the character designs are one hundred percent gorgeous, but I don't really feel like watching a series that just mocks its own inspiration material

so, is it worth giving it a try or should I just watch City Hunter?

It really doesn't poke fun at 80s tropes too much. It's got it's own surreal brand of humor.

My guess would have been Synthwave Archer. The color scheme makes me think of Kavinsky and Electric Youth.
>>
Just marathoned the first episode, does it get better? I like the idea, and I do have a guilty pleasure boner for all things 80s no matter how bad/good, so I'll probably keep watching, but.. it feels a little forced. I kind of wish it took itself a bit more seriously. Dazzle being comically incompetent is great, but it would be nice if it was a little less over the top slapstick familyguy zany with old ladies being set on fire every 5 seconds and so on.

>>
>>77574944
It's nothing like Archer and that's unfortunate. Archer had internal consistency with its characters basically being friendly sociopaths but living in a world that more or less operated under normal rules and would be aghast at their actions if they didn't have enough wealth and power to get away with their shit all the time. Moonbeam City is just "eh, whatever, the whole world's crazy, who cares, it doesn't matter".
>>
>>77575031
I think that's Moonbeam City's strong point over Archer. At the end of the day, Archer is mostly just silly people quipping at each other, whereas Moonbeam City relies on many other forms of humor and also allows itself to have more action and cool shit happening. Both sure are gimmicky as hell but Moonbeam City uses the potential of animation more thoroughly and efficiently.
>>
>>77575031
On the contrary it let's them do crazier, wilder things with the same characters.

Kind of like Rick and Morty in a way.
>>
>>77574735
uh, there's more to Synthwave than Kavinsky, thank fucking god.

>>

Sorry, kid, but you lost the argument when you said the '80s didn't take place during the '80s.

Even if you were talking about the cultural zeitgeist (which I assume is what you meant in the first place) that shit was over by the end of the decade. Music charts moved to more dance-pop and more rap, fashion moved away from pastel colors and deconstructed suits, action movie heroes were considered cheesy since they could no longer rely on big muscles and one-liners alone, and the war on drugs was in full-effect. The last few years of the decade and the first few of the next was just the aftertaste of what you call the "80s."

The 80's basically got rerun for most of the early 90's. I was born in '87 but have pretty vivid memories of Knight Rider, Airwolf, Transformers, Galaxy Rangers, Saber Rider, assorted 80's music and violent 80's action films being cornerstones of my early childhood.

Things got pretty boring after '95, to be honest.

>Just watch some Let's Plays to see if you like it.
It's sort of hard to get the proper effect the game is going for without actually playing it. The excitement/frustration of strategicly smashing your head against a house full of mobsters over and over is meant to get you in the zone. It's very much a game and greatly leans on the mood that develops from play. The story takes a backseat to player experience.
If it's not your deal thats cool but let's plays are not the ideal way of judging games like HL:M

The sequel is really disappointing in almost every way.

This episode was fucking great. Usually you would have some shit where the mc and parental figure just can't see eye to eye on things and remain hating each other when the ep is over.

I was raised in a broken family but always got love from both parents, so seeing them connect and reconcile hit me with some powerful goddamn feels, especially in the climax.

Rad was funny as always too.

b) Just to fuck with the audience.

I was pleasantly surprised by this show. I expected it to be either just an Archer-style sitcom with New Wave aesthetics slapped on it, or a clumsy attempt satirizing 80s pop culture kinda like Kunge Fury did. I mean, I liked Kung Fury, but it was pretty clear that they were more trying to make a live-action Adult Swim cartoon than a genuine homage to 80s B-movies and as a result it was awkwardly dated (and I mean 2010s dated, not 80s dated).

But somehow Moonbeam City is neither of those things, you can see legit references to 80s culture outside of the art but it's not hamfisted stuff we've already seen countless times, it's mostly tasteful, even for a violent potty humor action show.

I actually like Dazzle more than Archer (especially how he was during his earlier seasons) because he's arguably less of a bully. Sure he can be as big of a callous bastard at times (particularly when he actually gets motivated to do something), but he's less likely to go out of his way to treat you like garbage for simply existing (and not being Burt Reynolds). There's less hatred in his soul and thus he can be outright nice at points. In summation, he's more crazy than mean.

One of my most favourite parts of Chrysalis' character design are the lines near the bottom of her eyes. They perfectly compliment her dimples; those give off a sense of freshness and youth while the aforementioned creases make her look perpetually worried and overworked. A great visual for the cast's newcomer who nonetheless has to carry the team more often than not.

Yeah. I agree. Archer in general has some redeeming qualities about him but unless it has to do with AJ (that speech he gave in the informant episode was pretty bad ass) or pets, he's generally not a nice person.

Dazzle is pretty entertaining to watch because he's got a bunch of interests going for him outside of cop work and like other people have mentioned, his real passion is seen in the arts. Seeing him get enthusiastic about each one is refreshing to watch other than the booze, ladies, murder, repeat that Archer gets into.

Okay this has been bothering me since the show aired.

Since the flashback scene looks like it took place in the '70s (or late-'60s). This leads me to believe that MBC takes place in the '80s and not just a city were it's perpetually the '80s.

The setting of the stuntman culture clearly happened on the outskirts of Moonbeam City. In the dive bar Dazzle and Razzle have drinks at, the bartender outright calls the former a "city boy". It's likely that they just do things differently out there given how much more rugged and lacking in pastels it is.

The first episode is rocky, but you don't really get what the show is doing until after a few episodes. Dazzle becoming a robot dolphin is a real turning point. The show is everything BUT a cop show. Okay so in this weeks episode during Dazzle's flashback, Dazzle said he was "15 years old in the hot, sticky center of the greatest summer of my life" which I take as a reference to the 1984 hit song "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams in which he references being a young kid. This leads us to believe that Moonbeam City is set during the 1980s.

1) Has anybody said how many episodes are going to be in this season?
2) What would be considered "good ratings" for this show?

>yes
But it's just an 80's synth vice inspired show.

That game was awesome. I later played FC3 sometime after playing BD and felt that original game was boring as hell compared to BD.

I really hope they make a BD2.

They're slated for 10 episodes.

Don't know. TV ratings are weird unreliable, but they're really the only gold standard they got. A show may not do so great according to the Nielsen ratings, but if they generate enough positive buzz from reviews and internet video clip view counts, an organization like Viacom/CC may consider a renewing the show. Vice versa, if a show gets panned as crap, but draws in millions, then it's a no-brainer.

Another thing to consider is the cost of production. MBC uses computer-based animation which is generally pretty cheap, but the VA talent are also on-screen actors which usually cost a bit more and are harder to schedule with and I imagine eats up a lot of the budget. If CC thinks that they can get better results with another program, they'd probably be quick to drop it. And since MBC immediately leads CC's flagship show, The Daily Show which has been floundering for a while, CC may either move the show to a different time slot of cancel it entirely.

The truth is MBC reviews have been from bad to mediocre at best. You can bet that CC knows that. New shows that wait after their initial run don't have a good track record of getting picked up for a new season. CC does however have a history of running mediocre shows for a couple of seasons before dropping them. So who knows?

Every time I see that character on the left (they've used her a couple of times in the background), I think of the tranny hooker in American Dad.

I have no problem with there being Chrysalis fans. In fact, I encourage it.

They just need to make sure that they know their place.

In the èrevious episode they show that before the discovery of neon deposits the world was in sepia.
Pay attention before speculating fcs
