I only thing I really don't get is that pretty much all the fights in this show have been between the characters. Grimm. Every human being on this planet know what they are. We've spent our whole lives behind walls built to protect ourselves from them. Dedicated a massive portion of our everyday lives to their extermination. Why do they die when held in captivity?

The answer, I think, is hidden within us.

Much of the known knowledge on these creatures is that they are attracted to negative emotions, most commonly fear. It is the one thing we know: The more we fear, the more are attracted. This is the key. I submit that these monsters are not merely creatures DRAWN to fear...

...They are creatures OF fear.

The Grimm breed from it, they are sustained by it. They are extra dimensional creatures of our mind. Every aspect of their being seems as if it is designed to evoke fear. Their shapes are of wild beasts, insects, snakes, and cultural avatars of death like crows or ravens. Their colors are night black, blood red, and bone white. They are intelligent, but of a single-minded malevolence. They are designed to evoke fear because that is how they survive.

My theory is the reason these creatures perish in captivity is because being captured and being studied removes conditions these creatures need to survive. We do not fear the beast in the cage. We do not fear what we understand. Bereft of this fear, these creatures waste away, just like an animal without sustenance. It is here we find the key to defeating them; not in militaries and walls, but in knowledge and education. After all, fear is a natural emotion. But with effort we can make this world a safer one through the purifying fire of enlightenment.

I'm more or less in the same boat minus the angry co-workers and I've really gotten into weightlifting. There's a good sense of satisfaction when you can see your squats and benchpresses slowly creep upward and the definition form on you. It's a good feel man.
