That's a good question. Long Islands like Donald are certainly the most commonly eaten duck being widely domesticated and much meatier than American Blacks like Daffy. Daffy is a good straight man and if paired with the right character (Marvin the Martian, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig), he can turn an okay joke into a great joke simply with his personality. We know him by his modern characterization as a greedy bastard, but earlier he was just as good as the crazy duck singing "When the Merry-Go-Round-Broke-Down"

Donald is not really funny on his own, he's just an easily angered duck and that's it in most animated shorts, and he needs a good setup. If the situation is funny enough, Donald's anger towards it is funnier. But if Donald gets angry too quickly, he's more of an antagonist than a comedian.
And, well, you can't talk about Donald without mentioning the fucking comics, but that's not something even comparable to Looney Tunes; it'd be unfair to both. Personally I prefer Scrooge to Donald, and rather see the Donald in small doses.

So Daffy is best.
Disney's quality is rather sporadic when it comes to old animated shorts.

Nope. If you can believe it, Mickey was considered too sacrosanct to put in an adventure cartoon. It might damage his image, the thinking went, to show him in an actual fight. And Disney didn't want a Mickey cartoon with what they (then) perceived as mediocre DuckTales production values.

The later MouseWorks was permitted not because Mickey had less to do, but because it was perceived as similar enough to old-time Mickey animated content to be "respectful" to the icon.

Mickey is in so many good comics that you can already imagine what a good series would have been like, and we never got it.

Casuals usually recognize these characters from the cartoons and I think most would be hard pressed to choose between Daffy and Donald. Mickey's famous as shit, but most seem to favor Bugs as a character compared to him.

The only decent stories with Fethry are the ones were he and Donald are reporters for Scrooge's paper(because in those it's usually not him screwing over Donald but himself, and Donald being his regular accident-prone self) and their Tamers of Nonhuman Threats stories(which are decent but not great adventure stories).

Fethry seems much more tolerable in adventure-ish stories than otherwise, which kinda sucks since his whole purpose is to have relatively domestic stories spiral out of hand meaning such stories are rare. It doesn't help that his whole purpose is unnecessary since Donald is perfectly capable of screwing stuff up for himself without Fethry, and it's much more enjoyable without him.

It's one of my favorite comic book series, I recommend it thoroughly!
Hell, one story has it set in an alternate future where a bomb detonated and killed a big part of Donalds relatives and friends - Huey, Dewey, and Louie included, possibly Scrooge as well - and people blame him for the deed, so all other relatives has left for parts unknown and he hides alone deeply in the sewers. It's Immensely feels-heavy and it's titled "Nothing Personal"

Favorite PKNA/PK2/PKNE character?

Mine is probably Everett Ducklair or One. I really liked PK2, I'd say at least 8 of my top ten favorite characters were either from that part of the series or got more focus during that period.


Also, in my personal opinion, "The Weight of Memories" is the best issue in the series, but it's not an issue to be read alone without reading the rest of PK2 first.

Fun fact, Kay K might actually be more well-known in Sweden than Lyla, as while PKNA had it's own comic book and Doubleduck didn't, Doubleduck was instead featured in Kalle Ankas Pocket(Donald Ducks Paperback), a monthly magazine with 256 pages of italian duck comics(mostly older stuff), usually occupying almost half a paperback on it's own since Doubleduck stories are generally much longer than any PK story outside the new PKNE series, which is similar to Doubleduck in length.

That, and the fact that Lyla is from a ten year old series while Kay is current(PKNE is not out in Sweden yet), though the series is getting a rerelease in a paperback format- Stål-Kalle Pocket(PK Pocket)- each of these paperbacks include 5 full issues from the comic and total almost 400 pages(partly due to extras from the PKNA issues also being included).
