no one cares so i guess i'll do the thread
I can see how someone could confuse the name of the comic for "Hitball" at this point though
Honestly I don't really like the fact that the supportive cast are all slowly gaining crazy perks like Cody's super kung fu deadly dodging skills, or Lisa's weird headlock deathtouch no jutsu thingy.
It can works in a comical context, but not in a supposed intense moment.
Maybe it's just my memory failing me, but I don't remember ever feeling like the Namek Arc was dragging on forever. To me - to my child self from long ago, at least - Namek always felt like the main setting of DBZ, especially since it kicked off so early; defeating Frieza before he obtained immortality by means of the dragonballs felt like the core objective all along, so it never seemed to me like it was dragging on: because it never occured to me that there was anything left to do after that. To me, the Androids and the Cell Arcs always felt like afterthought plots.
If American news and dramas like CSI had anything to taught me, it'll be because of the local water supply. And in that one future ep, Max (audience surrogate) and Isaac (because sensitive Spirit World whisperer) will have to investigate why these water sources become this - also with stealth suspicion from Dick Slapper.
It'll be revealed to be contamination by spirit urination as a big call-back.
Does Lisa have super strength now? Normal kids shouldn't be able to restrain Hijack I'd think.
Agreed. Dmitri's kind of a prick, Cody's just asking to be punched in the face, and it feels like Lisa's been downgraded to "strange, quirky kid" from "strange, quirky, and homely kid". Not much of a change for her, but considering how strange everyone in Mayview is she kind of just blends in now.
Hopefully Jeff will revert to his familiar loser self, but I have a feeling he's going to get a lot of pity points from other characters once Hijack ditches him.
Hijack is losing his shit, and probably isn't willing to risk hurting Lisa, since she's not a bully.
Besides, he doesn't need to care if he gets out and loses the game, he accomplished what he needed to.
If you were only reading on /co/, it'd be completely possible to forget what the fuck was going on after 7 months.
How many people remember that Violet has been holding a keyboard over the Coach's head for 5 months?
Sorry Zack, your made up game isn't interesting enough to follow to keep everyone up to speed on what exactly is going on and why.
Personally I'm a little confused about the little girl apparently overpowering this supposedly super-sayan vein monster that's been depicted as having super-human strength for a good part of this chapter.
Yes, I'm aware, but him being revealed puts him in the confirmed roster.
It's like when Ichigo's dad became a Soul Reaper.
Technically, he already was, but he only counts after it's revealed.
>Zack is apparently falling into the shounen trope where every character gets some kind of super power
That's a classic hack writer trap. It shows they don't know how to write normie foils, so they make it so nobody is a normie. You see it happen in bad Western superhero comics a lot too.
>its a JoJo thing.
Fuck OFF. You make the rest of us look bad you casual piece of shit. Muh references is the most entry level jojo shit imaginable and spamming it everywhere makes you no better than HSG or fucking /mlp/.
Read it but bring it up when it's relevant. Not everything is a reference, some things are just naturally similar.
No, I mean we have all known that Dimitry was a spectral from the beginning.
It's never been actually said but there was always a black guy in the flashback fights and he is the only black guy in the comic.
It would be like Ichigo's dad having what ever the soul reaper's swords are called hanging on the wall from the first episode.
>It's never been actually said but there was always a black guy in the flashback fights and he is the only black guy in the comic
Well, of course you know, but still.
Zack could always hack it up and say that it was Jamal from art class who we've conveniently never seen.
Now that Dimitry has shown superpowers, he's basically confirmed.
No he's right.
Besides, how dare you defend Z/hacks current art. His colouring has been shit for years now. It was much better in the soft tones of his first attempts. Just marry that with the line art from the first school day and you'd be golden.
Wait. That's just late chapter one and it remains the best style he's done.
Nigga, talented black and white is a shitload better than this washed out, pastel abortion.
For fuck's sake, even the flat colors look better than the finished product
They're exploiting his weakness. His conscience.
Although, I think he was aiming for Max the very first time he tried to injure a student, so I'm not sure why he's saying "N-no, I didn't mean t--" now.
Presumably that line isn't conscience related, and just the fact that he dun goofed.
> he is the only black guy in the comic
No, he isn't. There's that student council kid with the clown eyebrows.
> He's like a lesser Issac
I kinda miss his presence, now that you've mentioned it.
Not gonna lie, all the kids standing up and charging back into the game does sort of hype me up a bit.
Second, and not anymore after her redesign
Okay so if Max is obviously Goku and Johnny is obviously Vegeta, then dies that make Isabel Piccolo? And is Ed Krillin? Is Suzy Bulma?
