where were you when show of the year was completely destroyed?
Fuck Natasha Allegri, I can't believe I actually gave money to this thing.
Let's turn her into Punky, yeah that's a good idea! I get it can't be super-awesome animated, but why make her a walking potato? Just, ugh, it repulses me to look at.
I wouldn't even be mad if Bee was always ugly.
Guys, obviously the design is supposed to be bad.
Not everyone in the world is beautiful, so deal with it. It's about time we had unappealing character designs in cartoons. Johnny Test can only pave the way for so long.
She doesn't even really look fat in the new design. If she was just made a little fatter, maybe it would still be a salvageable design. I mean yeah, her legs are thicker, but... it's like her whole torso just vanished and her chin is huge. And what's with the blue under her eyes? Is she Wario?
>the internet says you look too much like Adventure Time. we're afraid this might negatively effect your performance
>Okay, let's throw in some Miyazaki influence that conflicts with the existing style and fatten up the legs for Twitter
>ya, that looks better, right? now I'm a tool of corporate ignorance
She's not even that fat. Yeah her legs are wider but thats it. They fucked up by making the part of her hair that covered her ear gone, widening and shrinking the eyes too damn much, and giving her 2much chin
Like it legitimately doesn't look like the same character, stage 2 would have been a happy medium, what the fuck happened?
>Watch Bee & Puppycat pilot
>Expect cute slice of life about the pains of young-adult hood
>cutesy tumblr sailor-moon scifi fantasy bullshit
I lost interest long ago
Far left one looks strange. Why couldn't they just settle for the middle one? She's still cute there.
Source for this news?
She's got that Jay Leno thing going on.
>Guys! It's shit on purpose and you should like it!
It looks like one of those things where you fold paper to make a person look weird and uncanny, but they folded off her entire torso and waist. If you tried to draw a ribcage onto her it would connect directly to the pelvis.
Wait what? the LEFT is the final?
Yeah, we all had about the same reaction. I'm unhappy with the current art; if the show isn't fantastic (which I didn't expect it to be in the first place, I just wanted a western magical girl that wasn't pure shit) I want nothing to do with it. This art switch is way too drastic IMO and was completely unwarranted.
Fucking this. No one even watches Adventure Time for anything BUT the shipping. Not only is all the "action" and "adventure" stuff point less of what we really want but add insult to injury all the action fucking sucks balls. What's even the point of all the magic and shit when you don't even know how to do it properly with out being ironic or just making references to good anime that does action and romance right.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the Punky thing.
No official reason has ben given. There was just a post with OP's pic saying that Bee has been "improved" on tumblr.
Some people say the design on the left is cheaper to animate, but it could also be possible that Rebecca simply liked the new version better.
But I don't think the problem is the face... maybe the placement of it? With that big chin.
I mean, if you put that same face on something else like... this, it can look cute.
I guess she looks as stupid as Deckard now.
>Blue and Green Eye
What a fucking special snowflake, he looks like a fan character.
She could've just dated a Black guy.
Not the best at putting things into words, but it looks more appealing and professionally-drawn to me. It's cleaner, and it seems like it's focused on certain aspects (the bows and the hair) instead of being all-over-the-place like something from a random character creator. Better silhouette.
And personally I find high-up mouths to be cuter than low-down ones.
>Huge ass feet
How the fuck. The middle one and the right one looks fine given.
>Leg to body ratio.
Where the fuck are her organs? Is this thing even human?
>The square head.
>New Bee Design!
>Bee’s gotten a new and improved look for 2014, courtesy of designer Becky Dreistadt and clean-up artist Cory Holmes.
>Sooooo… what do you think?
Sounds like she isn't too pleased with it either. Side profile actually doesn't look too bad, but fuck, that chin and the width of her face is just too fucking much.
Jesus H. Titty-Fucking Christ.
>Even though its a mutation, your body is technically capable of giving you rock hard chin.
God damn I wish human had direct control over their body's function. I would turn on that one disease that makes your muscles keep breaking and reforming to the point you muscles get to big they have to surgically remove them so you don't crush your heart.
Obviously I would turn it off before it did that. That would be an awesome super power.
or make some extra bones grow so I have awesome bone armor at all times.
Man, even left middle is better than far left, and all that's changed is her face moved. Hell, I actually prefer LM to everything on this image; I still prefer the original, but god damn, the design could be improved so much if the face was just down a little bit.
I can't help but think of one of those special needs students and retard-strength people when I see the new design.
Before the design kind of made her look awkward. Which was in character and portrayed fine.
