Okay, this is the biggest problem that I have since it's shining a huge spotlight on a major inconsistency with Semblances. Semblances are supposed to be unique, as extensions of each person's individual and unique soul, yet Winter and Weiss and all Schnees for that matter all have the same semblance. Why? Because RT is lazy. There's no legitimate explanation because if their relying on Semblances being hereditary, then ALL semblances should be hereditary too in some fashion. Creating an exception to a rule like they did here only shows that they recognized that they broke their own rule and needed some half-assed excuse to justify it. It's shit like this regarding character abilities that bothers me the most sometimes about this show.

Anon, consider that the Schnee Glyphs all look exactly like the SDC logo. Do you think that's a coincidence? I believe that it's less that their Semblances are passed through blood, but rather that the way they're raised means Schnees all develop the same Semblance, almost be design. They're raised being told "This is your Semblance, it looks like this, and does this. If you can't do it, you aren't a Schnee."

On the other hand, lets say Weiss and Neptune fuck off for a year, and she gets knocked up. She doesn't want to explain how that faggot is her baby daddy, so she gives the kid up for adoption. By blood, said kid would be unlikely to develop that Semblance, since it wasn't raised the same.

Of course, this is all one loser Anin's head canon, and we all know the Chucklefucks Twins are making shit up as they go, so I could easily be wrong about all of that, although if I'm right, the idea of manipulating developing Semblances could be interesting, as it sounds very much like the sort of shit that would be done by, to throw an idea out there, Fantasy Nazis.

Visiting the family for a week, talked to my cousin who's 13 and apparently likes RWBY, and RvB, which is cool.

She's been talking to me about it all day because I made the mistake of wearing my Epsilon shirt today.

Apparently she really, really likes Blake/Yang. A lot. And Coco/Velvet - she's ranted a bit at me because they don't get enough screen time and she really likes them, wants to cosplay Velvet. It's kinda endearing, desu. She's got some excellent theories about the show, too.

It's a shame that this is what fighting in RWBY is going to be, considering how well they handled Roman. I loved how Roman was just more experienced, able to take on blake and sun and abuse any momentary lapse to gain advantage. That is what good fighting should've been, not the Dragon Ball Z super speed shit we've been getting this volume. The strong characters just seem too invincible and there isn't much room for interesting sequences when they can just go sanic against each other and not even worry about getting hit. I get Ruby going fast, because that's her semblance, but when Mercury, Emerald, Qrow, Winter and who knows how many other people can do the same, what's the point?

I think it's a case of being between a rock and a hard place with the episode itself. They're already dealing with short episode lengths, now you have to make a fuck-awesome fight but still move the plot/story along.

You either have:

-Brutal back and forth with both sides trading blows only for Merc/Em to win at the last second by lucky shot/plot device/ring out etc

-What they did here where one side completely steam rolls the other.

Granted, the first option is better, definitely not arguing that, but I'm sure we'd argue the shit out of them winning due to a "lucky shot or fucking cheap ass shit" or something.
