Genndy Tartakovsky is back to produce it.
This is so weird. It has been sooo many years since the last season and now they come up with a new one. After passing so much time you would think they would make a reboot instead right?
I'm optimistic. Not terribly HYPED but I trust Genndy to do good based on his relationship with his past projects (not so much the people behind them).
I just feel weird being positive about this. The direction network television seems to be taking is a little odd. All of this "hey, we're bringing back ____!!" is such a cheap way to get dumb people with money to pony up for shows they've already watched. Not to mention, this is really telling of intellectual bankruptcy. I guess suits aren't interested in taking risks.
Anyway, I'm happy that a new season is being produced. Since it's on Adult Swim more mature themes can be handled without Genndy having to worry about making it "kid friendly". The spirit of the show should still be in there: Noble, stoic Jack wandering the world. I think it'll be great especially with today's technology.
I just hope it's not CG, but we'll see.
Usually the guys who do the promos aren't the guys who do the actual show, so I'm really hoping the crappy animation in the promo is not representative of the actual show's animation.
And on Adult Swim?! I expect gooood things
English might not be your first language so let me explain how this works.
When something is "confirmed", that means that somebody involved with the production, preferably at a high level, has made a statement.
There is no statement, and when people have asked you for it you immediately start shitting everywhere like a retard.
Aku vs Hakumen no Mono, place your bets.
Most of Motorcity is hand drawn. Would've been better to post some Wakfu. Anyway, a lot of people don't realize that hand-drawn animation works very well in Flash. You CAN do frame-by-frame and still use Flash's capabilities to have more impact.
not /co/ but Ping Pong: The Animation was done in flash and it was really kinetic and dynamic. Flash is fine as long as animators don't use it efficiently and don't just tween everything
>still crying about a shit show getting canned
Why is this a sticky? Like wow, another cash-in on 90's nostalgia, what revolutionary news.
We didn't need a re-imagining of PPG and we don't need a remake of Samurai Jack. These shows were good DESPITE their horrendous concept.
Not him but I know for sure there's one fight that references one show that is referencing yet another. It's not nearly the plagiarism he's making it out as given how repeated it's been. It's standard homage fair.
I was in high school in the years this aired (01-05) My oldfagness didn't watch this but I did catch SymBionic Titan on Toonami and thought that was pretty damn awesome at the time.
Sym-Bionic Titan is a better show that SJ
Anyone else here hopes it doesn't get a "proper" ending?
I loved the "never ending journey" feel the show had.
>Gendy keeps his age-long tradition of starting a show, only to never finish properly.
I don`t know why we are all getting exciting. it`ll just end as abruptly as the first one did, knowing him.
But it will be more of it. Thats all I care about. The style of samurai jack, it's episodic nature, makes it so that If there is just more of it, then it's still good. They only need to string along occasional plot episodes and we will make up our own viewing order.
I don't really like the look of that animation. I hope that's just for the promo.
Jack is pretty heavily influenced by multiple different cultures (the bounty hunter episode is a good example) and it would probably be seen as cultural appropriation or something.
>Not to mention, this is really telling of intellectual bankruptcy. I guess suits aren't interested in taking risks.
what are you talking about
the story never ended and hes been trying to end it for years
I'm racking my brain to consider how. I mean I know the modern PC crowd always finds a way to be offended, but I just don't see how they'd have a problem just SHOWING that other cultures exist. Besides Jack is Asian himself.
I hope it don't turn in some edgy shit like Mr. Pickles.
How retardedare you that you would think an action show with a clear narrative and distinctive episode style would turn into a shock comedy that is intentionally aimless? Or is your victim complex so huge that you've already assumed CN is attacking you by ruining your childhood with the new Samurai Jack?
I was thinking about another revival of a kids show in an adult channel...
Not that guy but it's not impossible to believe that the higher ups at CN may demand the show to be more violent or sexually suggestive to fit the Adult Swim brand. Why not just put it on regular CN otherwise? I doubt Tartakovsky will let that happen though.
But Samurai Jack isn't at all similar to Ren and Stimpy. One was a comedy show that always had plenty of shock humor so it's easy to see how it became a mess when let of the leash. Jack is an action show that at worst might be more violent than it's original incarnation, but that's probably it.