But with the new design, the ribbons, the bee, the shorts, and especially the now tucked in shirt, makes her come across as one of those special people.
Her new face isn't helping her either.
It's not fat-shaming, because technically her design isn't fat. Her new design is horridly boring though. It's calculatedly boring. Nothing about it is noteworthy, yet it's glaring in its mediocrity.
In short, it's a totally 'inoffensive' design made to pander-to/not intimidate the show's new 'target audience'.
It's quite easy to tell that the original design has some meat on her thighs and all. If you are so declined, it would actually be rather easy to imagine her as a bit chubby underneath her loose clothing.
But she is definitely not thin.
The new one is just overall HUGE. And it doesn't just look like fat. The proportions are just strikingly odd, with people rationalizing it as fat to explain how HUGE she is.
Honestly. Fat or not, the new design is just rather shit.
>all you morons that gave money to this...
And you called me a troll when I told you it was just tumblr bullshit...
Look, it's one thing to go up to someone that's fat and say "fatty fatty pig, eat your lasagna," It's another thing entirely to say "this cartoon chick on TV is too fat, her being fat adds nothing to her character."
You can just not be an asshole. You don't have to try and pass off ugly characters to appease the fat gods.
It didn't present itself as such though.
Not only that but the person that actually seems to have had the most influence on the final design, (Cory Holmes) seems to be into fat chicks. Couldn't find a tumblr for him but this is from his twitter:
>I draw boobs and sometimes other things, but mostly boobs and I talk about video games. I'm also a Clean-Up Artist for Skullgirls and Bee and Puppycat
This one edit was a pain in the ass, Bee's new design is fun to experiment with.
Added to my chart if you wanna compare this last monstruosity.
>"this cartoon chick on TV is too fat, her being fat adds nothing to her character."
But her being anything doesn't add to her character. Character traits are separate from what they look like.
There are plenty of differences between concepts in pilots and the finished product we see serialized. Asking what each alteration adds to their character is pointless because they add just as much as making Bee fat.
It's fine to hate the new design for aesthetic reasons.
She's not even actually fat, her proportions are just all entirely messed up
Her face is tiny and high up
her head and torso are the same size
her legs are tree trunks that make up the majority of her height and body mass with feet 4 times the size of her hands
>Depends on if they address the characters physical appearance in the narrative.
That's weird because if you apply that standard, everything about a character must be commented on on screen or their physical trait is pointless. That's weird.
It's a very downward, weighted design. She isn't actually fat, but she looks fat because her proportions fuck up your size estimations. It's like a Frazetta girl or Nani from Lilo and Stitch, but done badly.
this was the plan the whole time
>I want to make a progressive and liberal show, but I'll never get the funding if I don't pander
>I know, I'll make her kawaii desu in the pilot and then use her original design once the show is funded
Reminder, this was her plan the whole time. Make a show about a fat "average" girl.
Yes because it has decent body proportion.
The chin isn't massively huge and her chest area would be extended enough so that her arms and legs don't look freakishly huge in comparison.
She doesn't even need to be as thin as the original, if the proportions weren't as fucked up it wouldn't be as jarring looking
>tree trunk legs
>even the bee looks fucking retarded now
>is she crying?
the only improvement is really the hands because the old ones didn't look cartoony enough, but the new ones do like a little too fat
>hair is too flat
>eyebrows too small
It's a good thing OP. Hopefully people that donated will use it as a lesson to never do that again and keep their fucking money.
Squats, Oats, Elephantitis, and Cherubism.
I once bullied a fat kid in our class with the rest of my friends. One day he had enough and ate nothing but strawberries for lunch. Every single day. After half a year he lost half 100lbs and now we're cool.
>It's like a Frazetta girl or Nani from Lilo and Stitch, but done badly.
I have a feeling this is one of those designs that look better in motion, like the Crystal Gems when Steven Universe was coming out. People were like "Ugh Pearl's nose!" and "Bluh Garnet's hair!" but it all worked out fine.
I made an edit last week for fun. While I think she looks like a turbonerd with the shorts so high up, it's really the elephant legs, the fact the eyes are so small and the ear showing that ruins her to me. The face doesn't resemble a girl at all and just reminds me of a fat German boy for some strange reason.
But the Steven Universe ones still kept the same body ratios and general look
Steven and Amethist were short and stumpy
Pearl was thin and slender
and Garnet was tall and curvy. Cosmetic differences aside it still kept the same basic sort of look
This is literally deforming a character. Her fucking arms extend way past her torso now that its been shrunken to make way for more leg. And the general chunkier look doesn't match at all to the pilot design
>But the Steven Universe ones still kept the same body ratios and general look
People were convinced that this wasn't the case for Garnet, though.
