Hm... I might translate the "yo" of the first panel as "you know!" Something like "It's not for your sake, you know." That gives it more of the flippant feeling, I think? My understanding of the sentence-ending shi is that it means there's more to be said that's not being said, so maybe you could add ellipsis at the end?

Why do you like Akechi? For me, he's kinda just fetish fuel for the darker things that I sometimes enjoy indulging in.I like a crazy guy once in a while.
But imagining him as a boyfriend, seeing him in a proper relationship is absolutely baffling.

Rading his profile about how pretty much everything he does is to get people to like him and accept him--that made my heart hurt. I wish Atlus had done more with him though--as it stands right now, he has quite a bit of wasted potential. A true redemption arc for him would have been really interesting.

I also tend to gravitate towards characters who have been abused or are potentially mentally ill, and Akechi fits both of those qualities.

I think he would be easy to date on the surface level, but he'd probably resist anyone who tried to get closer to him than his "detective prince" personality.

If you're into the whole tragic backstory thing, the entire male cast has got you covered, and with far better characters IMO. Spoilers ahead for those who haven't beat the game or done these Social Links.

Yusuke being betrayed by his father figure, learning that he not only stole his dead mothers work to claim fame for himself but he pretty much killed her to do so. Because of his connections to Madarame and his overall eccentricities, he doesn't even have friends at his own school.

Ryuji who actually was a survivor of domestic abuse, wanted to use his athletic abilities to turn his life around for himself and his mom only to be crippled and have that chance stolen by a jealous teacher because he had the guts to fight back against his newest abuser. Now not only does the whole school now know his dad used to beat him, but everyone hates him because him standing up for himself resulted in the disbandment of the track team.

Joker, the quiet kid whose decision to act as a white knight for a soon-to-be rape victim resulted in him being landed with criminal assault charges and destroyed his life, reputation and future.

Mishima, who suffered physical abuse under Kamoshida and unknowing led one of his friends to be raped.

Personally, I'm a fan of characters who try to overcome their shitty situations, not those who dwell on it for years and try enact ridiculously complicated, cartoonish revenge plots against someone they barely know. Imagine if Futaba's story was about getting revenge on her unknown father for not staying with her mother. That's Goro's plan in a nutshell.

Goro's backstory is a lot more tragic than theirs for one thing. Maybe other people don't care but I do.

That's ok anon. We can all have different tastes. I do think those kinds of people are better in real life. But they're not as appealing to me in fiction.

I've decided to compile some comments about why Goro smiles after shooting Joker

>Yes the anime scenes are kind of crappy and don't flow with the game all the time because they were clearly done by a different studio in poor contact with Atlus JP. There's none of the visable distortions in the metaverse is a big one (and in Shido's case the sorrounding area even looks totally different) but maybe they should have gotten their act together. Then we wouldn't have all these people thinking Goro's just a psycho who gets his joillies from killing people and would be chainsawing people on the street even if he didn't get a Persona.

I like all of those characters, especially Mishima, and I wish he had become one of the party members like he was set up to be. You can like all of the main characters in p5 and still like the one problematic one, you know.

I'm one of the anons you responded to, and I don't want to change him at all in the way you mean. I think he was poorly written by Atlus, but he has potential to be a really good, interesting character.

Lastly, like the other anons mentioned, it's all about preferences. You seem like one of those anons who thinks we should only like nonproblematic characters, which is only going to lead you down a rabbithole. I can find problematic aspects of pretty much every character you mentioned.

I feel like a number of characters can be paired up without it seeming too forced. For boys, it's hard to pick. Akira/ any of the boys. But if the main character could date the boys, I would probably go for Yusuke first. Yusuke/Ryuji has been on my radar because of some decent fics on AO3. I only pair Goro with Akira for dark fetish fuel that is not my normal go-to. I like Mishima, but it's hard to pair him with anyone but Akira?

I guess MC/Aigis is the only one that resonated with me somehow. And of course Akihiro/Shinji, I could see them experiment with each other growing up.
