Yes. JLA is how I got into comics. Also how I got into Morrison. The main story of vol. 2 is one of the best stories featuring that villain ever written.
You'll want to pirate or buy DC 1,000,000 though, one of the issues (forget if it's in vol. 2 or vol. 3) is a plot-important tie-in, so it basically reads
>synopsis of DC1M
>that issue

CBR is autism central. 40 year old men who circlejerk over comic-book collections that all look the same.
>>
>>64607924

/v/ fag here.

An Xbox One costs about $500 depending on some factos. Some of these shelves have like $5000 worth of stuff on them, and they probably are used less than a video-game console.

So, yeah, its kinda crazy.

>Graphic Novel ranges from $10 - $100 probably takes less than 2hrs to read.

Even then, my library of video-games always hovered around 20, with me selling what I didn't like/never played on EBAY.

There's no reason to have that many comics, other than being a hoarding autistic. its a fact.
>>
>>64608097

Most video-games are like ten bucks if you wait a year. But, yeah, comparing /v/ fags to these retards who let their comics collect dust on shellfs is stupid.

>>
>>64607775

Tbh, these guys should be embarrassed in some way. They make these threads here (and on CBR) for dick-measuring and lauding by idiots like them.

Any casual person would think of this as hoarding or some disease. There are people in here with perfectly reasonable shelves though, but there will always be that autist who thinks spending 10000 on comics is cool.

For the record, I come into these threads wondering:
>I wonder what /co/'s taste in comics are like
>What do people read

Which these threads are interesting barometers of.

My thoughts when I guy posts five shelves worth of comics:
>He probably doesn't like/read half the comics he owns
>There are people in this world who could spend his money better than him.
>>
>>64608097
For some people the collection is part of the hobby. This happens for video games, comics, records, blu-rays, and whatever else people buy. It's just a different mindset from what you're trying to make a comparison too. You said you're hovering around 20 but their are people that keep every game they ever buy and they're probably proud of their collection of Atari Lynx games and have a special bag just for carrying them. Medium doesn't matter here.

Besides those 3x3 threads this is where I pick up most of my comic recommendations. It's also nice to get to see what a collection actually looks like and sometimes things like the binding , paper quality, or ugly recoloring. Honestly things like comixology are a god send because I don't have to buy a physical copy of a trade in a long running series like Hellblazer. I can stick to one shot graphic novels or short runs for my shelf without just pirating everything else.

For me, I collect because I enjoy the stories, because (for the non-mainstream books) I want to support the creators, and because it's much easier to share with friends. Most people don't like reading comics digitally, and I lend my books out a shitton.

I just wish that getting my hands on chapters 7 and on wasn't such a pain in the ass! Heavy Metal has 2 volumes out that collect 3 chapters each, but that's it. The only way to get the remaining chapters is by buying the Panini Press books which only have two chapters per book. For fuck's sake, Heavy Metal, step up.

Yeah. I mentioned here >>64608603 that Heavy Metal has published the first six chapters in 2 tpbs that run about $20 each. Amazon, ebay, etc sell 'em.

After that it gets more complicated...Heavy Metal hasn't published any trades past those. Panini Press has published up to Ch. 10 or so, but their trades are only 2 chapters per book. So you can either wait to see if Heavy Metal will step their shit up or mix and match.

The Jim Henson books are awesome, I'm still reading Dark Crystal and it's great. You're pretty much right, but it's totally out of hand. Sometimes people miss details when they read, and some of the stuff people talk about came out years ago. He was overly cautious about signing it too, claiming he didn't want to ruin such an awesome (and expensive) copy of his book.

I was one of those people who spent TONS on DVDs back in the day. I had 1000+.

I cut back to about 300 now. I only buy stuff that I love or that's never available.
>>
>>64627825

I mean, on some level, the guy is right. No one needs 1000+ trades, but there's a healthy medium about collecting what you like.
>>
>>64627834

Are we being raided by /v/ or something?
>>
>>64627805
no, but please tell me more

i could use a laugh
>>
>>64627875
No one needs any trades. It's a fucking hobby.
>>
>>64627839
Why not upgrade them to DVDs, or better yet, just get a digital collection?

