She's been an alcoholic since the beginning of the comic. She used to completely switch speech patterns when she was drunk.

Yeah but the urgency was rather sudden (and forced). This is what Jeph does. He claims he has these long arcs in mind years in advance George Lucas style but when it comes down to it he writes the actual script over the weekend (like Lucas) and doesn't proofread any of it. Faye has a drinking problem as a background character trait but Jeph decides to make an arc of it the day he starts writing it. Then he makes all sorts of mistakes and does a bunch of backpedaling and it all falls flat.

Faye is provisionally "cured" until Jeph feels like taking a second handstab at it, which, knowing him, could be 2019. Just think about it. Faye gets drunk, except this time it's different (for reasons) and gets fired from her job, even though her boss was buying beer for her to drink at work a few days prior. Then, for some reason (Patreon bux), Claire shows up, makes coffee and leaves. The next day Faye goes to an AA meeting. The day after that, the robot fighting club. That strip was a last ditch effort to get everyone on board with Emily but it was too late. Berman's a piece of shit, but it's funny how the really shitty, no-talent actors on the shows are somehow the most vocal about his poor treatment. Garrett Wang (Harry Kim from Voyager) is another one in that mold. Rumor is he was bossy and argumentative on the set and thought he was running the show, which is easy to believe if you read his interviews.

There is no reason to continue reading this comic. There is no struggle, there are no arguments, there is nothing to actually look forward to. The AIs are the most interesting thing lately, because surprise fucking surprise, they're the only thing that hasn't been explored and Jeph actually dislikes talking about them, because they distract from what he considers the "interesting" characters. This comic shows no growth,and when it does it's tossed out the window and ignored for the next arc. i.e. when Dora started going to therapy after breaking up with the first healthy relationship in her life. And we're only hearing about the therapist again after all this time. This comic doesn't care or represent growth of an individual. It just showcases the process of existing. And ironically, Marten is STILL the perfect main character, as even after thousands of strips he still "just exists".