And who the hell is Yamcha?
This is raising too many questions.
>in two hundred pages they leave the bar after having ordered a drink and discussed the weather. Only to cut back to the bar the are currently in now having thoroughly flash backed the mostly irrelevant day prior.
I wanna say something. You are totally right and that anon is silly, but I do want to mention that people get hostile responses just for mentioning something passingly reminds them of Jojo these days. It makes me sad, considering it didn't use to be this way.
It's because the new influx of jojo fags especially the anime only kind ruined it for everyone. Hell, I've seen whole threads on /co/ of all places dedicated to jojo crossover fanart. They just don't have a filter.
>It makes me sad, considering it didn't use to be this way
That's only because JoJofags decided to be pony levels of obnoxious.
>tiny inset panel
>webcomics kid is on one side of dimitri, Cody on the other
>larger panel a microsecond later
>webcomics sports anime kid has teleported into cody's place
where did best boy go, the phantom zone?
You can see his legs and hoodie next to Dimitri still. He probably doesn't want to get involved since Jeff is still his BFF.
He's probably just wondering where the real Jeff went.
So does every single update always have a "reblogable face"?
Like a face that's just there so they can use it for a icon to tell everyone they updated, or for people to use as "avatars" or "reaction images"?
This isn't a negative thing. I find it more interesting if nothing else. Although the fact that it's obviously calculated is a bit questionable.
Paranatural has been noted since like the chapter 2 era, if not earlier, as a reaction image gold mine.
That's just what he says when catching his breath in between having dicks shoved down his throat.
>Just left him with a mannequin head.
Heh, Zack did the unusual unnecessary stylization today. Kinda makes this change [pic related] quite tame by comparison.
But Lisa belongs with Violet, you quadruple demon.
Wow, you're right. The DOORS SUCK kid would have to move his right side more forward than his left to block our vision of Cody, he (or at least his legs would have been at the blonde pigtails girl's place at 2nd panel...?
...I don't even know how perspective works anymore.
At least Cody kept his face's shape more or less.
Lisa looks like she has a pill capsule for a head now.
He's shit and has lost considerable style listening to tubmlr pleasing hacks who are more than happy to appease their sensibilities and coast along never challenging themselves. Like GiGi
Remember when RJ's shadowy hood made sense?
Fucking JJBA is a weird turn from JJBA, I mean seriously what the fuck. We went from Vampires to whatever the fuck Cars was to goddamn Part 3 and then Part 4 was fucking slice of life (but with wacky ghost powers and Duwang) and now I'm in Part 5 and we're in Italy.
It amazes me how good PNat was, considering how young he was.
He's like an artistic Benjamin Button
[Forgive the awful MSPaintjob, by the way]
I'm worried. Is favorite artists losing what drew me to them in the first place going to be a trend?
That's Webcomcs Sports Anime kid.
He and Nightmare Knight Gijinka probably won't appear again now that they've cameo'd.
It's just that Hitball is so long that the cameos are still happening.
Oh yeah, the flying snatch thing if grabbed gets your whole team back in the game.
Christ I really do not give a shit about this hitball any more. This game could have been stopped in a numerous amount of, one of which would just be running away.
You don't know that.
Maybe Violet has been hitting Coach Oop repeatedly over those 5 months and he's only just starting to stir from his flash gamez stupor.
You forgot the invisible mohawk.
You seem like a guy with good opinions, Malaysianon. You have a skype?
First of all: you sure I live there, anon? :^)
Nah, I'm kidding you. Of course I do, I'm probably one of a few people active in this thread while people in your place are most likely to be sleeping as we speak. Either me or that Indofag. Eh, we PNAT fans can be quite international.
Second , do I have Skype...never had it, never will.
Did you not connect the dots to his big yaoi hands.
> Max confirmed with arm injury
> possibly will meet Dr Zarei for healing
real Persian nametotes suspicious about transparency of Spender's activities
> more chances for Max to ask about the AC
...but wait a minute.
> "It's one of them!"
> PAC kids tool-ready (oof!) going to do serious stuff without Spender's watch
> Spender at other location
> meanwhile at Foreshadowing Bar
...next time Zack has his birthday, let's give him:
1. a happy birthday greeting
2. some optional PNAT fanart (funny / slash / both)
3. a request to REVISE all his future scripts so they can be as managable as the previous pre-Ghost Train chapters.
Wait...you serious? I don't think we need those drastic measures to just talk about パラナチュラル, we're ANONYMOUSLY safe here. I'd rather keep my low profile too, it's better this way.
