It was canceled because Disney exec's saw how Bill gets defeated.

Rick shows up and party's with Bill so hard that the Pine twins can Drunk toss the both of them back to their own dimension.

If Disney was trying to kill it they wouldn't have spent the dosh for the between-seasons animated shorts or any of the new puppet ads.

Show was originally going to be three seasons, Hirsch decided it was better as two. Probably because everyone complained about filler episodes in season one and wanted to cut down on it in season two. Maybe he is right, maybe he is wrong, but we got two.

Its obvious Alex's alcoholism has had a negative effect on production, possibly causing Alex to ditch the show prematurely and before everything had a chance to be explained. Here's hoping Justin helps Alex come to terms with the source of his issues, namely his sexual desire for Justin and/or Ariel

Two seasons and an hour long finale special are the perfect length for Gravity Falls.

After Ford came back the show had nowhere left to go beyond the final showdown with Bill. It escalated the stakes and padding out the time between his return and the endgame for an entire seasons worth of filler would have been frustrating.

After Ford arrived it completely abandoned all of it's sensibilities. I'm pretty sure Alex realized he couldn't solve his own mysteries and just gave up. He's too soft to work in television.

Really? I'd have to rewatch S2 but my memory of it is that outside of the episode with the shapeshifter where Wendy joins in the adventure and Dipper kinda gets over Wendy, and her going all Mad Max now in Weirdmageddon, I've found Wendy curiously absent from this season. She's rarely in the shack. When she first went on that adventure with the gang and was cool with her axe and such, I figured she'd be joining them on more adventures. That sure as fuck didn't happen.

I don't have a problem with Wendy but I just feel that instead of Wendy it'd be better to put other characters, like Ford, Stan (after episode 10 he became a background character and we barely have Stan/Ford interaction), maybe Pacifica trying to clean her family name helping Depper or even just Depper supposedly Stan and Ford "train" him so it'd be nice to see some character develop, he doesn't have Mabel, Ford neither the journals.
