What do you guys think of season 2 so far?

Pretty great, but it gets hard to follow when there are no episodes for such long stretches.

Unhappy with gremlin Peridot (bitch is way too infantile, was better when she was at least partially threatening and stuff) but everything else is alright. New intro is cool.

We're not seeing Yellow Diamond until like April or some shit though so not much interest in it at the moment.

It's on track to be really fantastic. Considering most people say S1 doesn't really kick off until the midseason two-parter, we've already had a good number of excellent episodes and an overall high level of quality without even having reached that halfway point.

I like it, but I kind of miss some of the episodes of the first season where the focus was gem attacks and human episodes seemed more interesting, like Island Adventure. I like how we're getting more and more story, but somehow it feels like we're not getting enough while at the same time it feels like they're rushing it or not pacing it well. Maybe it's all the hiatuses.
I really like Peridot, but I'm kind of wary where they're going to go with her. I don't want to be that "shippingfag" but I really hope they don't just pair her up with Amethyst or something, just because her interaction with Steven is cute and it's starting to get to a point where it kind of feels like there's "too many lesbians". Something different would be neat, but I digress.

Same. She was a bit uptight, but she was genuinely loving of Steven, and her awkward personality made her endearing. She was also a clear choice for favorite, seeing that our only other options were Garnet (a mary sue, and now even worse of a character because now all she talks about is fucking fusion) and Amethyst (annoying as fuck in early episodes, but has warmed up to me a little since she got some character development).

That's pretty much how I feel on all points. I didn't dislike Garnet, but I thought she was cool. But since the Ruby/Sapphire reveal, I felt that she just wasn't the same. On the other hand, I feel that Amethyst was becoming way more likeable since that episode where she dies like 5 times. Like she actually grew up. Pearl was just sort of going all psycho and was just obsessed with Rose and showing no concern for anyone else.

Outside of technology the crystal gems assume Homeworld is the same culturally based on Peridot and Jasper's interaction with them.

Steven is more interested in making peri comfortable with earth before he starts probing her for questions about home. He's smart enough to know asking certain questions could open skeletons for the crystal gems so he would probably want to hear it from garnet and pearl rather than peridot to make everyone feel comfortable.

The gems just held back Peridot, and Jasper and Lapis fused together, only to be tricked by Lapis...good shit, didn't see that coming. So Jasper and Lapis seem out of the equation for now...and Peridot is still on the loose.... Season 1 is wrapping up nicely...and I love how they're slowly tying in Rose more and more. Back to the Barn was by far the best episode of this recent Peridot arc because it was entertaining, told a complete story, and had some good character moments for Pearl.

Catch and Release was okay, and both When it Rains and Too Far were mediocre.

Lapis is really pretty. I want to buy her cigarettes and protect her from her crazy ex.

It has been disappointing. The way they are handling Peridot's character and other character's reactions to her make sense, but they are also really obnoxious to watch. I hope they just kill her off soon. What really needs to change is just more emphasis on Steven doing his stuff rather than gem drama of the week. The worst part is that I'm actually starting to appreciate Connie as a character now that the gems are progressively becoming more unbearable as more and more drama bullshit gets thrown in.

He has the most motherly and affectionate gem to be seen. With this as the basis of his powers, he blossoms most from helping others and supporting their issues.

What character? Her only "character" prior to Catch and Release was "NYEHEHE I'm the meme character!" If anything the direction they're taking with her is appropriate, considering that all she knows is to blindly follow orders from Yellow Diamond. Despite everything she's been conditioned to learn in the hivemind that is Homeworld, Peridot is now learning to understand that it's wrong to persecute gems for being lower class servants, malformed or defective, and soon, to be in love with one another, assuming they do a Peridot episode with Garnet.

The theme of the show is love and acceptance. Everyone is flawed or functions atypically in some way shape or form. The best thing you can do as a person is to accept this, and work together with people who are different from you in order to understand each other's perspectives and reach a compromise of some sort. It's a great message, and I think it's cool that Peridot is trying her best to learn all this despite her background.

Season 1 was a fun, childlike adventure with moments of real peril mixed in with heartfelt joy. I loved it. It felt like the best moments of Neverending Story at times.

Don't get me wrong, she's cold and calculating (or at least, tries to be) but she quickly lost her grip on the situation as soon as she a) learned that the Crystal Gems were a thing, and b) became stranded/left for dead on earth after Jailbreak happened.

And yes, she crushed the robot because she didn't give a shit that it was broken/defective, meaning she lacked empathy. In her newer episodes, she kept that lack of empathy when interacting with Pearl and Amethyst, but the context of that characterization is different because she's not the one in control, nor does she have her limb enhancers or whatever the fuck they're called. She's also dealing with living beings that can explain to her why she's wrong, whereas in Homeworld, it's likely common practice to eliminate/disregard those who are perceived as weak, and not question it.

Seriously, though: it's a problem with allegories in general that they're crude. Their messages suffer because analogies are always imprecise and allegories' especially so in order for the story-side of things to be workable, and their stories suffer when real-world baggage is addressed instead of the scenarios presented being considered on their own merits. I know this is pretty late but the episode definitely puts Amethyst in a bad light too. Peridot was trying to be funny because Amethyst is supposed to be her superior, and since she was laughing at the mean things she was saying about her Peridot went too far with it.

Amethyst was offended but she wasn't trying to get Peridot to apologize, because it's obvious she's partially responsible for what happened.

The moral of the episode wasn't "If you get offended you're always in the right", it was "apologizing when both of you are in the wrong make you the bigger person."