, creds down bel-ump
So fucking true... It feels that this has been going on for a year.
Drew something since I'm still up and so is the thread.
That is some lewd shotanatural.
Reminder that Zack turned Dmitri from a character you knew nothing about and who seemed kinda cool into "da chess mastermind" smugfuck over the span of like, two-three pages.
> Webcomic Sports Anime Kid
> "FORBIDDEN ARTES! FIERCE DEMON THROW RISING REVENGEANCE"
Oh wow, that line. I did not use up my recess time in the school library reading English magazines just to deal with this horsemanure of a phrase.
The former, my school usually has the Reader's Digest as a staple.
Can we just move on to pissing on Zack's beloved ship instead?
I had a dream about Paranatural. Hitball ended, but Hijack managed to hijack a math teacher. For her class, instead of doing math, they went to the gym.
To play hitball.
It was a nightmare, /co/.
>Personally I'm a little confused about the little girl apparently overpowering this supposedly super-sayan vein monster that's been depicted as having super-human strength for a good part of this chapter.
Hijack is not willing to attack non-bullies. Latest page has him hamhandedly trying to apologize for breaking Max's arm.
Of course he wouldn't even lift a finger against Lisa unless he had seen her being a shithead towards someone else before. Even if he had balls to throw, I doubt he'd do anything against anyone that wasn't Johnny or his crew.
It's really not that hard to follow what's going on, and even less hard to go back and reread the thing - it won't take you 7 months to do so.
I remember when these threads were nothing but praise, theories, and R34 all over the place. Such good memories, huh? But now you're in "I need to keep the pretense of being mad at Zack because of reasons" mode and there's no good place to discuss this comic anymore.
Anyone else here hype for the last pages of Hitball?
>Anyone else here hype for the last pages of Hitball?
Yeah, I have confidence the threads and the comic will get a bit better again. Just so long as we don't speak of Hitball EVER AGAIN!
Also it's dragged on for so long I've forgotten a lot of the plot. Might have to do a re-read.
Come on, anon. Be real. These threads are not gonna get less bitter no matter what. The bar scene in this chapter will also seem too long to people. If Zarei shows up and patches up Max's arm, people will cry bullshit. Look at how they treated the Dimitri reveal.
It's kinda stupid how they're bitter for the sake of looking bitter. Zack doesn't like 4chan, big fucking surprise. Whatever.
The initial /co/ threads did a lot to spread initial popularity. When he was small and needed it he paid attention and wasn't a massive faggot. Once /co/ threads had done their job and he started getting web comic brownie points he joined the hive, hob knobbed with fuck heads, betrayed his old friends over a joke and decried /co/.
Yes, people are bitter but Z/hack is also a major kuck and a SJW, or at the very least an apologist. He deserves all the ire he gets and more. He never had to agree with /co/. He never even really needed to like it, just respect it for the role it played and the fact that they were still fans of his work. Instead he shits on everyone.
In an even more amusing turn of events, leading up to his pompous outbursts and eventual rejection of /co/ his art degraded into fuck awful colouring and meme facial expressions every panel he could jam them in while bombing narratively as well leaving pacing on the floor lost and forgotten.
All hate is justified
Apparently someone on the PNAT subreddit had pointed out that Zack seems to be writing this chapter as if it was made to be printed...as in he's trying to making printed Paranatural a reality. Probably about time for Zack to fulfil his long overdue promise, I guess.
I love reading old paranatural pages.
>The initial /co/ threads did a lot to spread initial popularity. When he was small and needed it he paid attention
None of that is true.
/co/ did help, I don't see how we can tell if it helped more than other places though. Just assuming it did seems like self centeredness bordering on solipsism.
Or that he paid attention to us at all, unless someone brought it to him directly, like /co/decracking.
He didn't consider it a moral imperative to look down on bigotry in the smug social slacktivist way earlier, that's all.
>He didn't consider it a moral imperative to look down on bigotry in the smug social slacktivist way earlier, that's all.
And his friend JR hadn't typed his Tumblr rants yet. We don't even know if he decided to make a change because of JR and not because of Gigi.
Yes, /co/ might not have spawned the dumbass who called Gigi a nigger, but the act is so like something a 4chan anon would do (and we know the attitude anons have toward Gigi around here) that it's not a surprise that a massive normie like Zack would immediately think it was 4chan. And, well, he also got pestered about Zarei and RJ, but that sounds more like Tumblr dicks would tell him under anon asks - he didn't complain about getting spammed with lewd underage R34 and that's pretty much the only thing that could be believably /co/ exclusive. Or maybe not?
