That's because, from what I understand based on what he's posted about it, the covers get worked up several months in advanced (so they can be used advertisements), and the he just kinda wings it each issue with a rough idea of what he wants to do. Sometimes this has caused certain storylines to go way longer than they were intended and covers end up not matching the current storyline.

I don't doubt that "Dead Ginas leaves clues for herself as she goes through a spooky dungeon" was originally on the table when he made that cover, but eventually the idea mutated into the Gina Mutliverse thing we got now as he was doing the actual work of working through issues.

I mean, the guy is basically doing all the writing, drawing, coloring, everything by himself. I'm flabbergasted that he's managed to keep it going this long.