They thought her hair made her too lop-sided.
I'm gonna give B&P the same benefit of the doubt and wait til there's a few episodes with action scenes or whatever.
I liked the pilot with her not being remotely fat, just...frumpy?
and then they full on fat acceptance movement it and it's universally hated but they'll probably still go with it.
Magical realism has become an excuse to have inconsistent writing and cheap drama/cope outs.
Like, Adventure Time will always have to focus on relationshit drama because the wacky elephant of fluff a loo will render any other development pointless.
It leads to the viewer being robbed of a story arc with any real weight, and the left leaning fucks who do animation these days love it.
>barely anyone mentions this abomination
>awful hipster haircut
god it's like I'm in the early 2000s and peoples idea of a good character design is to make the character as "unique" and "special" looking as possible. this is garbage.
Wait, I've seen that face before....
Bee not SLOW!
The only thing we really know about him is that he's some guy who got hit in the nuts with an umbrella, and yet a whole new character was made just to show how dumb he is.
>A new character named Cass was also introduced, with Allegri explaining she was developed “to show how inept Deckard is at being an adult. I wanted someone who was seemingly more put together.”
And then he has a brother who calls him "Dick-hard":
At best that means his overwrought design is just there to get made fun of, while at worst it's trash on top of trash.
>Only Male character exits to be stupid
>Was previously a cool love interest from across the hall
>Designs are aboinations
>Designs were shit but passable
What has happened. Who have they hired.
I kinda wanna say they're pleasing their audience with both changes though if I'm honest.
And we all know who they are
Wow, just fuck it, I have no hopes of this turn out
good I'll only enjoy watching it turn to dust...
An anon complaining about a design pandering to Tumblr
is just as bad as
a SJW complaining about a design being too sexy to pander to the "cis-hetero-male". It's fucking stupid.
It's their creation, the creators can go with the design that they feel right in their heart.
I dont know why this pisses me off so much
>It didn't present itself as such.
I only just heard of this thing yesterday and watched that 10 min episode on Youtube. Looked like it came straight from Adventure Time + Tumblr.
>It's their creation, the creators can go with the design that they feel right in their heart.
Going with what feels right in one's heart is not always the same as pandering to what's popular. Unless what's in one's heart is making the most money.
Not to say you're wrong, I'm just saying.
No I wanted adventure time. As in a time where adventures could be had, shipping can go eat a dick. Also this new design looks like trash and not because she was made fatter, you can tell it looks bland as shit.
>Going with what feels right in one's heart is not always the same as pandering to what's popular.
But that's not the case here.
I mean, think about it if it is only about what is popular, the redisign would have been sexier. SJ is just a noisy minority, and what bring the bucks is still the standard form of sexy.
Not to mention, the redesign happened after the fund raising, meaning it's too late to bring the dosh.
The writers clearly went with a design they wanted. There is nothing wrong with that.
>I mean, think about it if it is only about what is popular, the redisign would have been sexier. SJ is just a noisy minority, and what bring the bucks is still the standard form of sexy.
SJWs are a noisy minority within to the general population, but not within B&PC viewership. This show was always going to appeal to the 13 year old girls on Tumblr, rather than to the 14 year old boys on /co/.
>rather than to the 14 year old boys on /co/.
Bravest Warrior strongly disagree with you.
But I stand by my position, It's their show, they do what they want with it.
We'll probably have more materila to discus on once the first episode is out.
They still haven't delivered yet...
I have faith but I'm getting shitty without my Krosmaster figs. Holy shit were their backing rewards amazing quality.
>Bunch of shit
>Did a quick ms paint drawing
Shes got elephant/hippo feet
several those of which lead to links to tumblr images.
Some faggot pointing out the frequency of certain complaints does not automatically invalidate them.
>mfw natasha probably thinks like this
All I can think of is...
>What is with this mouth that everyone is getting?!
>unappealing character designs
>Johnny Test can only pave the way for so long
Speaking of Cartoon Hangover cartoons, I never saw any threads on Space Bear. Any thoughts on it? I found it to be a good short, I just have no idea where it'd go from there. Between the criminals, Bear's devotion to modernity, his balance of work and school life, and the antics of bystanders, I don't know where it would really give focus.
No, it was a good name used once. Naming a character after it just makes you look like bad fanfiction. It would be like naming your kid Sonic.
Robin Williams is guilty of this, but I'll forgive him because he's otherwise awesome and dead.