Still, what's an uninformed white dude from NY gonna think? It's obvious.
If anything, the people who act all sour and disappointed are fulfilling Zack's prophecy about him making his comic unpalatable to 4chan. I don't know why they're so dumb as to let him win that one.
>I don't know why they're so dumb as to let him win that one.
The perfect plan.
He tried to drive us away. So we'll love him... out of spite.
cracker quit posting thumbnails
I quit 4chan when I left for uni 4 years ago, I only come back here to bitch about paranatural and some other /co/ stuff once every couple of weeks or so, I have absolutely no loyalty to this place I just find every update disappointing these days which has nothing to do with the author's personal opinions.
If you disagree then I guess you just like lower quality webcomics anon.
>Apparently someone on the PNAT subreddit had pointed out that Zack seems to be writing this chapter as if it was made to be printed
I'm a comic writer myself and I don't see that at all. It's just unnecessary lengthening because all he knows is uncut DBZ.
January 2012 someone probably linked the /co/ thread in the comments section.
Bodypillow was our April Fool's Prank in 2013. And he totally fell for it... haha...
>3. a request to REVISE all his future scripts so they can be as managable as the previous pre-Ghost Train chapters.
>yeah i get that, you're not the only person with Hitball Fatigue. i'm ready for it to be over, too. it was the same way with the moment-to-moment train action in chapter four.
>if you're nostalgic for the pacing of early Paranatural, that's not going away.
but i'd hold fast to the assertion that the kind of story i'm writing benefits from arcs of slower moment-to-moment action, especially when you're reading through the archives.
>I would so much rather have pages not at all in color, and updated three times a week
You'd want this?
And want to lose things in the narrative that can only be conveyed in color, like donating your skin tone?
Zack has locked himself into having the comic in full colors by having Chrono Cross color compatibility as a plot point.
Ah the Isaac bodypillow, I miss those days of youth and innocence.
It would be more confusing than reading the official Four Swords+ manga.
The nostalgia isn't going away.
The pacing is gone forever.
So far there's only two kinds of powered humans in PNat, mediums and spectrals.
Dimitri's super fast hand thing is actually more reminiscent of mediums.
Which brings me to another thing: why is everybody possessed?
At this point, most of the characters with powers are, the exceptions being Isabelle and Ed.
It's not that special, apparently
Yeah, but when you oversaturate the cool thing, it starts getting less cool.
Granted, PNat is so slow that this hasn't become a problem yet, but as of now we're waiting for elaboration on at least three major possessions in the comic, The thing in Max, the Thing in Spender, both of which are apparently super bad, and Forge in Johnny.
Gee, I sure wish we hadn't spent a goddamn year on dodgeball.
> Forge in Johnny
Obligatory "Johnny already a menacing antagonist on his own, like the idea of him getting possessed but it's too soon" and big sigh.
The way things are trending now is that Johnny seems slated to be fully redeemed, with Isaac actually defecting over to the side Forge was fighting for, being fed up with the AC and all.
That'd be kind of interesting, seeing as Johnny is actually possessed by a spirit of that faction, and him working with Spender would some, pun intended, internal conflict within him.
>Johnny seems slated to be fully redeemed
But he still has his very loyal, very loving friends. He can't just simply stop being a part of what they had been building themselves up as "Mayview Middle School's Most Notorious".
> with Isaac actually defecting over to the side Forge was fighting for, being fed up with the AC and all.
Defection would be a possiblity considering how desperate Isaac is in the current situation he's having, especially where people at his age tend to be quite gullible in their actions.
But I don't think Isaac would really go all-final-villain-mode, though I might be affected by how Zack had canonized what's going to happen in that famous wallpaper, which implies that Isaac is going to be redeemed too - the point was kinda emphasized in every encounter with Doorman too, Isaac had given himself a bad reputation unintentionally and tries to be a better spectral as he can learning form his mistakes. Turning him straight into a villain would kinda negate all the struggles he did and they'll become so meaningless. [see pic related]
And should Isaac become the ultimate villain and he becomes defeated, would people still care for the sensitive 12-yo human side of him that's underneath the volatile spectral body that was?
What if the story ends there - we'll never see Isaac trying to makes amends with the AC and we will never get to see Isaac getting a second hopeful chance at spectral life?I'm kinda worried at the potential Darkness Induced Audience Apathy here, to be honest with you.
If Isaac did defect for a bit, he'd probably be never be portrayed as evil, but rather confused and hurt.
