Holy fuck I finished watching the episode 30 minutes ago and I'm still hysterical as fuck.

The credits scene was dark as fuck, just hearing the chaos without showing it was so clever. The animation as always is top fucking notch in that scene too like wow. If Alex Hirsch can end this series right Gravity Falls rightly deserves to be called one of the greatest cartoons of all time, or at least this decade. Not many cartoons know how to go all out like this and execute it so well. Jesus fuck.

>>
>>76609031

Getting real for a sec here a lot of you guys just have a hateboner for Mabel. You hated her way before this episode.

She's a little girl who got upset after having a very rough day.

She and Dipper both thought they could trust Blendin. And she thought the globe was just a toy.

If Ford had been honest with everyone about the rift, about how dangerous Bill was, not to mention it's his fault that Bill built the portal through him in the first place, none of this would have happened.

Ford made infinitely more mistakes over a much longer time despite being a "genius" and an adult.

Hateboners aside no, this was much more Ford's fault.
>>
>>76609116

It's not that I dislike it or anything. I just... I don't know. I usually need some swearing or tits because I'm pathetic. It's fun and creative and it's actually got some decent horror elements.

I don't know if this is intentional but that's actually a really good acknowledgement of Grunkle Stan's influence on the twins, that Mabel ends up going through on this act of theft. It makes sense that after treating Stan's crimes so lightly all summer she's willing to commit them herself.

Mabel: "Weeelllll.....OKAY! What could go wrong!"

Ford is nothing like Mabel in his personality, behavior, or interests.
>>
>>76609706

Mabel did make mistakes, but seeing her as being as culpable as Ford is stupid. We're not talking Mabel vs. Dipper here, but Mabel vs. Ford. And Ford is far more selfish. He literally gives no shits for anything but his own ego. Stan, Fiddleford could tell you about that. That doesn't mean he's not an interesting character here but he's more to blame than anyone.
>>
>>76609629

Stan will realize he doesn't need Ford once he sees how he manipulated Dipper. Ford will always be mad, and Stan will finally let go.

I feel like this episode tried to tackle too much and dropped a bunch of shit instead of letting it progress gradually (they easily could've swapped out Roadside Attraction/Stanchurian Candidate for something else like more Dipper/Ford interactions), I think they could've executed the Mabel thing a lot better and Blendin appearing out of fucking nowhere is jarring.

Since Gideon appears in the teaser, I suspect that will be answered in the next episode.

Possessing Blendin might also be a requirement for breaking Gideon out of prison, if that was Bill's side of the deal with him. A time traveller with a high tech camouflage sneak suit is probably your best bet for breaking a guy out of a high security prison.

Hypothetically, if he wasn't Bill, maybe he saw that Dipper and Mable had a falling out after the summer, so he went back in time to offer her a chance to extend summer so that she could have more than a week to come to terms with her brother leaving. If that were that case, appearing before her right then would have been the best time to do it.

Of course, it's a moot point, since he was just Bill.
>>
Is anyone else mildly concerned that Mabel willing made a decision to pursue a literally infinite summer which would have resulted in her never seeing her parents again?

I mean it's one thing to wist about things ending and wishing for more time but as far as Mabel knew she was being offered an actual, never ending summer born from time travel fuckery in Gravity Falls for ever, and her never returning to her parents isn't even brought up.

Stan doesn't know about Bill, he very conspicuously is the only one among Dipper, Mabel, Ford, and Soos who hasn't interacted with Bill. He apparently isn't the one to get possessed for the rift. So what's going to happen? They have to meet eventually, and I have a feeling it's going to be very significant somehow.

Is not a good time to get back into gravity falls? I think the last episode I saw was about time traveling to get mabel a pig I think? I heard that a new season started and that people we're really liking it.

Since Bill does seem to be forced to hold up his end of the bargain, my guess is that:
>Bill has actually created a time bubble to trap Gravity Falls in an endless summer that makes it impossible for time travelers to get in or out
>Because of the phrasing of the wish, this only lasts for as long as Mabel wants it to. As a result, he's trapped her in an endless dream where summer continues forever.
>The only way to stop Bill is to go back in time and stop him from getting the rift, but in order to do this they need to wake Mabel up to end the time bubble first

This all could have been avoided if Ford told Mabel about the rift. Not what purpose it served or whatever, but just "don't touch this thing".

Disregarding the Mabel fiasco, I have one question: Just what the fuck happened to the retarded-ass schedule and long-ass hiatuses? I mean, we've been getting new episodes every three weeks since July, and considering some of the atrocious waiting times from the past, it's baffling that the show finally has a competent schedule.

Dipper didn't mention missing his parents ONCE, only Mabel. Mabel gave the rift to Blendin BlandBill pretty quickly. I figured that their parents were going through a divorce or a rough patch, which is why they had the kids sent away. I think it's been explicitly mentioned that Dipper, at least, has pretty much no friends back home, just vidya and conspiracy theories. Mabel can make friends out of anyone, but she gets attached quickly; she wasn't upset that she was leaving Grenda and Candy, just that they're time would be cut short.

After Tale of Two Stans I knew there'd be a long fuck hiatus, I figured there'd be no new shit forever. I think that's why I'm feeling so raw about this being the big finale. Not only are there a lot of loose ends that might not be tied up, but the scheduling has been so terrible. Being fed only scraps every now and then makes for a conclusion with far less impact.

Of course. Mabel pulled the trigger, but Ford and Dipper didn't explain to her the full scale of what was going on. Now, see, it's like this: Ford and Dipper are giving their all to save the world at the expense of their family; if they didn't do that, then the world is doomed and their family suffers still. It's simply choosing the option that leaves the least amount of victims behind. Ford knew that, Dipper was beginning to see that.

