>Lots of bad decisions were made on both sides of the Pacific. As Miyazaki said recently the lack of imagination among creative teams and pandering to the otaku is slowly killing anime as a unique and creative force in the global animation market. This was already starting to take hold around 1987, and the quality of the average's anime plotting and aesthetics declined greatly at a time when American cartoons started a rebirth in storytelling and animation techniques that has continued to the present day with Cans Without Lables.
>-Eddie Fitzgerald

Why has another Mighty Mouse not shown up yet, the first one did wonders back in 1987.
>>
>>77727820
True. This Mighty Mouse cartoon broke away from the dull poorly formulaic cartoons of that era and became a creative force setting a new bar for cartoons

If you want to talk about 80s cartoons with story arcs, Teddy Ruxpin of all things actually had a continuous plot from beginning to end with mysteries being presented and subsequently unraveled along the way. Probably helped that the story and characters had all been written decades beforehand.

You know that most of the storyline was originally written to be a TV show performed with puppets decades before the animatronic toy ever happened, right? Read this interview with Ken Forsse:
http://www.teddyruxpinonline.com/ken.html
The toy just happened to be successful enough that the stories that had for the character and his world long beforehand were able to be made into books and cartoons.

I agree with him up to "Cans Without Labels"

Even if it's good I wouldn't call it the pinnacle of animation storytelling or techniques. It looks terrible compared to the Carbunkle Ren and Stimpy episodes and has a fairly typical George Liquor plot.

Life Sucks looks a lot more interesting to me as a John K project, too bad it never got produced.
>>
>>77728123

Gummi Bears had a plot. What's so hard to get? It had world building, callbacks, all that stuff. It even had a finale, with a bit of a cliffhanger to it

>>
>>77728837
A lot of 80's cartoons had plot. Your just praising the Bears as some holy grail of a cartoon when it was just ok
>>
>>77728964
No they did not, they were just long ads.

Also Mighty Mouse is excellent but it was not a masterpiece, that was Tiny Toons.
>>
>>77728971
Gummi Bears was also excellent, DuckTales was better however.
>>
>>77728964

What other cartoons? Ducktales? That had no plot, it was episodic. Thundercats? Same thing, the only plot was its pilot and the arc when they introduced the three new cats.
>>
>>77729048
Thundercats was a ad, at least DuckTales was Excellent.
>>
>>77729059

All the shows were excellent in some way or another. Being an "ad" didn't take away from that
>>
>>77728947
It's literally just letting John K Play out his daddy issues with stories that aren't even funny via animation that isn't pleasant or enjoyable in the slightest.

Johnny Test is a better use of money that Cans Without Labels since you can put that shit on rerun forever and no one with a brain will notice.

>>

That doesn't answer the question. And it's just a nitpicky picture saying that EVERYTHING TODAY IS BAD.
>>
>>77729115
Yes it did, don't be delusional.
>>
>>77729106
no it's 100% correct. There is nothing worthwhile about Cans Without Labels.

Crowdfunding has successes, the HBS Shadowrun games are one example as 3 for 3 the developers have produced excellent games well worth playing.

You want to claim crowdfunding animation isn't a waste of money? Pick someone who isn't known to be incapable of meeting deadlines, incapable of working with other people, and whose art style hasn't degraded into a grotesque mess.
>>
>>77729122

Not being delusional, and no it didn't. It just show they were responsible for some great cartoons and that SOME of their recent works aren't as good. Christ, this whole "everything made today is bad" crap is stupid. Miyazaki is not some fucking authority just because he does good work. Parroting his opinions is just as dumb as the people who thought Ebert was the authority on what was art when games were starting to be considered as possible art.

Everything here seems strangely attached to TMS related stuff
>>
>>77729206
No, it's not, it's a John K topic.
>>
>>77729204

Even then, they weren't bad for being "commercials". They had fun stories in many episodes, and in the case of Transformers, they became more story focused. Granted, only like three of the shows made after G1 were all that great plot-wise.
>>
>>77729184
I haven't played Shovel Knight or Half Genie Hero. I like RPGs, preferably of the isometric turnbased variety. Shovel Knight seems pretty popular though.

and I don't see why Fitzgerald's word is such a big deal, he has some experience in the industry but he's not some amazing icon of taste or intelligence.

I don't need a degree in animation to know a bad investment when I see one. A poorly made work made for the sake of "self expression" may be art but it's also ugly and self indulgent.
>>
>>77729216
I know, Toei did a fine job, it's when Akom took over that it became a mess.
>>
>>77729224
>And I don't see why Fitzgerald's word is such a big deal.
It is and Cans is done with, John just needs to release it is all.
>>
>>77729225

Just because some of their recent works aren't as memorable doesn't mean everything is terrible
>>
>>77729224

Shovel Knight isn't too bad. If you ever played the Ducktales videogame from way back, it's a lot like it, but a bit more action-heavy compared to just finding treasures and pogoing on enemies
>>
>>77729241
Blue Jacket is great.
>>
>>77729258

There's never really been a bad Lupin. I know some were divided on the Fujiko thing a while back, but I recall it being considered a neat new look compared to the usual stuff.
>>
>>77729240
how exactly is Fitzgerald's word a big deal. Please explain.