They'll find something but SJ from the first damn episode showed a plethora of cultures and nations as he trained and learned from them and even the in the future he still meets new cultures that can reflect some of ours today.
>watching it again for kicks
>jack literally has the chance to use the time portal right in front of him
Does jack even understand how time travel works? All jack needed to do was let 2 monks die to save the entire future, millions of humans, & billions of alien races from Aku, & he doesn't do it because "muh samurai honor"
Why is Jack such a bad chcracter?
He's thinking more along the lines that he hopes it doesn't become dark and edgy for the sake of edginess (such as the robots cease to exist and suddenly Jack is mowing down fleshies, Scotsman curing up a storm just because he's a Scottish drunk, plot becomes 100% serious and no time for whimiscalness) just because it happens to be on an Adult block now. He has all the reason to be scared.
I'm personally not because the Genndy isn't stupid, but we won't know how much executive meddling this will have until it comes out.
we watch all of our shows together and cuddle
>& UNDO the FUTURE that is AKUUUU
The one where he loses to Laurence Fishburne from the matrix? Yeah that was always unsettling to me.
Is the future set in stone or isn't it? Still only 2 people to save an entire timeline. I stand by my anger. He's a samurai, he knows bushido & what that means, he should have honored the sacrifice of those 2 monks.
Jack is a bad character.
>it's low budget
>all the voices are different
>it's animated in flash
>it's being produced for AS so it's made painfully edgy
>The Scotsman is dead
>Jack now has a spunky female sidekick
>she becomes Jack's love interest
>only the dead can know peace from the evil
Always expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed. I'm keeping my expectations low.
>Dexter's Lab under Genndy had two finales, Last but Not Beast and the Egotrip film.
>Star Wars Clone Wars leads directly into Episode 3 to a point where in old behind the scenes stuff they remarked that the last season of that show could be shown in front of ROTS in theaters.
Jack and Titan don't really constitute an age long tradition.
>>The Scotsman is dead
>>Jack now has a spunky female sidekick
>>she becomes Jack's love interest
Please, they'll read that one anon's shitty "I Can't believe my Scot friend is this cute" greentexts based off the gender bender issues of the comic and make them canon.
The robots always annoyed me and I felt like characters were always robots just so they could get hacked up and get past the censors, I would be happy if there's more fleshie violence.
Of course robots have to still exist because they're an established part of the world, but really hoping for less of them.
>spunky female sidekick is actually the scotsman r63'd
>side quest is making him a man again
>confused feelings all around because they're both straight, but damn, these scotslady is a qt and she can't help seeing jack bare chested when it gets ripped.
>b-but me wifey at home....
>SOO MUCH sexual tension after hard fights where they are both covered in oil and grease, clothes rripped, panting
>last episodes, jack is going back to the past, scotsman is a man now
>I- you fight good
>its man talk for i love you
>fade to black
>Jack is back.
>Aku's face when.
PEOPLE WITH GOOD PHOTOSHOP SKILLS REPLACE THE TEXT WITH SOMETHING.
>apologizing over an opinion
>referring to anon as Luigi because of his pic
>trying and failing to rp or be funny
What level of newfaggory is this?
B-but, I'm just making a meme everyone can do.
god they were so cute in that issue
I feel guilty just saying that
I hoped for 2h movie, something like Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem, only longer and not a metal opera, but I guess continuation of the best western animated series ever produced in episodic form is still ok.
>They redo the narrating kids episode with them as teenagers or something
>About Jack and Scotsman going on an adventure instead of Jack fighting Aku
>the "AND THEN THEY FIGHT!" joke becomes "AND THEN THEY FUCK!"
Jesus Christ as if today couldn't get any better
Wait so does this mean that we'll actually learn what led up to future jack on the hill?
Fuck you Genndy, I had all these suicide plans all figured out and everything, what am I supposed to do now?
>yfw they make Aku have a shitty generic bad guy voice because asian accents are offensive
>Jack looks deep into Scotsman's eyes and says "This is what we both want, why fight it?" as she caresses her cheek
>AND THEN THEY FUCK!
>Then Jack starts peeling away Scotsman"s dress. She shudders and breaths "..b-but I'm a warrior.."
>AND THEN THEY FUCK!
>Then Jack slides off her robe, grasps Scotsman's hand and places it tenderly on her breast and whispers "Yes, but tonight we are only two women far from home."
