Does anyone know if Anno's JUNE interviews were ever fully translated/scanned?

I see there is a second interview that was summarized by one of the users there, but never fully translated.

In it there's apparently illustrations of the drafts by Nobita Nobi who is both a good friend of Anno and mangaka who did Evangelion doujinshi that Anno read and praised, like this one: >>3086933

I think the second part was only partially translated or paraphrased but not entirely translated. It's what I'm seeing at a quick search at least. Actually I don't remember ever reading it, just the few typical excerpts people usually talk about during discussions like the 'masturbatory show' part.

The first part of the interview would need a check-up too in some parts in my opinion. They're slightly different between versions, and at some points they sound even contradictory between each other. I remember some threads ago we already talked about that and there was a re-translation of one of those parts because of it.

I think it is because it's very Kaworu-like to not want to make Shinji worry or feel bad even more. They could have decided to change it for a reason like that so Kaworu keeps his feelings to himself.

I'd be interested in seeing it, I still think it's fascinating that Anno would do an interview with that chick who did doujinshi porn of Kaworu and Shinji. He was pretty in tune with the fanbase back then.

I believe the only two translations we have are one translated from a Chinese translation in 2009 and another from the Japanese in 2013.
If the full scans ever turn up I'd like to do my own translation of it so we can compare and contrast.

Qworu is pretty humanized in comparison to Animeworu.

Animeworu would never do things like shaking/freaking out and crying, but I can easily see Qworu doing those things because they erased and suppressed a lot of his alien nature in Q.
Some people may like that but I personally don't.

I find it strange you think that. They gave him more emotional depth, but that doesn't make him less alien. His long stares, his overly affectionate expressions when Shinji barely knows him, especially his traipsing around in the wastes and winds without any sort of care... Offering his hand to Shinji on the steps and then calmly walking forward struck me as quite alien. There was him watching Shinji fall from orbit. "The promised time has come" and a profound piano key when nobody was there to speak or listen. Staring at the ruined faucet down in Kaji's watermelon patch even felt alien. Qworu did lots of alien things and many of them felt like things Animeworu did.
Qworu is only humanized because we see more of him and his spectrum of emotions. Aliens and Angels have emotions too, we see that from the original series.

In the Manga, sure, but not in the Anime.

Animeworu being alien and otherwordly is why I love him so much. He's one of the rare cases in Anime where a non-human actually acts non-human.

You're right, it's been a while since I've seen Q so my memory is quite rusty. He still is very alien-like.
I think the way he carries himself, and the atmosphere of the character is still fairly different from Animeworu however, even Anno and Ishida attested to that.
That's why even among the fanbase they are drawn as two different characters.

Everything he does and says in the episode are things only someone of his nature would do.
He never considers himself human nor pretends to act like one.

With Animeworu, he's all about seeing the Lilin as a species/lifeform and the overall picture.
With Qworu, he's all about Shinji. He doesn't show any interest in humanity in general.

That's why they give off different images in my mind, Qworu is more human-like in the end.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I personally am not into it. It's also why I'm not too fond of Karl either. Both are too humanized for my tastes.

kek. Karl is so inhuman that Kensuke outright callls him as much when he sees him for the first time.
They're all very different characters, but each are set far apart from the human cast we're introduced to. "Continuously mellow and pleasant" isn't the only thing that equals inhuman.

Not exactly. Kaworu was never kept in the dark about his nature and seems pretty confident in what he says.

We don't know anything about his upbringing besides him going from Adam -> Kaworu at Second Impact, but to be able to speak on the human condition so eloquently to Shinji he at least has experience observing them, if not directly interacting with them.
He also shows no hesitance as showing emotion so I think "emotionally deprived" is not the right choice of words.
It was already implied in the episode, but NGE2 confirmed it, he's affection starved just like Shinji and gets close to him for similarly reasons as Shinji did. But I don't think any of this takes away from his alien / otherworldliness.

At least, in my opinion. I can't put it into words well but that is just my impression.

Look, it's fine to prefer Animeworu, even expected, since he's so timeless. But I don't think you're accepting any of the three Kaworus for what they are. It is, but it's been so overdone in not just Anime, but Sci-fi in general I got tired of it.
Like literally every single alien character has that plight, to the point where I've gotten annoyed with it. It's always about them trying to understand humanity and become more human, where Kaworu not doing any of those things was like a breath of fresh air to me.

I still think Karl is a decent character, and not that there's anything wrong with him having that but I just can't get attached to him for that reason.

I can't really explain it, but it's just my impression, the atmosphere of Qworu and Karl is more humanized than Animeworu in my opinion.
I completely agree with you that my thoughts on them are not objective. But absorbing and getting attached to a character inevitably leads to bias and subjectivity.

Yeah, I suppose Nova would have been fine for most of the series until the very end. That's a shame. The only other thing I can think to recommend is Tsuritama, since the alien learns about friendship but stays his alien self all the way through. His alien nature is very different from what you've called alien, though, so I'm not sure.

It seems like nowadays alien characters qualify as slightly autistic humans, they don't have any sort of existentialist shit going on like Kaworu did.

Even though a lot of them, Nova and Alcor for instance, are based off of Kaworu himself.

Karl gives off a more human impression because he really just acts like an angry and attention-starved boy most of his time with Shinji.

Although Qworu is still very alien-like, all he ever thinks about or talks about is Shinji so that nature just becomes a superficial thing.

Manga Kaworu is called Karl because he's so autistic and different, people then started calling Manga Shinji Shaun to reflect this.

Rebuild Kaworu is sometimes called Qworu to differentiate from the other two because the fanbase sees them as three different characters.

I didn't put it correctly, sorry. Not to connect with Eva but rather obey the commands. So NERV will keep them at whatever state of mind is required to obey. For Shinji is being depressed and melancholic. For Asuka is feeling better that everyone, important, but that still exploits her childhood trauma and her relationship with her parents.

So rather than helping them overcome their traumas, NERV would rather keep it the way it is, to exploit their fears/desires and make them obey.

It's not explicitly stated anywhere, but I think that's the logical reason behind them being like that.