why should I care when I know John K is extremely overrated when it comes to his skill as a comedian and animator?
>>
>>77729285
Still, every episode of Blue Jacket was outsourced to places like T2/Rough Draft (South Korean studio, under their Orange banner which they use for anime), Magic Bus, Delta Peak Pro, Studio Mu and AIC telling that Blue Jacket was not their main focus at the time.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=16347
>>
>>77729257
I never did play the old Ducktales game, still sounds nice.
>>
>>77729298
He worked on Kenji Hachizaki's The Return Of BatDuck on character designs.
>>
>>77729305

Outsourcing/replacing animation teams isn't exactly new. I mean, look at Toei, they NEVER keep a team for long. While I understand the whole "they'd have to increase pay" bullshit, it shows quite painfully in things like DBZ and One Piece, the latter of which has only gotten worse as time goes on.
>>
>>77729324
They still have Doremi's & PPGZ's team, the later worked on that Ladybug pilot before it became a CG show.
>>
>>77729311
I don't see how that makes him a great word of authority on what is and is not a waste of time and money. He's an experienced and successful animator.

John K is the former but no where close to the latter. The point of contention is that Cans Without Labels is a complete waste of time and money.

One Man's successful career as an animator won't change my mind on that.
>>
>>77729348
But is was made as a Korra killer.

Gummi Bears brought full animation to television.

Well, The Wuzzles brought full animation back to television, but let's forget about that.

The 90s animation renaissance went something like this:

- Hasbro makes money with straight-to-syndication shows
- Disney sees Hasbro making money, starts its own straight-to-syndication shows: The Wuzzles and Gummi Bears, and subsequently the Disney Afternoon
- Everybody and their mother starts working on bringing back classic cartoons
- Mighty Mouse makes a splash in the industry but not much else (except the "controversy")
- Who Framed Roger Rabbit blows up, makes everyone want to bring back classic cartoons even more
- The Little Mermaid puts animation back in the public mind
- Quality television cartoons start to emerge

Mighty Mouse can tell "FIRST!" but it wasn't very good and it wasn't exactly first except in terms of being made by cartoonists instead of executives.

Anyway it's not one single show that saved us from seeing cartoons on TV like "Rubik, the Amazing Cube".

Sengoku Basara anime was a fucking miracle.
The original one barely had a plot.
Characters were one dimensional as fuck.
They managed to take fanservice girl number 2 and make her a memorable entry of a Nohime character.
Every scene with Oda was excellent.
The drama between Ichi was full blown retarded on the games, being super forced and going nowhere.
In two episodes they managed to make it actually be heartful and they didn't push that shit as the soly defining thing of her character as much a the games, she also appears way less dodging that bullet entirely.

It speaks volumes to the quality of the studio of taking "bare bones fanservice the game" and turn into something watchable.

Want to see what this shit could've been? Watch the Samurai Warriors (Sengoku Musou) anime.

THAT'S how fucked up Sengoku Basara could've been. Hell, Sengoku Musou even had a better plot/base to go off but the studio went for a 1:1 adaptation and it sucked HARD.

Jaysus, I can't even come up with a "clever" insulting pun on your name this time...

The torture never stops.

He's not jewish so that doesn't make any sense.

He's not the authority who decides if it is or isn't dead

It's probably that delusional baby who thinks Genndy ripped the idea off some anime dude.

>dy butcher Dezaki's dream

Oh, so you ARE still spouting that baseless nonsense.

Look pal, NOTHING of Dezaki's stuff was ever referenced in SBT. And no, he didn't make any designs, I've looked through every thing I can find of his shit, and nothing resembled Lance, Illana, or Octus. You're crazy.
>>
>>77745137

Dude, NOTHING in that image resemble SBT, stop making up shit.
>>
>>77744271
Who is?
>>77744306
Not delusional, fact, I have been following it's production since March of 2009.
>>77744346
No it's fact, Titan was supposed to be season 2 of Orbots but NBC Universal said no so he made a expy for CN who later retooled it because TMS wanted to much money for it.

Also Dezaki was not a designer, the robots (mainly Bimmy, the main robot) were designed by a ex-Sunrise animator who is now freelanced when it's human cast was done by Masatomo Sudo & Toshihiko Masuda, of course the design of the show was different as well as it's human cast.

Telecom's staff even had some promo art on their desks before they moved to Nakano from Mitaka.

That picture was a gift Dezaki made for CN's staff before someone sold it and got leaked online.

You still have shown NOTHING that proves these falsehoods. You are just some crazed fanboy who can't stand that a weeb like Genndy made a pretty decent Anime-inspired show.
>>
>>77745313
Also, I worked at TMS and was living in Japan during it's production, all of this stuff is true.
>>
>>77745313

It still doesn't prove that Genndy used it for SBT. Literally nothing in that image resembles the SBT characters.

Said info is true, the final version is just boring.

You do realize not liking something means you can make shit up and claim it as fact, right?

Holy Mother of Christ, there's just no stopping you is there? Where the fuck is the off switch on your tr? How the fuck do I report you to the mods? Why the fuck do you come here day after day after day? Go to Hell, Famicock. Please.
>>
>>77745610

Just report him. Though you have to admire this kind of delusion. I mean, if he could provide at least ONE credible image that wasn't for ants or even an interview from google (which literally has no mention of these claims to search), maybe I'd be inclined to think a little differently.