After all, the one who destroyed the world was the impulsive, short-sighted sibling, not the one with the greater vision and sense of duty.

Their family who they purposefully chose to exclude. Ford, because he's a spiteful baby who doesn't deserve Stan, and Dipper because, well Ford told him to. And Ford was the one who brought Bill here in the first place, and made the deal, and built the portal, and relies on a 12 year old to help solve his problems, and doesn't understand Dipper and Mabel's relationship and projects his own emotional hangups onto Dipper. Ford's manipulation is the same as Bill's.

What Mabel was willing to give away and what she was after were on such a different level from Dipper that the situations don't hold up as parallels.

I enjoy the show. It's made with parents watching alongside their children in mind. Video games are made with college dudebros and recluses in mind. Admittedly, it seems the same could be said for a lot of other cartoons these days. I have a hard time imagining Adventure Time's target audience being anything besides college aged hipsters without kids, for instance.
>>
>>76611299
Ford didnt need Dipper at all to get the glue. The whole point of the trip was to convince Dipper to stay with him. Ford did it because he wanted an apprentice for himself. He wanted to pull Dipper away from his friends and family all to pass down his own legacy. That is incredibly selfish, and a massive burden to put on a 12 year old. In any other context this would be cult like.

This anon makes a good point, though I disagree about the situations not being parallels.

All four members of the Pines family are remarkably shitty people, but Ford and Dipper just barely pull out ahead for me because they at least have a noble cause of discovering new knowledge, even if their reasons for wanting it are not totally altruistic. Stan and Mabel's goals are entirely hedonistic in nature.

Like I said, for the greater good. Extraterrestrial tech, dimensional hopping, time travel, cryptids, protecting the world from otherworldy demons like Bill - those take precedence.

>And Ford was the one who brought Bill here in the first place
He has to atone. If he doesn't do that, then his family would be destroyed alongside the world anyway.

>and relies on a 12 year old to help solve his problems
The one 12yo that seems smarter than everybody else in his family, especially than his sister.

That episode was not about boy feels, it was about Dipper trying to bring his feels to a total of 0, or neutality
He hurt 4 girls feels directly, and 2 indirectly in that episode
That is a total of 4f + (2f)/2, or 5f
Keep in mind that 1f = 5m, where f is the moral value of female feelings and m is the value of male feelings
Dipper ends that episode with -.5m, which is -.1f, and that is basically nothing compared to -5f

Are you daft? Dipper needed to gain confidence. Dipper was unsure of where he was going, why he was doing anything, let alone anything other than the life he was told to live by school and parents, and (to Ford and Stan's level of age) was letting such a small thing as his 13th birthday totally bring him down. It's a great bunch of messages for the younger viewers: Don't let life get you down. You are the hero, if you just do what's right. Having potential is not the same as using that potential in your life to become a better person. And a fave Mark Twain quote: Don't let school get in the way of your education.

I agree with all of that. For me, this episode took Ford's status from "morally questionable" to "no concept of adult responsibility at all".

It's one thing to treat kids with an appropriate amount of respect and try to prepare them for a dangerous world instead of sheltering them from it. But it's something else entirely to manipulate a kid who hero worships you into being your mini-me and encourage him to trade his family for the promise of a "higher calling".

Even if he thinks he's doing this with Dipper's best interest at heart (and I'm sure he does, because he can't see Dipper and Mabel's relationship without the lens of his and Stans), it's still shady as fuck.

Dipper risks his life for Ford without a moments hesitation. He hurls himself onto a spacepod with no idea what will happen. There was a very real possibility they would have both died. This man, whom Dipper met less than a month ago? Who Dipper, just two episodes ago, didn’t trust? He was 100% willing to risk everything for the sake of saving Ford, and Ford not only accepted this behavior, but encouraged it.

Not only did Dipper risk everything for Ford, after all, but he also risked breaking the Rift. Ford was GLAD to know that Dipper would die for him, even rewarded the action. He didn’t scold Dipper for being needlessly reckless. He didn’t scold Dipper for risking the fate of the planet. He just begged Dipper, a twelve year old child, to join him in discovering the supernatural, which he all know is an incredibly dangerous task. Ford doesn’t “care” about Dipper in the way that Stan and Mable do. He said it himself, when he looks at Dipper he just sees himself. He views Dipper as another experiment or project. He ignores what’s best for Dipper and instead pushes Dipper to follow in his own footsteps so he can mold Dipper into whatever he sees fit. He probably just views Dipper as his second chance.

Dipper, who would apparently follow this man to the end of the earth, is being severally taken advantage of by a man who he’s supposed to be able to trust. It kind of reminds me of a Harry/Dumbledore situation and they’ve always been a red flag to me. Ford entrusts Dipper with all his secrets, expects his help on all these secret missions, intentionally comes between him and Mabel, and has no qualms about putting a twelve year old in life threatening situations.

While Ford is an ass, and this could have been easily prevented if he had just told the rest of his family about the rift, I feel compelled to defend him. He wasn't originally going to tell even Dipper about the rift, because he didn't feel he could handle it (and he was kinda right, that's pretty heavy stuff for a 12 year old).

I still think the main reason why he didn't tell the others is because he didn't see why he should make them worry about it. Especially since Stan and Mabel could potentially feel guilty since it's technically their actions that caused it to happen.
>>
>>76611743

Great summary. I've been arguing the same angle for a while now--that Ford deliberately chose Dipper to groom as his assistant because he'd be unfailingly loyal in a crisis.

Ford may be fighting for a good cause, but he's endangering Dipper and abusing his trust. It's not okay.

> He seemed pretty resigned to his fate, I doubt he wanted Dipper to risk his life for him.

