it was never a "meme"

starting off, he was always somewhat of an arrogant and fickle seeming twerp, especially online, conducting interviews with cartoonjew or whoever saying that gravity falls was planned out and that he had it all handled. he stuck to his word, but it was anything but handled well. he was also not very open to criticism and would block people on twitter for any slight real or imagined.

he delivered somewhat with NWHS, but everything after seemed like he lost grasp of something. the show didnt build to its conclusion, it just sort of arrived out of left field after a series of mediocre to bad episodes.

also, giving big roles to characters like soos (who is okay, but gets tiring), toby determined, grenda, and candy (who i dont mind, and her brief dipper scenes were even cute, but wasted within a shitty episode that squandered her potential) when people were clamoring for wendy or pacifica or their families or hell even gideon who was reduced to a minor annoyance this season at best after basically being advertised as season 2's mastermind villain in the shorts. ford ended up being a chump whose unnecessary celebrity VA bankrupted the budget. bill's long anticipated archimonde summoning turned out to just be a bunch of yo gabba gabba rejects instead. the season hasn't been complete shit, but i fully expect a danny phantom tier "meh" finale with a wrap up that leaves 95% of fans unsatisfied and hirsch will spend the rest of his career listening to moronic fans demand him to bring GF back.

1. I would've just had Mabel be unconscious and inside the bubble was her mindscape like in Dreamscaperers. They would have to communicate to Mabel's subconscious and get her to accept growing up, Dipper looks at memories and realizes he would rather be with Mabel than Ford, etc.

I actually followed LOST while it was first airing, and theorized about it on SomethingAwful.

I remember the slowly building rage as the sinking realization that the showrunners had no fucking idea what any of the "mysteries" on the show actually meant and they were full of shit.

When this actually turned out to be true, the disappointment and anger were painful.

Suddenly, all the half-baked fan theories were no longer laughable because they were a million times better than what we got.