I can see some excuse for paper comic collections, if people want to smell them or whatever, but there's literally 0 reason to own a physical movie collection anymore.
>>
>>64627939

Collecting for the sake of collecting is retarded. Collecting because you like a specific character or author is cool.
>>
>>64627684
Yeah. He got it during a local shop's storewide 75% off anniversary sale, read it, was carrying it to our friend's apartment and dropped it in the parking lot, then almost immediately told me he'd sell it to me because it was damaged.
>>
>>64627939
yes, we've established both of those things

I'm still not sure why buying a trade is suddenly the worst thing ever
>>
>>64627825
Look bro, I could see owning like 10-20 of your favorite all-time comics, and a couple toys/posters.

but regularly dishing out 100s of dollars on editions just for the sake of hoarding is some kinda autism.

At some point you will collect enough reading material that you will NEVER be able to re-read it all (if you are working as you claim) so whats the point?
>>
>>64627967
>0 reason to own a physical movie collection anymore.

I don't pirate because I'm on a college campus' connection. Stuff like Kaiju movies or old Brian De Palma films aren't readily available on streaming sites. I like having physical copies of my favorite films available.
>>
>>64628035
>just for the sake of hoarding

Who's doing this?
>>
>>64628035
>Look bro, I could see owning like 10-20 of your favorite all-time comics, and a couple toys/posters.
>but regularly dishing out 100s of dollars on editions just for the sake of hoarding is some kinda autism.
Why, though? What's the difference? Why is owning 20 books acceptable but owning 100 is mental illness?
>>
>>64627825
>Do you seriously only spend money on absolute necessities?
Mostly, yeah. There's always ways to better your situation, I don't think anybody on /co/ is such a millionaire that they can flagrantly throw away all this money on fucking comics.

It's a cool hobby, but at the end of the day it's unhealthy, expensive hoarding.

If you want a buddy to go outside and do things with, let someone know.
>>
>>64627967
>0 reason to own a physical movie collection anymore.

This only works if you can readily pirate films.
>>
>>64627058
>I really want to pick up some Perez Wonder Woman for my wife

Good luck. Amazon has them listed at crazy prices, and Ebay's inconsistent. I got lucky and got them both in a lot pretty close to cover price while I was looking for Azz Vol 1, so there's hope.

You'll probably have to go digital at some point, though. There are only four trades printed, collecting 24 issues of a five and a half year run. But yeah, WW trades are tricky to come by sometimes. A League of One is a pretty good find, though. The art is gorgeous.
>>
>>64626496
if you earn good money like me, you can spend all the cash you want on comics, wife, sons, car and other stuff. Besides, tecnically you don't own a shit when you "buy" online, or when you pirate comics.
>>
>>64628078

There's no specific number, but you can usually tell when people collect for the sake of collecting. Go to the CBR forums, for example.
>>
>>64628035
>just for the sake of hoarding
It's for the sake of reading, idiot. And after I read them, I have no real reason to get rid of them unless I didn't like them. I'm not hurting for money or storage space, so getting rid of them serves no purpose. I can always go back to them if I like them or lend them out to friends or whatever.
>>
>>64628078
chances are you will never reread those 100 in your lifetime, and are just owning them for hoard-reasons
>>
>>64628126
>I don't think anybody on /co/ is such a millionaire that they can flagrantly throw away all this money on fucking comics.
Do you seriously thing spending a hundred bucks a month on books is some kind of ridiculously extravagant spending? I pay my bills, buy necessities, put some money in savings and investments, and then I have leftover that I can put towards entertainment and hobbies, it's not like I'm starving myself and letting the electricity go out so I can buy comics

>>64628175
>and are just owning them for hoard-reasons
what does this even mean? you think people are buying books and not reading them because ___?
>>
>>64628155

why do you need to own a shit, to read a shit?

whats the point of owning a shit?

Not them, but I built a HTPC with XBMC. So everyone can watch things but I still don't have to buy things. That said, I still spend a lot on comics already.

Ok /co/, here's a rule its totally fine to own shit, but if you have over 300 dvds/book/comics whatever you probably have too much.