I think that for Ford, it's not about himself. He's dedicated to his calling and the mission of stopping Bill. He was shouting at Dipper to take care of the Rift because it was the number one priority and next to it his own safety was insignificant. I'm sure he wouldn't hesitate to throw his own life away to make a difference.

In his own way, and certainly in his own mind, Ford is heroic. He's probably developed that rationale over the course of a hard and dangerous lifetime.

Unfortunately, it's an extremely unhealthy mindset to push onto a young protege. Notice how he didn't scold Dipper for putting himself in harms way, or discourage him from endangering himself at any point in the episode. Ford's intentions are noble, but he's a bad mentor for Dipper, plain and simple.

Nah, that would be his chance at redemption, him extending the olive branch to see if his brother would do the right thing. He was rightfully angry, but they should've talked more before they activated a death machine.

Dude, seriously? That's still a pretty fucking huge deal. Getting accepted with a scholarship to a great college and not wasting time and money on more education is a huge deal. I don't think it was a "fuck you get thrown out idiot" I think he was honestly so blown away by the shit Stan pulled he couldn't muster a response when his parents got angry at him for him. You're sayin you'd be completely able to forgive your brother for sabotaging your life and putting you in a shitty situation for years? I'd be fucking speechless.

Bill was charming to the kids in the literally two episodes he interacted with them, he kind of came off as just a silly guy who liked to cause problems. Yeah, the Big Bad thing was there but they defeated him so laughably he seemed more like a wannabee than anything.

Ain't laughin now.
>>
>>76612091
Ford is is very utilitarian that way. He has no problem risking his life for the sake of the universe and he was pissed at Stan for reactivating the portal for that very reason. But he can be self-centered still especially in his dealings with Stan.

I agree Ford isn't a good influence on Dipper. On the other hand, Dipper does WANT to do this kind of stuff with Ford. It's not like he hasn't willingly put himself in harms way for the sake of mysteries before Ford was ever in the picture. Still, he shouldn't have taken Dipper on this particular mission. It's not like he needed him to come along.
>>
>>76612233
the fuck are you on about? He had to work really hard to get into college, and to get scholarships, shit he wouldn't have had to do if his brother didn't fuck it up for him.

That is a lot of work in the real world, work he already did and had to do again.

It was a school he had just learned of literally days ago. Ford clearly never had any plans for college. If he was so fucking smart that he could make an Ayn Rand sex machine he could have found scholarships elsewhere, theres nothing forcing him to immediately enter college, especially in the early 70s.

Also didnt Ford say he finished a year early? Even if he went to west tech he'd still be spending 7-8 years. What at all prevented him from looking for more scholarships during freshman, sophmore, junior, senior year? What prevented him from transferring after his first year or attending graduate school elsewhere? Also by going to Backupsmore his classes would be easy as fuck. Ford has 12 PHDs, does it really matter?

I think the "Bill is not the Big Bad" theories get less and less likely each time he appears. The next episode has him as some kind of damn Hindu God of Destruction and he says "the world is MINE," not "the world is theirs" or "ours."

He's also been foreshadowed from the beginning and there's no way some new character chucked in at the last minute is going to measure up.

Unless GF gets dragged out and they decide to redeem Bill because that's what shows do with popular villains I think he's pretty much It.

It’s funny, how many people were theorizing that Ford was, in fact, evil. That he wanted something bad to happen, for one reason or another. That he was a villain.

But in the end, what we got was… worse, to me. Scarier, even.

Because Ford is not a cackling evil villain, he’s just… self-centered. Clueless, in so many ways. And he doesn’t even realize that.

He doesn’t realize the extent of Stan’s feelings to him. Of what those 30 years of self hating, of working, of studying things he didn’t understand or wanted to understand at all, of risking que universe’s fate just for the chance of saving Ford, of seeing him again, meant to him.

He doesn’t realize what the Mystery Shack means to him, either. That it was the first time Stan was able to settle down, that Stan was able to manage a business and live a relatively comfortable life and provide for himself; that he built a name for himself, that he was finally able to feel useful and good at something.

His view on Stan is superficial. To him, he can get by, because of his charming and boisterous personality, and that’s about it.

Because the truth is… he doesn’t see him as an equal. Because Stan is not a genius. Because Stan acts without thinking, acts based on his gut.

Because Stan is someone capable of working relentlessly on fixing a portal he knows nothing about, just moved on the genuine feeling of loving his brother.

Ford can’t understand that. Ford doesn’t want to understand that.

Because this is his persona. Ford took the best trait he had, his intelligence, and built his whole life about it, as a way to cast aside the image of ‘freak’, that even he had of himself.

This is where he gets his sense of self worth. He’s logical, he’s smart, he’s a genius. He’s not like Stan, not like the others. This is who he is, and this is how he knows he matters; and that he’s better.

He didn’t feel like a freak for being a loner, anymore. For being different. He felt superior. When people would avoid him, it was because they couldn’t comprehend him; because they weren’t ‘in his level’.

And when he looks at Dipper and Mabel, he sees him and Stanley. He sees someone who’s ‘oh-so-special’, and… ‘the other twin who’s kinda charming, whatever’.

And he doesn’t even realize how unhealthy this way of thinking is; he doesn’t see that you should never, ever make the offer that he did to an impressionable 12-year old boy. That you should never make a child go through the pressure of choosing a career or his family so soon, and so suddenly.

In his mind, he’s doing what’s best for Dipper. After all, it worked for him, didn’t it?

Dipper was willing to give away a shitty sock puppet to Bill, a demon who he knew he shouldn't trust, and Mabel gave away a rinky dinky little snowglobe to a guy she knew and trusted.