>AND THEN THEY FUCK!
>Then Jack begins kissing Scotsman's neck. She takes Jack by the shoulders, forcing her on her back, and says "Show me what you're made of." before kissing her deeply
>And then they fuck?
Shit, just noticed it's way less pronounced in the american dub
Oh well, disregard that I suck cocks
>Samurai Jack is now black and voiced by an asian man
>there are people who have died the day before Samurai Jack's return was announced and you're complaining.
10 long years.
that's how long it took to us to get Jack back.
>yfw new season has the same quality as the rest
No, I mean padding. Like for example, someone would say something, and Jack would pause for like 6 seconds in reaction or something. You don't need that long, god damn it. All those little bits add up
in the decade waiting for Jack's return:
we've seen Toonami's death and resurrection
The Twilight Years of the DCAU
Ben 10's becoming a hit and then suffering with sequelitis (it got better with Omniverse or not)
Humorless Bostonians responsible for the ascension of Stu Snyder
Enduring the agony of Johnny Test
And many others too long to list but it's worth it for Jack's return.
>mfw new season turns out BETTER than the rest
>the X-9 episode
I never got to follow the show well enough, but that episode was fucking brilliant. I believe it was one of the last ones? Dammit, I need to get on to watching this series from beginning to end.
Rough Roman honor is best.
>You fuck up? you die
>Someone else fucks up? they die
>The entire unit fucks up? One out of every ten is selected to be beaten to death by the other 9 so they don't fuck up again.
>You lose? unacceptable, you die.
man I'm really into this dope new #SamuraiJack design
now that samurai jack, swat kats have come back, why don't we petition for gargoyles
>Hey Arnold finally getting a conclusion
>Now Samurai Jack is coming back
Feel fucking good man.
I made that post. The animation in that gif is atrocious. Season 1 is definitely not a good contender for "good flash".
I don't really have any good examples of Wakfu/Dofus aside from a few gifs, still pics, and this. Ankama knows what they're doing in terms of animation (check out the delicious Dofus movie trailer in the catalog). It's an acquired taste, I'll admit, and I disliked their style at first, but it grew on me.
The only thing I really dislike about the animation is the minimal use of shadows on characters, but that's because of the whole tweening thing. Would take a hell of a lot of time... and money.
I was born in 1997, what is this?
You're going to say "underage!!!" or "It was on from 2001 to 2003, how could you not know about it?", but the thing is, I don't remember anything from ages 4-6 other than floating shapes, colors, and drinking from a sippy cup.
>it's likely there are people who loved Samurai Jack and died thinking the show was over
I'm glad I don't an hero now.
I'm excited but
>still no galactic kids next door
>Genndy Tartakovsky is back to produce it.
doesnt CN hate him with a burning passion because the6y are too stupid to make toys out of his shit?
what kind of black magic did he use to bring back Jack?
I hope it ends with either both Jack and Aku dead, or with them realising it's impossible to beat one another and that they have to keep fighting to keep balance or wathever.
Having one of them beat the other would suck.
>Kids Next Door
>Foster's Home for imaginary friends
>My gym partner is a monkey
If Boku Girl tought me anything, it's that Genderswap best friend is the best endgame ship
because more people read the top of the thread and so more people report shitposts that are at the top
also shitposters and trolls like fresh threads, it makes it easier to stir the pot
That sounds cool at first but it would be kinda weird since the theme of the series is that good is inherently stronger than evil.
No matter what ending though I expect it to be good. Genndy strikes me as the kind of guy to have more ideas over time, not less.
You remember the anime where he fights the unbeatable blue black dude guarding the portal? You guys remember how it showed him in the future with a red cape being a badass and stuff? I hope it ends like that.
underrated post, I'm assuming since it hasn't been formally recognized. I don't consider cutting up fleshy things to be a sign of a mature show anyway. I'd like to see some more mature themes instead, liiike, self sacrifice, denial, and other general moral ambiguity?
Why the fuck did they make the comic canon if they were going to make another season, no where the fuck does it fit in?
I hope it ends where the comic picks up, the comic ending was shit but it was supposed to be it.
What episodes have you watched since the announcement?
