Criminals in comics tend to be more evil/stupid than in RL or even than their own previous characterizations. Even the "non-criminals" (I say that in quotes because those wives managed to be more evil than their husbands) have beaten the shit out of spider-woman.
We know she'll never actually get hurt from from an in universe perspective that isn't a realistic expectation even before the pregnancy.
