The only very early trailer I remember is the one where the snowman and reindeer fight over a carrot and don't represent the movie at all. For the longest time that was pretty much all we had and it was very confusing if you knew it was supposed to somehow be a movie having to do with the Snow Queen.

I find it interesting that Disney did a massive search throughout the Pacific Islands for the voice of Moana and chose Auli'i Cravalho of Oahu. I like how they are choosing an amateur Native Hawaiian instead of a typical on screen Hollywood actor.

Here's what I think the story will be.

The sad truth of the world in this day and age is that the majority of people do not like colored/non-white people. Majority of all minorities are violent and are prone to violence.

Because of this the Majority of the world don't like it when they're the main stars of the movie. For example Princess and the Frog didn't do as well as it could have because the main focal point was a black woman. Outside the United States and Canada it did poorly, most prominent cases of it not making any money is in Northern Europe, China, Japan, and South Korea.

China is a huge reason movies do good or bad; no matter how the plot was of the story, they eat it up, as long as the main characters are white or almost white. Same for Northern Europe/Russia, they are huge countries and the majority of them hate non-whites. So you're not going to see any sales.

While Frozen who stared a blonde haired, blue eyed, white sister and a strawberry blonde and white sister was a HUGE SUCCESS all around the world.

No one will admit these things but it's the truth. The world as we see it isn't what United States/Canada wants us to see it. In most countries the more white you are the more better you'll fare in life. An example of this is India, they are probably some of the most racist people on the Earth and the more white/light brown you are the higher you'll rise in society.

This show IS GOING to do well and make it's income but it will never be as a strong of a hit like Frozen was. Fun fact, Lilo and Stitch was picked up by Japan at some point and made Lilo and all the Natives of Hawaii more white.

I think the problem with the frog princess is that it was about a specific period of time of a specific populational group of a specific part of United States. Tangled might be in an European-like setting but it is a generic fairy tale setting everybody is familiar with in the whole world.

Or else actors like Samuel L Jackson, Will Smith, etc wouldn't be protagonist of big movies, and Avatar would have flopped because it is basically Polinesian Mulan in space.

Even if Tangled was set in a European Setting, the main character was blonde and white; cast was white. So everyone likes it more.

Now Will Smith; I haven't watched a lot of Samuel L Jackson movies; majority of his movies he was ether secondary cast or the main protag but with white secondary characters. I am Legend did well but that one where it was his son and himself did horribly. In I Am Legend it's not so much about him but of the idea of someone being by themself in a post-apocalyptic like environment, he is just the bread crumb to lead the story along and at the end he also died to save a white woman

I don't know why Disney/Pixar insist on doing these sort of movies when they'll probably wont make a lot of money. Maybe they do it to meet the stats queue; they can't go back to make stories about only white princesses because they'd be seen as racist; but it would make them a ton of money.

Colombian here. I were happy if animated movie creators were like that with the research for the myths for their movies.

First movie based on a myth from my country was Road to El Dorado, and it's just a deformed version of the original myth relocated in the forever present Mexican setting.

The natives weren't Muiscas but Aztecas, the sacred place wasn't Güatavita lake but a portal to Shivalva, the bad guy wasn't Jimenez de Quesada but Cortéz. I mean, why bother in picking a Myth if they gonna turn it into generic stuff?

Now, Mohana is a female Mohan wich is also a Colombian myth... but I'm seeing Hawaiians... Having many unexplored myths to use and it is gonna be about common used stuff, again.