>Samurai vs. Ninja
>Robo Samurai vs. Mondobot
>Jack and the Ultra-bots
>Jack and the Three Blind Archers
>Jack and the Lava Monster
>Jack and the Spartans
>all Scotsman episodes
>Jack in Egypt
>Jack and the Labyrinth
>Tale of X9
>Jack vs Aku
>The Princess and the Bounty Hunters
>Samurai vs. Samurai
>Jack and Swamp Monster
>The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful
>Jack and the Rave
>Jack and the Hunters
>Jack vs. Demongo
>THE DOME...OF DOOM
They all fucking hold up. Its amazing. Hell Dome of Doom is like my new top 5 now.
He meant the archer helm, jack picked up archery while he was away
I'm curious, do you guys have a nyaa equivalent? I've been downloading non stop from kametsu, but there's broken links everywhere. Slowpoking hard on PowerPuff reboot made me want to revisit the series.
Who are they gonna get to voice GREAT AKU THE SHAPESHIFTING MASTER OF DARKNESS!
Soo what's everyone's favorite episode? And favorite VS. episode? Not necessarily the best or well-animated, just the one you look forward to the most.
My dad and I love to watch Jump Good and Jack's Sandals whenever we want to watch it again. Jack vs. the Ultra Robots is my overall favorite though, never fails to give me chills.
I kinda hope they keep Mako's original recorded track, just for the opening narration.
Greg Baldwin will probably do a decent job, he voiced Aku in Fusionfall.
An Aku that never speaks might be creepy as hell, but it wouldn't be samurai jack without aku chewing the scenery.
Aku's Fairy Tales is probably my single favorite episode of anything, if I really had to narrow it down.
The the episode I think is the best put together is either the last Scotsman appearance or Four Seasons of Death.
Hard to choose, they're all fucking good. Any episode with the Scotsman is GOAT, Robo Samurai vs. Mondobot is probably my favorite vs. episode since I have a hard-on for kaiju fights.
>opening shot of remote village inside a valley at dusk
>obvious that it is made up of simple farmers and peasants
>a group of menacing warriors appear lead by an intimidating captain with his chest plate emblazoned with an emblem resembling Aku
>the elders of the village and a few strong men appear
>Aku's warriors demand "tax" money, or face death
>the villagers refuse, and are attacked
>village is pillaged and ransacked, crops are burned, etc
>their leader enters a hut and quickly begins looking for loot, all the while smashing things up and being evil
>he sees a scared woman hiding behind a bed and gets an evil lustful look in his eye
>he approaches her and she becomes more frightened with every step and begins screaming
>the evil warrior grins more and and more with each step
>all of a sudden *SHNK!*
>the blade of a sword bursts through his chest, causing him to grab its edge in great pain
>the blade pulls out, cutting off several fingers in the process
>*SHLAK*, he is decapitated
>his body falls, revealing the shape of a warrior in the dark
>he steps forward, revealing Samurai Jack, noticeably older, dressed in a black robe and with is long hair down
>the young woman puts her head up.. "It's you..."
thanks, although I admit it can use some work and probably needs to be longer for a first episode cold open, maybe some cuts back and forth from that and an unseen, offscreen jack offing random warriors, bodies falling, etc, plus some evil banter from the warrior chief to the girl
I like the concept of the show starting as if it had still been airing these past 11 years with Jack having been fighting Aku for who knows how long and nearing the point which the flashforward shows.
Long ago in a distant network, I, Stu Snyder, the demographic-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil!
But, a foolish Russian director wielding an imaginative creative team stepped forth to oppose me.
Before the final season was greenlit, I twoah open a portal in time and flung his show into the future, where my legacy is law!
Now the fool seeks to return to the past, and undo the programming set out by Stu!
its going to be shit
please tell me im wrong /co/
/fit/ here. Jack's gonna make it.
We're all gonna make it brah
If this goes over well, I could totally see them signing on for more Symbiotic Titan for toonami as well.
Also, I'd love to see them throw in some Symbionic Titan shit as cameo stuff in the new season.
The outlook could be a hell of a lot worse than it is
At least Genndy's doing it rather than some fuckhead Cartoon Network appointed to squeeze money out of dead (Besides comics) franchise
>Do you know what written off even means?
It means they no longer have the rights to it and can't air it anymore.
>Gonna need a source on that.