She obviously regretted this as soon as she realized that Blendin was possessed and that it was extremely important. She had no idea. If she had known the rift was so important, she'd have said no.

Ford thinks Dipper is more like him, but I think Mabel is more like him.

They're both selfish.

It's the Ford and Mabel Shows for them, all the time.

Compare the way Ford screws Fiddleford to the way Mabel uses Grenda and Candy.
>>
>>76612505
I'm glad you touched on Ford's superiority complex. It's what caused pretty much everything that's happening now and it's why I never considered his intentions completely noble. I don't think they're meant to be.

What sucks is that both Stan and Ford are such flawed characters and have a relationship with such baggage, and now it's to the point where no reconciliation will be satisfactory. That's the kind of relationship you'd want to see them spend episodes slowly starting to fix. Now it'll be quick "I'm sorry" at the end of the world bullshit because there's too much going on and not enough episodes.

Problem is she did it with barely a though. Not a single look at it and a thought about "hey this looks kinda fucking odd, maybe I shouldn't hand this over just yet. Smaller things I've dealt with have been pretty deadly" She just gives it.

Even if Ford told her about it, she still would've given it to him as long as he told her it was only for a second.

>>
>>76612556
IIRC Dipper had a small line when he considered that it might hurt Mabel's feelings.

I think it's more that Mabel was emotionally unstable at the moment than that she assumed it wasn't important. You could use that to justify why she didn't think about how this might affect Dipper/Ford but it still makes her kind of a shitty person especially since she's supposed to be more sensitive to the emotions of others.
>>
>>76612675
But yes it does. It could have just been some weird toy for all she knew.

And the point isn't what Dipper gave vs what Mabel gave. It's about who they gave it to. Dipper's action was about 1000x more retarded because he knew exactly who he was dealing with.
>>
>>76612505
Excellent character analysis, especially
>to him, he can get by, because of his charming and boisterous personality, and that’s about it.
I think Mabel could actually get by without her brother and on charm alone unlike Stan though.

I think this is what scares Stan. That Ford could learn to be by himself while he cant. Even though Stan's not a freak he was always a loser no one wanted around. Recent episodes keep hammering in that Stan is lacking in charm and social skills. He wasn't popular with others at school and his own family had no reaction when the principal flat out said Stan was nothing going nowhere. Stan has always been in the shadow of the intellect of his only friend.
>>
>>76612505

To be fair, though, I don't think Stan not having his brother was his real problem. He's fucked up in multiple ways while Mabel isn't. Mabel can focus her charm for good while Stan's life turned him to use it for con artistry and crime. The same charisma fostered in very different ways.
>>
>>76612714
Fuck, that's probably what Ford found so stifling. Stan COULD have had friends, if Ford hadn't been considered a freak by Joisey. Stan stuck by Ford, they didn't have many friends, but Stan wasn't smart like Ford and struggled in school. And as Ford got smarter and smarter, and built himself up around that to get rid of his freak vibes, he got tired of Stan being in his shadow - following him around - and found him suffocating and well.. a dumber, sweatier version of himself while not being fucking grateful that, PC or not, Stanford would have had no one if not for Stan because he was a freak.

Oh come on. Ford is perfectly willing to risk himself for the greater good, that is definitely selfless. It's just he considers himself above petty personal things like relationships and feelings. That is where he fails.
>>
>>76612771
Also Ford being a freak and a nerd must have attracted tons of bullies and with Filbrick sending Stan to boxing lessons because he didnt want his son to be a wimp, we can assume that Stan got into tons of fights with other kids to defend his brother. Getting into constant fights and being suspended wasnt going to help Stan in school.
>>
>>76612761
Mabel can focus her charm and not become a degenerate because she's a girl. Men can only do that for crime, acting, or politics.
>>
>>76612826
I'd let it slide if it was something that really did seem harmless, that thing did not seem harmless. He made her an offer, and she immediately went in the bag to see if she had the thing to give him.

It should've been executed better. There's more dangerous things in gravity falls. Emotional state or not she should have know better, or at least been like. "whoa Morty, this doesn't look kosher, you sure you can handle this jive?" and he'd be all like " no sweat M dog, I can dig it, just trust me fam"

It was just too easy, I can see her not giving a shit about the family since they hurt her, and she'd get more time, but a alittle friction would've made the scene more believable.
>>
>>76612869
But he only decided to do that because he sees Dipper as literally a young him. That's still some serious superiority complex.

But like I said earlier, I do think he has noble intentions. They're just mixed with very selfish ones. You know, like any realistic good person functions. Only problem is that there was a lot more at stake in this story and Ford's selfishness helped tip it over the edge.

Come on, he should have told all of them. All of them were in the supernatural know and all of them were in the direct path of danger together. Both Stan and Mabel should have been made aware just to be safer so misunderstandings like this wouldn't happen.
>>
>>76612862
Gravity Falls is littered with artifacts. It might seem special to us because we've only seen so much but to Mabel it's a diamond thousand
>>
>>76613007
Stan I could see, but Ford was still not ready to forgive/thank him for getting him out. I feel like Mabel would've done it anyway, but might've been a bit more reserved about doing so.
>>
If this doesn't lead to a Stan vs Ford fistfight, I'll be so disappointed. This is the kind of tension that can only be worked out through fists.
>>
>>76612839
At least Dipper refused Bill at first. Mabel let her Vagina cloud her mind when future fat fuck, who she knows doesn't like them, waltzed his Morty sounding ass over and offered her the exact solution to her current problem.

This. If Stan could get that machine activated at least he should have the right to know what it caused and why Ford was so angry. Ford is a fucking manchild. Stan is a saint that has harbored no hate after all these years. Ford is an angry beta twit that tries to drag him under the water. If Ford was such a rational intelligent man he'd realize things change and grow up already.

