The Peter that was killed by the Goblin was actually Scorpion. Peter disappeared after things went boom at Sanctum Sanctorum fighting Dormamu during Ultimatum. The real Peter has been stuck between dimensions all this time. This is where we got in the post Ultimatum Requiem, everyone thought spidey was dead. Flash forward to Ultimate Comics, he's there.

Fury couldn't let Peter stay dead, not when he had a fully functional clone on hand. Surgically removed the cybernetics and tail, spit his fused fingers, and had Jean Grey make him believe he was the original because why not.

After Galactus happened, and the various space time rifts, Peter found his way home.

That is my theory. Just convoluted enough and full of carefully noticed setup to work.

I think they've just realized that absurd potential a Spidermen book has. Seriously, people were disappointed by Spidermen because it was over too quickly, and there was no time for the plot to breathe; this might be a good one.

I'll admit that I've always been slightly disappointed by the Ultimate universe, because it didn't live up to the potential. USM is good, but it would've be a lot more interesting if they threw in some twists on the formula. Like, organic web-shooters for Spidey, choosing Gwen over Mary Jane, being loved by everyone instead of feared and despised...That kind of thing.

They did deliver on some stuff - Like Ock being dead for good, and the aforementioned 'People love Spidey!' - but there's a lot of retreads. Everything to do with Ultimate X-Men, for instance. The constant backsliding on the Ultimate Fantastic Four, and the fact that Sue is now the biggest bitch of all time.

Oh, and introducing Matt Murdock as Daredevil...To kill him off as an aside. Then ANOTHER yellow-suited Daredevil...And killing him, too, in a terrible Ultimates story arc about vampires. That was dire.

There's really nothing Spider-like about Spidey's costume without the web and spider emblems.
So basically a Spider-mask on a typical Cap uniform.

I really tried to like Miles, back when he started, I really did. At firs he seemed like a cool kid and his interactions with Ganke and Jessica were fun to read and somewhat interesting, but he's become just so fucking boring and predictable.

In two pages with Peter I've had more fun than the last entire year worth of Ultimate Spider-man with miles. Bringing Peter back, briefly or permanently, just shows how weak Miles is as a character. The comparison is just making me want for everything to be what it was before Peter died, and let Miles become his own thing rather than Spider-Man, and I'm pretty sure we all will be gifted with another "death" of Peter Parker, so this boring ass spider-man can keep using his venom-blast on everything.

Yeah, it's Bendis's best work, hands down. Even when his Avengers was in the shitter, USM was consistently good. I haven't been as fond of the Miles Morales era (the past ~30 issues), but it's still alright.

Of the first 160 issues (the Peter stuff), there's really only a few bum arcs in the 80s or 90s; it all pics up again with #95 when the Clone Saga arc starts.

Ultimate Marvel Team up is mostly good, too. And Ultimate Six is a fucking killer crossover with the Ultimates.

I like Miles in the first few issues. Not only did he have unique powers, but he was a reluctant hero, not having Pete's sense of responsibility. Also, the dynamic he had with his parents made him seem like his own character with his own struggles.

In my opinion, he started going downhill as a character right before the USM hiatus. He was reluctant to resume being Spider Man after his mother died, but he got brow-beat into it, so his internal struggles over the responsibility of being Spider Man got played out too soon. Removing his father from the equation removed the dynamic he had with his family, and not learning from Pete's mistakes despite numerous characters telling him to do so (i.e., telling his qt3.14 gf he's Spider Man and scaring her off) removed the last thing distinguishing him from Pete.

tl;dr Careless writing and poor decisions turned a character into an SJW version of Peter.
