you're like "WHEN DOES NAMEK END GUYS." This comic clearly isn't for you. Annie isn't gonna light fucking everything on fire, Reynard isn't gonna murder Tony, fuck off with your hype-train bullshit you're all so fucking stupid. I'm dying of salt poisoning right now.

That doesn't sound fun at all. That sounds like the complete opposite of fun: edgy.

Could lead to empathy. Or give a manipulative nature, as the machine begins to understand the concept of negative reinforcement.

Considering all we've seen is Robot attempting to give deep meaning to every single thing relating to organics, it could mean anything from giving him an understanding of sin to coming to fathom how organics have a deeper connection to nature through their enhanced connection to the world around them.

In the latter sense, Robot could come to see humans as traditional media Elves, or even possibly as Fey beings.
>>
>>78172479

Robot is contemplating the sensation of pain, and what it means to meatbags.

Like tears in rain. Actually a good comparison I think, as Blade Runner didn't do very well because it was billed as an action movie and was far more emotional and introspective than what the rather bored audience went in wanting.

Kat has broken barriers nobody has in Marvel yet.

>>
>>78172443
jeez robot how melodramatic
>>
>>78173578
It's been becoming less and less "childishly anime" as it's progressed. The story and content has become more complex and the characters more aware of themselves and others, it's been moving away from the laughable cliches and "tropes" that initially purely defined it, and the mysteries and mystical elements are themselves the lifeblood of any good story. If anything, the resolution of certain mysteries has proven to the detriment of the story, not its benefit. Your complaints are bizarre and backwards -- it's more likely that your perception of the story has changed than the actual quality of it.
>>
>>78173356

Doctor Doom.
A particular run everyone likes to forget happened.

Doom, in his quest to save his mother's soul from Mephisto (during one of those comics when Mephisto is actually portrayed as the devil rather than some crazy alien with a devil fetish or some powerful cosmic force that the myth of the devil came from) he romanced a woman, then wore her skin over his armor to protect himself when he went into Mephisto's realm. Pic related.

To top it off? She's his childhood love, Valeria. At the time described as the only woman he could ever truly love.

Oh, and years later when Sue was going to die in childbirth with her and Reed's second child, Doom saved their lives and rubbed Reed's face in it after Sue agreed to name that child "Valeria".

Comics, everybody.

Doom is one of those characters where their entire history makes no sense if taken as the actions of a single man, allowing you to cherry pick their canon as the greatest of heroes or the darkest of jackasses.

One run, he just arbitrarily walks into the homes of peasants and exercises his right to every Latverian woman on the daughter of the household. Another, he's literally free of sin.
In one, he'll be ready to sacrifice reality itself merely for his own pride. In another, he'll sacrifice himself to a fate worse than death to save humanity.
He'll be the father to a peaceful nation and present fascism in a positive light in a way Judge Dredd (literally created around the concept of "what kind of world would fascism be a good thing in?") can't even come close to, then he'll be a complete maniac with no idea how to run a nation.

>Remember when this webcomic actually use to be a Fun story about cute girls going on fun adventures?

You remember when those cute girls started showing up with DEVOURING WELLS OF DARKNESS instead of eyes?

When the main character survived a serious murder attempt in the very first adventure?

When the main character utterly and permanently enslaved her attacker, using such torture techniques as sensory deprivation to shatter his will?

Remember when the entire cast fell into a horrific alternate reality and only escaped at the price of their very sanity?

Remember when the Laughing God mind-raped his chief and most faithful minion into something he thought would please the main character a little more?

Remember when he then provoked said minion into a murderous surprise attack on a little girl, just to make her like him a little more?

How about the suicide fairies? The little boy who was changed into an animal when he agreed to it while not paying attention? The defective and increasingly dangerous robot friend? Children given weapons waaaay too dangerous for their own good?

Oh, the list goes on, believe me. Gunnerkrig is a well of darkness, and always has been.

Methinks your memory of this comic is just a wee bit on the rosy side.

I'd wonder though. His powers make him lucky but they also like to put things in 'order', whether he wants it or not. They might find that no matter what they use, a sperm always finds it's way through to the egg.

One of the best porn comics I've ever seen was about George and Smitty gettin' it on.

It was flat out perfect, so well done that I consider it canon.

And the contraceptive method they used (which of course worked perfectly) was he pulled out and laid down a statement on her stomach.

It was adorbs.

Same reason you feel pain. While it sucks, it is a necessity.

Agree, I'd say 5 of first 14 chapters are fun or fun -and-sad, and only 3 of Volume 5 are fun or fun-and-sad. Rest are neutral at best.

>there is a reason just the thought of artificially created life reaching these conclusions terrifies you in a deep primordial place.

I have had a thought.

Annie is doomed to die. Her soul is that of a fire elemental, one that lives eternally by getting its host pregnant and then jumping to the child, leaving their body as a soulless shell to wither and die, slowly.

Kat, the Goddess of the Machine, is unlikely to take this gracefully.

Note the quote here: "As if!"

But why not?

Surma's MIND and personality were just fine after her soul was leeched away by Annie.

Why wouldn't Kat be able to give her a sturdier body, a body that did not need a soul to survive?

How far would Kat go to save her friend?

Hell, how do we know she hasn't already done it? The surreal landscape of the Court and the Forest, the weird ways Coyote and Jones break the rules, that could all be a virtual reality where Kat has Annie's mindstate stored for safekeeping, as she works to keep her friend alive.

How would we know?

Actually I think the "soul" in this setting encompasses the mind and the personality. Fire elementals are unique in that they never return to the ether, but instead devote their entire soul to the creation of their child.

Meaning that when Annie has a kid whatever you can call "Annie" is going to be completely annihilated.

I like the way you think, anon. It would make interesting reading, but I see pitfalls in the writing of it. GC already ignores a lot of science and scientific method, so Tom would have to avoid obvious plot holes that break the suspension of disbelief. Introduce more mythic ingredients, but avoid getting too fantastical?

Otherwise, FWIW, your post reminded me of John Searle's Chinese room argument against a machine method of replacing consciousness.