Dipper literally made a deal with a demon who fucked with them and that he knows is evil and is particularly crafty at tricking people with deals. It will never be the same level no matter how hard you reach. The resulting consequences are just much, much further apart.
>>
>>76612955

It's complete bullshit to compare their relationship to the Bojack thing because Stan has suffered beyond what his accidental crime entailed and more than fucking atoned for it, while Ford has done
absolutely nothing to acknowledge the shit he's put his brother through and continues to fuck up other people's lives.

Ford is such a piece of shit, I'm so fucking glad that tumblr's stopped sucking his dick after this episode.
>>
>>76613051
I think it's believable she'd trust him, since he at least liked her, and I still think Dipper agreeing to anything with bill outside of anything but sheer neccesity was a bad idea.

Except she knows that he likes her. Blendin is a time agent and is always hidden watching over to protect time anomalies so it makes sense that he'd know exactly her problem and just happen to be there.

>Who would share secrets related to the security of the world to a 12 years old that acts based on emotion?
>a 12 years old that acts based on emotion

That's exactly why he should have told Mabel and Stan. People who tend to go with their gut reaction when making decisions will trust their personal feelings foremost. So you need to give them an idea of the consequences of the incorrect action in a way they can appreciate.

Tell Mabel and Stan this "snowglobe" needs to be protected at all costs, or Dipper and the other risk being seriously hurt. Nothing motivates Stan like family loyalty, and although Mabel's made mistakes she'd never knowingly endanger Dipper.

Hell, Ford knows all of that already. He used it to his advantage in TLM, when he sent Mabel away on a wild goose chase so he and Dipper could get down to business in the lab. And when Mabel exceeded his expectations and completed her task successfully, he rewarded her behaviour by praising her for "protecting her family".
>>
What really bothers me about this episode is that it's played like Ford knew that Mabel would be devastated if Dipper became his successor but he shrugged it off really callously. If he's projecting himself onto Dipper, it also looks like he's projecting his relationship with his twin as well.

of course we know this'll never end up happening and mystery twins will find a way

>>
>>76613110
I think all he needed to tell them was that the fucking world would end if something happened to that snowglobe. Mabel and Stan aren't nearly as retarded as Ford pretends they are. Dumbass Stan managed to put together an incredibly complicated machine that his genius brother made. That's impressive even if it took a long time.
>>
>>76613089
Stan did that shit to himself, if he hadn't have fucked around with his brother's future, nothing would've happened there. I doubt Ford would've left him completely in the dust, and if he had, Ford would've been the dick.

Stan was willing to make amends though, Ford was being a huge difficult baby about it. I feel like if the series had more time, we would've gotten some results on that front. Instead we got an episode about how people with game are terrible people, and women wan the sensitive guy or some shit. I did not mind the hijinks of ruining other tourists traps.
>>
>>76613068

Appearing out of thin air at any point in time is logical behaviour for a time traveller, so no. Not really. Especially not with Bill's limited omniscience to guide him.
>>
>>76612982

>>76613117
They both project their twin relationship on Mabel and Dipper. Ford thinks it's inevitable that Dipper will grow apart from Mabel and that he has better things to pursue. Which, if I'm getting all psychoanalyst, might be the way he twists things in his head to justify his wrecked relationship with his beloved brother. Stan has said that Mabel and Dipper get along way too well, and I think a lot of the bits of animosity he showed Dipper before is connected to how similar he was to Ford.
>>
>>76613117
I don't think so, I also feel like Dipper might've been able to convince Ford if he grew more of a spine.

>>76613145

It honestly made me wonder why he wasn't able to talk to Ford more extensively. You need to been smart to put that thing back together, they should be on more equal ground now.
>>

>limited omniscience
>>
>>76613147
It was a damn accident. Ford refused to believe that, even when Stan had stuck by him for all this time. There was no need for their relationship to fall apart over that, and that's what's so sad.
>>
>>76613110
>although Mabel's made mistakes she'd never knowingly endanger Dipper.

You can't affirm that. She was pissed with Dipper and probably would think: Oh, I will make the summer last longer and Dipper will forgive me because it will benefit us.
>>
>>76613177

It's implied he knows some future outcomes, but not necessarily all of them. I'm guessing there's a loophole there that'll allow for his defeat.

But yeah, so far it seems like everything's gone the way he wanted it to.
>>
>>76613194

Exactly. Ford could have explained the rift to Stan just the way he did to Dipper. Hell, it probably would have made more sense to Stan, considering he rebuilt the portal that caused it.
>>
>>76613200
Would you believe a known liar, someone who lies even to you that they just happen to wander in and break your machine? He should've just told him immediately when he fucked it so he had time to fix it.
>>
>>76613217
When it's my twin brother who has had my back for so long, then fucking yes. Stan fucked up but this was a damn stupid thing for that relationship to be destroyed over. And I think they both know that well but they're stubborn jackasses.
>>
>>76613068
Just because you're too dumb to notice the build up doesn't mean the moment came out of nowhere.
>>
But Ford WOULD have left him in the dust, he already said as much. "Guess you can come and visit me between scraping barnacles lol."

I think the thing that gets me the most about their relationship is just how fucking little Ford EVER gave a shit about Stan unless Stan could benefit him.

Stan always stuck his neck out for Ford, taking insults and supporting him from childhood but people talk shit in front of Ford? Why does Ford give a shit?

Stan has to defend Ford when he's being called a freak but Ford doesn't have to do shit when Stan is being called stupid and worthless.

He didn't so much as SLIGHTLY show concern when the fucking school counselor was saying that Stan was a moron and was gonna stay where he was with a shitty dead end job.