Also, what if Johnny started hunting spirits on his own, with Forge kind of leading him into working for him. He and his group could secretly hunt spirits while trying to gain insight on the Activity Club
>And should Isaac become the ultimate villain
Storm God is a blowhard and when Isaac inevitably gets fed up of his bullshit and auto-exorcises, they'll bring him into the fold right afterwards. Plus, Isaac looks more like the dumb kid that has a lot of growing up to do and will probably be influenced by Max to do so.
In fact, it's more likely for Max to become corrupted by whatever entity he's secretly housing; or, well, there's still Richard Spender
> If Isaac did defect for a bit, he'd probably be never be portrayed as evil, but rather confused and hurt.
I read from some of the Disqus comments and the lurked tumblr posts that how they were really feeling what Isaac had some point in their lives - the need to be accepted by their friends and needing guidance for new situations that need to be understood, "am I doing this right?" "Please tell me if the thing I do here is wrong," or something like that...maybe.
I'm more worried that the turn of events that would be so depressing would give the message of "Fuck you, people who endure problems the same way as him will never get any mercy!", and thus the DIAA will manifest. That be so jarring from what the spirit [ahem] of the comic is from the start: fantastical thrilling, light-hearted(?) adventures and the anticipation of something awesome + meaningful. I dunno, maybe a bit of humanity would help with some levity.
> Still, Vader became good again
I must confess, I never got around to watch the rest of the Star Wars movies other than III....so I have no idea what exactly you're referencing.
But I can see what you mean. Max's going to cut all the bullshit on the dubious shenanigans (Boss Leader's suspicions around Spender, the Isaac Question, the not-so-united Activity Club etc) around the place he depends on to survive the spectral life in general.
>Isaac looks more like the dumb kid that has a lot of growing up to do
You know, I wish we could see more of Isaac's normal class and maybe also his family - being the only special among the family of muggles. Maybe we can see more of how he acts around them and how his character was molded to be, then we'll see if he deserves being as an angsty jerk-off and whether he deserves that calling out from Max.
Also, to prove the theory of post-possession physical manifestations.
Yep! Hope you're fucking ready for more fucking hitball!
>I must confess, I never got around to watch the rest of the Star Wars movies other than III
>There are people who've only seen the prequels
It'd probably be like that episode of Bleach where Rukia helps Chad fight a hollow.
Johhny could tell the kids where the spirit was and use the friendship formations to suppliment his powers.
As a medium, his powers will be visible to his friends.
It's like the difference between the Star Wars prequels and the original trilogy. The new pages have so much color and stuff going on in the foreground. The older pages are kind of grody, and they have so much more life and voice to how they're drawn, plus the backgrounds actually exist.
>French anons were jihaded before Hitball ended
If he decided to just do this comic in black and white with screentones, like how manga is usually done, would it save time or would it take as long as if he just colored it normally?
I wanted to see how true this was. I think what it loses most is the spectral color-coding, but I think with some more thinking there'd probably be a way to get around that with screentones.
What do you guys think? Is it better or worse?
Here's the original page for comparison
There's no way to get around the spectral color thing with screentones. While using different tones can still theoretically distinguish each color, he'd have to literally have a reminder on every page of what color is associated with which tone. It just makes a lot more sense for things to be color so we can clearly see on our own and avoid unnecessary exposition.
But yeah if it wasn't for the spectral color I'm sure he could do it ok, but I doubt it'd have any effect on updates.
I think it actually works very well here, considering the original colors are very strange in the color version.
They're skintones are very yellow, but not like in a human way, but in a Mona Lisa way.
That's a good point, I doubt most people (myself included) would be able to remember what pattern represents each color constantly, especially with the update rate.
Maybe he should just go back to his selective coloring like at the start. Also, I never realized that his dad had that shirt too. I completely forgot about it
This is honestly the most infuriating aspect of Hitball.
Nearly everything stopped dead in its track for Hitball.
With the exception of a few cutaways and half begun conversations about actual plot, the whole of the last seven months has been hitball.
Honestly, there needs to be a B-Plot going alongside Hitball so we aren't just tediously bored.
Why not have Ed go to Spender. Ed is supposed to be getting more screentime this chapter, and he's done nothing for the past 6 months but sit on a bench.
There are so many plot threads dangling and we've ignored them all for nearly a year. All so Zack can do a parody no one wanted
Suzy and Colin went up on the bleachers just to get away from Jeff THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN.
Many Shockodiles did. They were free to stop faking being out at any time.
I think this was Lisa's last appearance?
Wait, I'm confused about the barrier around Mayview.
Who does it block?
Is it spectrals only?
spirits and spectrals. it's quite explicit. nothing else.
Great idea! Nice work on your edits too. I wouldn't mind reading it this way