That is the only example of that ever happening and it was because of a loophole or something. Don't count on that for anything.
Shows that are written off can be regained. It just requires the network to go through months, if not years, of legal documents and paperwork, which depending on the show and the network can be more trouble than it's worth.
So, is this just a reboot, or are they actually continuing where the story left off?
I never got into Samurai Jack, because it being canceled was a major downer for me, should i check it out now, before the new season airs?
Princess and the bounty hunters really stood out to me it showed me that Jack faces off against other people with noble goals but sadly Jack can't give up on his.
Watching the end of episode was sad but Jack's resolve is unshakeable.
>It means that they no longer have the rights to it and can't air it anymore.
Ok but under what legal regime? Is this a tax thing? To whom have the rights reverted? Non-American financial lawyer here, and it seems very strange for a company to just give up a piece of intellectual property, even a non-revenue generating one, unless they got a significant financial bonus out of it.
Wait, you forgot the best part
>every episode Jack tries to seal the deal with love interest but some form of chaos or autism always gets in the way
It's the only way to keep shippers tuned in.
>Jack finds orphaned girl trying to take revenge on killers
>Her name is
>Takes her under his wing
>Teaches her to temper her passion, uphold justice, etc.
>Years later, Old Jack and YA girl fight Aku and return to the past
>Old Jack defeats Past Aku, but dies in the process. Passes on the sword to the girl.
>Decade later, Aku revives.
>In an instant he gets his arm cut off, and looks to see the girl, now a mature woman, confronting him with Jack's sword and an army.
>A glorious charge.
They could do 0-words episodes with storyless SoL bullshit in it and I wouldn't mind.
lies I want to see king jack
I just don't want voices/personalities/overall show style to change, but it's pretty much inevitable.
Last I recall reading it was the fact that it was too expensive and they KNEW it wasn't going to get renewed so it was just a fuck you ending.
They have no intention of ever telling as to how it was going to end.
Jim Zub wrote Aku in the comic to be a bit sillier compared to the show where he tend to be serious or bored out of his wits sometimes. not bad but oddly, it's a bit out of character
Idk, they could pull it off. I was the same "fuck flash, it looks like garbage" kid when I was 13, and then FHfIF came out, and I was literally tricked into thinking it wasn't done in flash because the animation was so good. WoY also looks pretty good despite being animated in flash/toonboom/software that tweens frames.
I think what it comes down to is if the animation director actually knows and understands the principles of animation, and ALSO is knowledgeable enough about the software being used to produce the show.
>it's being produced for AS so it's made painfully edgy
just because they are robots, doesn't mean it isn't edgy
Samurai Jack is pure edge and that is perfect, with blood it will be better
Not sure which timeline this would be but if he goes back, back to the past, samurai jack would either totally kill aku or defeat him in a way that renders aku helpless and the future that is aku would cease to exist, therefore all the the people hes helping is pointless because they either wouldnt exist or if they do exist, they wouldnt be under akus rule suffering.
Just my belief though.
I thought it was because he felt like a different person, it was symbolic for himself that he could only have a bland name like jack because he hasnt earned his real name and emperor title, he would only call himself his name again once he had achieved his goal, and if he failed, then he probably would feel hes no longer worthy to call himself whatever his real name is.
And i imagine being flung into the future is so weird that you would feel not like yourself anyway.
>Imagine John K. watching this screenshot, nodding and saying: "Yup, I'm a genius. Why won't people finance my George Liquour show?"
When the show got renewed, the execs really pushed for more adult themes and dirty jokes in order to appeal to the male twenty-somethings that are Spike TV's primary audience.
>samurai jack returns
>yfw this autistic piece of bear fecal matter returns
Say it ain't so
enough reacting to the news.
let's talk about what we expect from this new season of Samurai Jack.
do you guys think it'll have the same theme, or would you like a new one. do you think Will I Am will come back for it?
Remember that time Aku changed into a woman and fucked Jack over again, not even to sabotage a portal, just pure fuckery.
>need to pander for the younger demography
>artstyle is know like AT
Probably the third one, considering Jack is destined to kill Aku in the future, as the last comic and the Guardian's episode both features an older Jack.
My guess is that Jack'll kills Aku in the future, then go back to the past and kills him mere moments after Aku TORES OPEN A PORTAL IN TIME