So Stan caused an accident when he had no intentions of ever hurting the brother he had supported for his entire life, and suddenly he's scum that should be thrown out instead of even TALKED WITH.

Ford is just a fucking piece of shit, that's all there is to it.

There's a difference between being willing to stop time, which would've had some nebulous consequences Mabel wouldn't have thought out in the heat of the moment, and wilfully handing off an artifact she'd been expressly warned about the dangers of.

I can state with a fair bit of certainty that, had Mabel been warned that Bill was after the Rift, she would have been much more cautious with it.

In real life things arent so simple. Stan is just a teenager then. Sometimes people break something by accident but feel so guilty they dont immediately tell the owner, or try not to tell at all and hide or distance themselves. It doesnt at all mean they did it on purpose, and Ford being a logical genius should at least have heard his brother out at some point. Stan is a shit liar anyway. If his twin brother spoke to him face to face and asked "Did you break my machine on purpose", then Ford would have gotten the truth and been able to tell.
>>

Eh, Ford has no obligation to stick with Stan forever and not pursue his dreams. Ford helped Stan out in school, let him copy of his homework, and was also Stan's only friend.
>>
>>76613145

Stan is a god damn genius that thinks he's a moron because of his shitty family.

He had one fucking third of the blueprints because he had ONE fucking journal and he STILL managed to build the portal by himself.

And all that while learning genius tier mathematics and physics from scratch without having finished high school and he did it all out of love for his brother(who is literally the worst).
>>
Problem with Mabel is that she never get to suffer for her action. Her punishment is always "Mabel feels bad for people whose life she ruins, don't you feel sorry for her?"
>>
>>76613261

I think it's more of the happy separation that troubles people. There's other ways to do that, and consider your sibling's feelings, then "Welp, see you when I see you. Bye bye!" If you've always stood by someone and thought your relationship was super strong, I can imagine that stings.

Ford is a sociopath. He just doesnt care about his family like normal person does. Still, not just anybody can do something like that, especially with zero prior experience. Nevermind that what Ford built was out of the league of any other tech around. It's still impressive and shows that Stan is way smarter than he's given credit for.
>>
>>76613330
In those 30 years he must have been doing more than that. Ford also just copied off Bill. Ford didnt invent shit, just got the parts.
>>
>>76613285

He has no obligation to stick with Stan, but as a brother(especially as an OLDER brother since he's got a such fucking hard on about that) he had an obligation to look out for him, defend him when he's being shit on and be concerned about his future.

Stan was the little bro and he did all those things and more.

But Ford? Ford is fucking special, not like Stan so he gets to sit back and relax while everyone shits on his bro bro that's done nothing but support him. And now that he's going off to college? Why should he give a shit about Stan?

And we don't know that Ford "helped him" in school, because letting Stan copy his homework doesn't fucking count as helping.

First off, it's no fucking effort on his part because he would have done the work anyway. Secondly it's just another way to feed his ego with him being the "smart one" and Stan being the "dumb one."

If he was really gonna help Stan out there would have been a flashback of him actually trying to teach Stan but that would fuck up the nice narrative that Ford had in his head if Stan ever improved.

The worst kind of characters are the shits that think they're the best when they're actually the worst of the worst.

This was like an anti-NHWS. In that episode, she takes a insanely risky gamble based on gut instinct, and it pays off hugely even though she endangered everyone. In D&MvtF, she gambles again and trusts a tentative ally, and gets fucking crushed. She's tricked by the big bad, knocked out, and sidelined with further massive consequences to come.

According to Ford, Stan would've gotten by just fine without him, if he didn't I doubt he'd have fucked him. According to the both of them, they BOTH took abuse and defended each other because no one else would. I doubt either of them would've let the other out to dry if things got shit, but Stan sabotoged that, even if it was accidental.

Yes, I agree with that, but that doesn't mean that she wouldn't do it.
In this accident, Mabel is entirely to blame.
Mabel is too naive and immature even for her age.
She took something that doesn't belong to her and give it to a stranger. Cause and effect.

Again, people, especailly teenagers dont always do what they shoudlve done. Also the machine was working when Stan left it. He didnt know it was broken. If it was broken he wouldve done something, but all he did was knock a little grate off that came off when he put his fists on a table. If this really broke the machine then fuck, anyone could have kicked the table by accident and destroyed it.
It looked okay to Stan. Stan chose to not risk a false alarm that would have Ford distrust him by not saying anything.

Also Ford never says this, he says this about Mabel. Ford knows Stan is working the docks the rest of his life since the principal says it to his face, and Ford didnt give two shits.
Also there is nothing that shows them defending eachother. In ATOTS it's Stan defending Ford. In NWHS we see Stanford's report card with a D in phys ed, this implies Ford was always weak and didnt get tough like Stan did.
>>
>>76613409
>In this accident, Mabel is entirely to blame.

She didn't have all the information necessary to make an informed decision, and that contributed to her making an incorrect one. Ford deliberately withheld said information from her, and it would have made a huge difference had she known it.

I think you can operate under the assumption that Mabel wouldn't have given the rift up if she knew what it was. It was glaringly obvious from the moment episodes ago that Ford told Dipper not to share the information that it'd bite them in the ass. It just did.
>>
>>76613446
The show has done a shitty job showing their relationship, which is weird because it's pretty fucking important.

I guess yet another episode about Dipper's failed romantic exploits was more important.
>>
>>76613397

Here's the thing. STAN said that they were each other's only friends and defended each other but Stan is also the same guy that still thinks that his dad wasn't an abusive piece of shit and actually loved him.

What we've been SHOWN is the complete fucking opposite. Every moment that we've seen of their childhood and teen years has been Stan doing the all the heavy lifting in their relationship.