I'm trying to get a copy of every comic Morrison and Moore ever wrote. Then I'll arrange them in concentric counter-circles with a stack of Niel Gaiman's Sandman in the center and invoke the name of mighty Dormammu whaile accessing my Kermit chakra to fix the hole in the center of the universe.

wow, /co/ has changed. I don't remember summer ever being this bad.

Anyway I just bought/ordered the following this week: Absolute All-Star Superman, Final Crisis, and Batman & Robin; 52 vol. 1, and Seven Soldiers vol. 1.

Are you gonna have a Morrison shelf like this guy (>>64601415) does with Whedon?

Eventually. I've got the Invisibles and Animal Man omnibuses, and most of his Batman run. I got into his stuff a few months ago and basically went full Morrisonfag

Before I had bought it, I had previously read the first 16 issues. But man that book is good. More complicated than anything else I've ever read, and much more of a trip. Despite that, it is not incomprehensible, as a lot of people say (unless you're not willing to reflect on it). I couldn't bring myself to read any other comics for 2 months, because it was such a high standard for me. It's about everything, and the attention to detail is staggering.

Having it all in one volume also helps to better understand the time-travel related bits.

>Flex Mentallo DX HC (fucking coloring sucks but the issues ond original trade are so fucking expensive)
>Filth trade
>Seven Soldiers HC's
>ASS trades (got the two ones b/c got them as they came out instead of waiting for the single edition, on the bright side I have that Waid intro calling ASS the best Superman story he ever read because of this)
>Final Crisis trade
>DC One Million trade
>52 trades
>JLA DX HC's
I'd say more than half my collection is just Moore, Morrison, and Dave Sim (I bought Judenhass as well as Cerebus).

he seems to have had a fairly normal childhood for someone who later went on to write things like paying for it and ed the happy clown

speaking of which, if you're into REALLY weird comics, check out ed the happy clown
>>

does the omni have anything? i thought about getting it but decided on buying the cheaper books when i could instead of one big purchase
>>

How is Solo, overall?
Kinda interested just from Paul Pope
>>
>>64630807
Absolutely terrific, but it's probably far cheaper for you just to buy the individual issues. My favorites were Paul Pope, Richard Corben, Teddy Kristiansen, Damian Scott, Sergio Aragones, and Brendan McCarthy.
But I suppose it must be worth the buy if half the volume can be described as favorite.
>>
>>64630807
A lot of good issues in that book. I never read it, but I got it as partial payment for a commission and don't regret it at all. Some really great pieces throughout the book. Some great art, too.

Wish DC would revive the idea seeing how many people seem to have it and give some artists that outlet again. Some real interesting work came from it.

Yes it includes Franken-Castle, so funny you mention that as I pulled that omnibus off the shelf earlier today just to read that! Fell asleep super early due to drinking too much so now I'm about to start reading some more invincible on my tablet! Man I'm loving invincible.

Nice to see someone else with love for Tomb of Dracula.. man it's great fucking stuff... Are the first 2 omnis in color? I don't think I could ever get rid of the first three trades as they are in color. Black and white is so nice as well though...
>>
>>64628595
I own both. Have since sold bother simply becuase I'd rather make room for something else (I think I'm going to end up getting Invincible hardcovers...)

They are both extremely good but I'd give the edge to conan..

So many things I want to buy right now it's crazy
Annihilation omnibus
Guardians of the galaxy complete collection
manhattan projects vol 4
Doom Patrol Omnibus
Invincible compendiums or hardcovers

Must. Fight. Urge.
>>
>>64634085
Only one of those things is worth owning and then it isn't in the format listed becuase Omnibuses are not worth the effort to read them comfortably.
>>
>>64634113
There's always some guy in these threads saying how omnibuses are difficult to read, but I've never had a problem with them
>>
>>64634113
They are less comfortable to read but sometimes it's the easiest way to collect or cheapest way. A lot of times for omnibuses I will read them at my desk sitting in a chair and let the omnibus sit on the desk in front of me. This way comfortability isn't an issue.

I read comics on my tablet in my family room in a recliner. I read comics in my office in my recliner with the lights on.

Depending on what I'm reading, depends on where I read it. Kind of weird but some things are more comfortably read in certain conditions/places.
