I really liked the miniseries, seemed more aligned with the erlier seasons than the shit stain that was the Orgalorg mess. Tons of fanservice, writers seemed to remember a lot of the older plot points, the Enchiridion name drop was really nice.

The only real problems I had with it was the final episode being garbage, and Finn being super useless.

The return to the status quo for the candy kingdom I'm alright with to be honest, King of Ooo was starting to get a bit old, and I feel the arch had it's appropriate time. Marceline's was pretty dumb though, why pulsing they just use the machine again? I know it got blown up, but shit, PB could rebuild that shit real quick.
The final battle was ass as well. It started off so well with all the kingdoms, but then Marceline came in and marry sued it up anime style.

Pretty good overall, funny considering I thought the last few episodes were just garbage. I'm not taking the miniseries as a sign that the show will improve overall.
I wish the show would stop treating Finn like shit though.

The fact that as people have mentioned before, things very rarely change in Adventure Time aside, this is completely not true. Well, maybe for you it's true, but it's still dumb.

Take an episode that a lot of people tend to like, like Dad's Dungeon. In the end of that episode, nothing really changes aside from Finn getting a new sword, and maybe a renewed sense of confidence. But that isn't the point. It's a great episode regardless, whether it be because people think it's funny, cool, or because it has a good song.
Likewise, as you say nothing much changes in Stakes except maybe Marceline getting new mortal enemies and maybe a tiny lion guy who talks to her sometimes. But to say that the miniseries was pointless is as stupid as calling my previous episode example pointless. As with many, many other episodes of AT where things end up in a status quo.

you seem to be implying the writing is the same quality. plot threads were introduced to keep people watching when the writing stopped being fun enough on its own.

I actually mentioned strength in another thread as well. Marceline and the king seem to be the ones that represent more than one card. The vampire king again literaly mimicks the devil card, has attributes of the emporer(obviously), and the hanged man (letting go, sacrifice=again, literally mimcked the pose in the surrender scene, sacrificed himself to keep vampirism alive) also the hanged man is meant to be the opposite of the world, strength is control (marcy is the maiden that restains the wild strength of the lion. the only ones i;m still struggling with ambiguity are temperence, magician, justice and judgement.