Who defends their brother? Stan. Who is always happy for his brother's accomplishments? Stan. Who willingly throws punch in his own face in solidarity? Stan.

What the fuck has Ford ONCE done for Stan in those flashbacks that actually meant something?

And Hirsch himself said that Ford has always considered himself superior to Stan and considering what Ford has said about himself in this episode do you really think that he's
ever stuck out his fucking neck even once for his "unspecial" brother?

Stan has proven himself to cope by rationalizing the abuse he's gone through and grasping onto any positive attention he gets.

What counts as "support" for him, was probably Ford just hanging out with him all the time because we have no proof whatsoever that Ford was half as there for his brother as Stan was for him.

Also I would bet cold hard cash that if Ford COULD have made other friends, he would have dropped Stan like a hot iron.

What Ford said in ATOTS I think says everything that needs to be said: "I'm giving you the opportunity to do the only worthwhile thing you've ever done in your life."

That shows us what Ford thought of Stan's love for him and how little he gave a shit as well as how much he only cares about himself.

And I hope that someone details this for Ford, bit by agonizing bit until Ford finally realizes that he's the world's hugest piece of shit.

And I hope that person is BILL

All I can think is that Alex withheld their interactions on purpose to create a more dramatic moment later. Which, to me, is the exact opposite of how their relationship should have been handled. >I wonder how the moment they find out Mabel handed over the rift will go down.
>Will Dipper reject Ford?

I'm worried Ford will be there to spin the events for Dipper, and Mabel will be knocked out (or elsewhere) and unable to give her side of events.

Perfect opportunity for another speech on how Dipper needs to separate himself from Mabel and Stan, because they're just burdens. I can already hear J. K. Simmons doing his best "regretful but resolute" voice as he tells Dipper he should have expected this all along.
>>
>>76613541
I don't think Ford is as much of a jackass as you do, but fuck do your posts make me feel for Stan. This poor guy needs to win for once in his life.

The more I think about Roadside Attraction, the more I feel bad for him too. Stan tries hard and he's a good guy at heart, even if he's a con man. He'd do damn near anything for his brother even after all the shit between them, and he fucking did.
>>
>>76613603
If it was Morty? She'd probably still do it, I think it should've been something more flowery that she'd believe. Like if the orb was in a backpack and he made up some bullshit about what the backpack would do for the thing he wanted to do, would've helped if it protected the orb during the ufo chase thing too. It was shady as fuck for him to ask for something when MAbel did nothing but help him, woudl've made more sense if he needed it to do the thing.
>>
>>76613640
I don't think so. Not if she thinks it might be Bill, who would absolutely take the form of someone she trusted to do something like that. That combined with knowing what the rift was, and I highly doubt even Mabel is dumb enough to do that.

Then again, I don't see why Bill couldn't have just manhandled it from her anyways while possessing someone.
>>
>>76613541
Bill gives great "you suck" speeches.
>>
>>76613575
This. Stanchurian Candidate was a wasted opportunity. A 10 second scene of Stan just asking Ford for his thoughts on him running would be great. Instead we got memeing fast
>>
My take about Stan and Mabel is: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
>>
>>76613541
>What Ford said in ATOTS I think says everything that needs to be said: "I'm giving you the opportunity to do the only worthwhile thing you've ever done in your life."
I feel like he was still thinking very little of Stan after he tried to sabotage his life. So I'd let that bit slide. He should've at least thanked him for getting him out of the portal, maybe even commented on how much smarter he'd become since they last met since not anybody could'v put that back together. Instead everyone just forgets about Stan and how he put together this entire thing.
>>76613632
I agree, Stan deserved better, he should've won for mayor. They said it themselves it didn't matter what you did as long as the eagle picked you and you could read, or something lieki that. It was a shitty status quo ending.

>>

>>
>>76613678

>>
>>76613682

The guidebook, the certificate at the end written by Dipper had a fucking super villain manifesto detailing his darker thoughts written in code around the edges.
>>
>>76613652
Bill isn't that kind of guy.
He probably finds manipulating people more satisfying than doing things directly or he's used to it or there's some stupid demon law that forbids it.
>>
>>76613683
>fuck

That rift should have never left the shack. Which also would have been easier to do if they had someone who could guard it all the time. Like they could if they'd told Mabel and Stan.

>tfw no Wendy bullying

>>
>>76613652

I bet that would have been his back up plan. The twins are pretty sturdy for 12 year olds, but Mabel would be no match for a grown adult.

I think by now, after however many millenia of making deals, Bill just defaults to wheedling and coaxing bargains out of his victims. I doubt he needed to do it this way, but he might have set mabel up like this for extra cruelty points.

That's just the fucking thing about the entire situation. One time. ONE FUCKING TIME, AND it was an accident, AND he didn't even try to talk to him about it, and 17 years of selfless and self sacrificing devotion is deemed fucking worthless to him.

It shows that Ford never really appreciated what Stan was, he just fucking expected it as his right. And once that brother fucks up just once? He's nothing to him.
>>

>When friends ask you to stop being paranoid, you will scoff. >>76613938

Because its kind of fucking short sighted to have something that dangerous even in their vicinity without making them aware of it, ESPECIALLY when there was always the possibility of theft or trickery.

What, you think that Bill couldn't have faked being in severe trouble as another person to Mabel and beg for the thing in the basement in order to live as soon as Ford had his back turned?

It's not about trusting people, it's about preventing other people from fucking up by accident.
>>
>>76612228
Ford made Stan fucking homeless at 17~ . I think that type of life ruining situation trumps not going to a fancy school. Sure Ford could be mad and Stan should have told him first thing so they could fix it. But Ford should have stopped and found out the whole situation since he's so goddamn intelligent and logical or fucking whatever. They've been eachothers only friends their entire lives they they should be able to communicate. Stan callingFord ad hanging up made sense since he didn't want to burden his brother anymore then he felt he already had but Ford should have quickly realized the situation he had put his brother in instead of waiting for Stan to be a useful tool for his own shit to reach out to him.

Also what kind of egotistical retard doesn't check their Fucking project beforehand? Schools give you all day to make sure your project is ready for those types of events. What was he thinking that him the infallible Ford couldn't possibly not have a perfect shining project all day without even looking at it once.

Ford is definition hubris and needs to get the fuck over himself
>>

>>
>>76613843
Seems to be working now. Thanks, anon.
>>
I think most of the problems we're getting here is that we're kind of left in the dark as to Ford and Stan relationships, and that not enough was done with them to establish how much of a dick they really were to each other/how close they were. No reminiscing, no tyring to patch things up, no family golf night, nothing. Ford shows up and does nothing in a basement, and everyopne forgets about Stan mostly. It was a rush job, and not enough thought went into their characters. Part of a Slow burn would've helped too.

On the other side, this finale was not written entirely too well at all, and needed a few story revisions to make sense. I write scripts, and I can tell he didn't have a very good proofreader/a guy to bounce things off of to tell him things were shit or didn't make snese. When you don't have that buffer, you get starwars episode 1-3.

This series needed more time and less filler.
>>
>>76614000
If this is about telling Mabel and Stan, it's not hindsight. They've been setting this up since episodes back. Everybody saw shit coming as soon as Ford told Dipper to keep the rift a secret.
>>
>>76613956
I didnt see Stan and Dipper having a bad relationship until Dreamscapers. Even after that Dipper didnt trust Stan in NWHS and lied to Stan in Into the Bunker. After a land before swine Stan should have won his trust. Dipper trusted McGucket who tried to kill them and eat Waddles just because he thought he was the author based on the slightest hint. In NWHS Dipper immediately thinks Stan robbed the author
>>
>>76612698
this is an excellent point. Mabel didn't know any better and was tricked. Almost in disbelief as to realizing that she might only see her brother irl every once in a while. Dipper wasn't and knew what he was doing.

Man, Not getting a sure fire scholarship to a fancy school back when that mattered could've fucked him for good. He might've been in debt forever persuing that career had he not busted his ass. That's future ruining right there, if someone you knew since you were a wee tot wrecked your shot at having a good life and told you it was an accident would you believe them? You'd be fucking distraught and in shock that they'd even have the galll to do that. He should've checked the thing beforehand, granted, but that's still a pretty fucking insane thing to deal with.

As for Ford not reaching out, he was too far up Bills multidemensinal anal caverns to want to talk to anyone. >>
>>76614177
yeah that's true as well. He also did mention in SDCC this year, that Bill has family issues with his other relatives as well, so Bill could be working for some of his famiy members or something.

>especially something as possible as one of the people that live in the house finding something in their house
you're obviously a newfag if you didn't even know that stan and mabel doesn't know about ford's secret lab where he kept the rift. also, you obviously don't understand the concept of an "unforeseen circumstance"

It's true what they say, interjecting into a conversation simply doesn't get any less fun

at any rate, bro calm down
just relax

Were you in the talkback thread for TLM? More than one anon suggested Blendin (including me). The key was that his eyes are always covered. Blubbs also got a couple of votes on those grounds.
>>
>>76614160
bill didn't know where the rift was you fucking MORON. even while he possessed blendin, he asked mabel to go get the rift from ford and had no idea it was right there in the bag. you, sir, just got btfo
>>
>>76614220
He didnt keep it in the second floor lab dumbshit, he put it in the bottom where Stan was working. Nothing is stopping them from walking downstairs and taking the elevator at all.
Do you even watch this show or are you a tumblr fangirl who just came here to shitpost and defend your husbando?
>>
>I'd give anything to be 12 again
Oh boy here we go
>>
>>76613325
No he can't be. The most he can do is make Stan happy for once and give him some closure.
>>
>>76614239
Except the scene that shows Bill can see the rift, and that Bill is all seeing. Eitherway the shack isnt that big and it's obvious the rift is in there.
>>
>>76614247
why don't you watch more than the last couple of episodes before discussing the show, bandwagonfag? because clearly in NWHS, ford first takes the rift out of a little cubby hole from his secret lab. you're a moron and you need to go back to tumblreddit whereever the fuck you queers come from
>>
>>76614247
>Do you even watch this show or are you a tumblr fangirl who just came here to shitpost and defend your husbando?
why do the idiots always have to bring tumblr into things
are you that devoid of sites to use as an insult nigga
>>

>clearly in NWHS, ford first takes the rift out of a little cubby hole from his secret lab.

Not the anon you're arguing with, but the Rift wasn't shown in NWHS, did it?

I could have sworn DDMD was the first time we saw it.
>>
>>76614275
you guys are idiots if you think ford should or would trust mabel or stan. it's out of character and none of you can wrap your heads around that because you're fucking autists
>>
>>76614320

We think he fucking SHOULD have, not that he WOULD have. What he did is perfectly in character, yeah sure.

IT WAS ALSO FUCKING RETARDED.
>>
>>76614320

It's not a matter of Ford giving them his personal trust so much as an issue of maximum preparedness. Forewarned is forearmed, and Ford of all people should know that. Even if he didn't want to rely on them or entrust important tasks to them (which, I agree, would have been OOC for Ford), keeping them completely in the dark was a dangerous move.

That said, Mabel already proved herself loyal and capable of carrying out difficult tasks in TLM. I can't see Ford reaching ever out to Stan of his own volition, but him letting Mabel in on some of the secrets doesn't seem so far fetched.
